Term 1 Week 12 February 8th 2018 February Tuesday 13th Shrove Tuesday Wednesday 14th Ash Wednesday Mass 10am Years 3-6 Friday 16th Hot dog lunch place order via St Paul s online store https://spcoburg.cdfpay.org.au by TUESDAY 9.00PM Tuesday 20th Prep BBQ & Information evening 6.00pm Dear Parents and Friends of St Paul s, This week we held our first Mass to celebrate the start of the school year and to bless our students, staff and School/House Captains. Thank you to Fr. Ray for leading us in a very reverent Mass, and the teachers and I were very proud of how well the children responded and how beautifully behaved they were. In particular, I was very impressed with our new Preps who have only been at school for 6 days! Well done!! Repairs Prep TE is finally back in their classroom! The drying and steam cleaning of the carpet is complete, but we will continue to monitor the situation over the next week to ensure that the restoration has been done to our satisfaction. Congratulations to Prep TE for their resilience over the last week. The roof plumbers will begin work on the 15 th Feb and we expect the work to continue for 1 2 weeks. There will be minimal disruption to the school. As soon as the roof has been restored, the new carpets and cabinets will be installed in the upstairs senior room. We hope that this work will be completed by the second week of March. The air conditioning work to be undertaken in the ART/LOTE room and the Library will commence shortly, and will take approximately 10 days to complete. Specialist Programs/General details- these programs will begin next Monday. Feb 12 th. At the end of the newsletter you will find an information sheet, outlining general procedures and specialist times for all classes. Please keep this as a reminder of when your child/ren need to wear their sport uniform. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am very happy to announce that Mrs. Tasker (formerly Miss Gleeson) and her husband Paul are expecting their first child in July. On behalf of the St. Paul s school community we congratulate them and wish them the very best. Mrs. Tasker is one of our Yr. 5/6 teachers, our Religious Education Leader and Senior Literacy Leader. Prep 2018 BBQ & Information Night A letter was sent home to our new Prep families, inviting them to our annual Prep Barbecue and Information Evening. This BBQ/meeting will be held on the 20 th February, beginning at 5.30pm. Although this is not a compulsory meeting, particularly for parents who have heard this information before and are well aware of the routines of the school, it is nonetheless a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents and their children. We hope that many of you are able to attend. PREP 2019 On Tuesday February 27 th, we will be hosting an information evening for anyone with a child beginning school next year, 2019. If you know of anyone (family or friends) in this position please pass on this information - see flyer in this newsletter. Ash Wednesday Next Wednesday we begin the Season of Lent, Ash Wednesday. Lent is when we prepare for the most important events of our Faith lives, Holy Week and the Resurrection of Our Lord on Easter Sunday. The children from Years 3 6 will receive the ashes at the 10am mass of the day, while the Year 1 & 2 children will receive them back at school, after the mass. All are welcome to attend. New Principal In last weekend s Parish bulletin, Father Raymond informed the Parish of the members of the selection panel. It consists of: Craig Carlin (Principal consultant of Catholic Education), Loretta Meilak (St. Paul s School Treasurer of Fundraising), Angela Greig (Community Support Team Leader Darebin Council) and Damian Howard (Principal from this zone).

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: 1. With the beginning of the school year I would remind you that all parents/carers are required to go to the office/reception as the first point of contact. At no time is a parent/carer permitted to go straight to a classroom or any other part of the school. This is part of our Child Safety protocol and applies to anyone entering the school. If you wish to speak to your child s teacher please arrange this through the correct channel, i.e. the office. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. 2. Absenteeism - It is now a REQUIREMENT that the office or classroom teacher is notified if a student is going to be absent from school. There are several ways this can be done via a sibling, written note, email, School APP, phone call. The school is now required, by law, to contact parents if a student has not arrived at school and the school has not been notified. 3. PARKING: a reminder to all parents using the drop-off parking bays- cars are NOT to be left unattended for any reason. This is an OH&S requirement. Also, a request that bays designated for disabled drivers be left free for those that need them. Please remember that the teachers who are on after school supervision in the car park have the right to direct drivers who are not following the rules. Their duty of care to pedestrians comes well before cars. Looking forward to some nice weather over the next few days! Enjoy! Have a wonderful weekend. Warmest regards, Pat ST PAUL S COFFEE CLUB! We understand the weather does not always permit parents/grandparents to wait for students outside in the playground, however the corridor is not the ideal place to wait for your child. The children are still working in the classrooms and tend to become distracted by people waiting in the corridor. Also, for privacy reasons, the area at the office is not an appropriate waiting area, and needs to be left free for office appointments only. SO..we have established the SAINT PAUL S COFFEE CLUB starting Monday 12 February. The coffee club will be open daily from 3 pm onwards and will be located in the staffroom. All tea /coffee/ milk will be provided, and you are more than welcome to bring your pre-schooler/toddler/baby to the coffee club. Mrs Cobie is in the process of organising some informative reading materials which you are welcome to browse through, and I have arranged for some more leisurely reading materials to also be available. You can access the coffee club via the door on the playground look for the Welcome sign on the external staffroom door (via the grass area). Ms. Donna
