TRUMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT PLAN 2017/2018 District Improvement Plan Goal: Academic Excellence All students will perform at or above grade level and achievement/opportunity gaps among all student groups will be eliminated. Mathematics Improvement Plan Goals for Truman Middle School: We will use i-ready fall screener results for our baseline data. (Student numbers are based on actual number of students tested fall of 2017) 6 th grade 36% (79) students to 56% (144) students 7 th grade 31% (61) students to 51% (101) students 8 th grade 29% (69) students to 49% (119) students Mathematics Improvement Plan Goals for Truman Middle School: We will increase the percent of students at or above standards by an average of 20% per grade level as measured by i-ready screener after the Spring administration of the assessment. Strategies: Align instructional strategies of math to meet the rigor of DOK levels 3 & 4. Use i-ready mastery assessments bi-monthly in order to monitor students learning Preview i-ready mastery assessments for instructional planning Provide additional during advisory for teacher to analyze student assessment data Use Engaged New York primary curriculum to plan instructional strategies Co-plan with a focus on differentiated instruction in order to challenge advance learners Co-plan with a focus on differentiated instruction in order to enhance the instruction for our challenging learners Effectively use the co-teach model to increase academic achievement for students with IEPs. Partnership Goals for Truman Middle School: We will increase our PTSA membership by 50% for parents and guardians. We will also increase the number of staff members signing up for PTSA to 100%. Partnership Goals for Truman Middle School: By June of 2018, we will establish a partnership with the YMCA to bring a full time on site coordinator and community partner liaison to create a Truman MS YMCA partnership program. Partnership Goals for Truman Middle School: We will increase our extra-curricular participation rates by reducing the number of students who are not participating in any club or sport by 50%. We will also increase the number of students participating in 1 or more sports or clubs by 10%. No Suspensions and Expulsions Goals for Truman Middle School: By June of 2018, we will reduce 6 th and 8 th grade suspensions and expulsions by 10% in each grade level. No Suspension and Expulsions Goal for Truman Middle School: During the 2017/2016 school year we had 202 major discipline incidents that lead to a suspension or emergency expulsion. By June of 2018 we will reduce our major discipline incidents by 50%. District Improvement Plan Goal Report Cards: The percentage of students earning a C or better in English Language Arts Climate Survey Goals for Truman Middle School: By June of 2018, we will increase the number of 8 th graders earning a C or better in English Language Arts from 84.8% to 90%. Climate Survey Goal for Truman Middle School: By June of 2018, we will increase the number of 8 th graders earning a C or better in English Language Arts from 84.8% to 90% and or maintain an average above Tacoma Public Schools 81%. Strategies: 8 th grade advisory students look up and monitor grades. 8 th grade advisory teachers work with 8 th grade students to monitor grades. Extended learning opportunities with ELA teaching staff Social studies and science provides standards support in informational text to students. 8 th grade promotional policies reflect a common standard with athletics.
