Issue 16 15 th January 2018 Dear Parents/Carers Last week Dr Guscott, Mrs Livesey and Miss Trainor led very successful study sessions for all Year 9 students, with the focus being on revision techniques, and a particular emphasis on Mind-Maps. It would be great if parents and carers could talk to their children about this, and help us to establish a successful culture of on-going revision by encouraging it at home. As mentioned last week, Year 11 students received their December examination results and termly data during assembly on Friday, and over the course of this week Year 11 students will be seen by a member of the Senior Leadership Team, either individually or in groups. I would encourage you to discuss these results with your child - a paper copy has been posted home, along with a more detailed plan of the forthcoming term. Reports that students receive may be asked for by colleges for interviews, so please do ensure that they are close to hand. I also wrote to Year 11 parents last week to assure them that we are working together in partnership to ensure the very best results for our students in the Summer GCSEs, and at times the messages we give have to be challenging but supportive, and all actions taken are in the best interests of all our students. I also mentioned forthcoming parents evenings in last week s newsletter there is a list of all important dates for this term in this newsletter. I would, however, like to bring to your attention the information evening for the Berlin Trip, this evening at 6pm, and the Year 10 Work Experience Information Evening on Thursday at 6.30pm (students in full uniform), Also, another reminder that the next PTA meeting is this evening at 7.00pm in the staff room. Thank you for your continued support. If you wish to discuss any aspect of life here at St James, please do not hesitate to contact me at headteacher@st-jamescatholic.stockport.sch.uk Tim Beesley, Headteacher PRAYER Barrier-breaking God, You embrace all cultures and lands, But keep a special place in your heart For the stranger, the widow and the orphan. Grant us the gift of your Spirit That we may become as You are, Welcoming all as brothers and sisters, Your cherished children, Citizens together in Christ s kingdom of justice and peace. Amen YEAR 10 WORK EXPERIENCE INFORMATION EVENING FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS 6:30PM ON THURSDAY 18 TH JANUARY IN THE ASSEMBLY HALL It is very important that students attend with a parent/carer as information will be given out about the work experience week in July (Students must wear full school uniform) Mrs Grainger - Work Related Learning Coordinator ADVANCE INFORMATION KEY DATES FOR THIS TERM Thursday 18 th January Wednesday 24 th January Thursday 1 st February Tuesday 13 th February Friday 16 th February Monday 19 th February Thursday 1 st March Thursday 8 th March Thursday 22 nd March Year 10 Work Experience information evening 6:30pm (students to wear full school uniform) Pre Ski trip meeting 7pm Year 11 Parents Evening 43-7pm Year 9 vaccinations (during school day) School closes for half term at 3pm Year 11 Berlin trip departs Year 9 parents evening 4-7pm Year 7 parents meeting 4-7pm Year 11 Mass of Celebration 7pm

SHREWSBURY YOUTH MISSION TEAM SUNDAY REFLECTION So often we can see Jesus as someone separate from our lives, that He cares about other people, their problems and their dreams. However today s reading reminds me that Jesus cares personally about my life; He cares about my problems and concerns, my hopes, dreams and desires. He is interested in what I am looking for in life and invites us to see who He really is. In the Gospel we hear Jesus ask His disciples, what do you seek? When they respond He invites His disciples to come and see where He dwells, His disciples realise that Jesus truly is the Messiah. Just like Simon Peter, this invitation can lead to something far greater than we had ever dreamed of, if only we respond with an open heart. CONFIRMATION IN WYTHENSHAWE Students in Year 8 and above who are in the Wythenshawe Catholic Parishes are invited to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this year. There is a meeting at Sacred Heart and St Peter s Church, Baguley on Wednesday 17 th January at 6.15pm for young people and their parents/carers. This meeting will look at what is involved in the programme, and there will be application forms as well. If you have any questions about this, or are unsure if this includes you, please contact Fr Michael Coughlin on 0161 998 5319 or frmichaelcoughlan@hotmail.co.uk. He will be able to talk you through whether your parish is one included in this programme. Mrs Bennett Lay Chaplain YEAR 9 RETREATS Don t forget, Year 9 students have retreat days coming up.
