Sunday March 26th from 2.30pm 6.30pm. It is sure to be an afternoon of fun and excitement and great family activities. Activities will include a range of obstacles including commando nets, tunnels, wall climbs and tyre run. Enjoy the food, games, doughnuts and slushies, coffee cart and happy hour. Choc- o- Block is another returning favourite. Save the date in your diaries now! Working Bee Many hands make light work! Thank you to all those families AND students who helped out at our twilight working bee after school last Thursday night. A huge amount was achieved in a small amount of time. The school looks fantastic. Thank you to everyone for your contribution and community spirit. Level 1/2 Dance There is lots of singing and dancing happening in the Level 1 and 2 areas at the moment. Lots of fun and undiscovered talent! All students are undertaking a number of dance workshops being conducted by STOMP Dance company and then some follow up practice in the classrooms. We look forward to watching the Level 1 & 2 students at a workshop on Thursday, March 30 th at 2.00pm. (The last week of Term) Cultural Diversity Week To celebrate some of the foods and traditions of our Asian communities a special lunch has been arranged for Tuesday, March 21 st. This lunch will need to be preordered by Friday, March 17 th. On Friday, March 24 th we will be celebrating with a special Asian performance. On this day we ask students to dress in red and contribute a gold coin donation. Thanks to our Parents Association for organising this significant event. Chess Tournament Congratulations to the members of the Deepdene Chess team who competed in the ChessKids tournament at Kerrimuir Primary School last Thursday. Well done to Minh, Andrew, Justin, John, Lachlan, Joshua, Sophie and Shivansh. Planning Week Next week teachers will be involved in planning programs and undertaking professional development activities in preparation for Term 2 programs. The timetable during planning week each Term enables teachers from each level to be released from their teaching duties for a full day to work collegially with other team members. The specialist program for the week is re-timetabled to allow for this release and this then also allows our specialist teaching staff a day to plan together. Teachers meet as a level. For example, our Year 5 & 6 teaching team meet together to plan the content of the Curriculum and share ideas about how it may be delivered and assessed. Following this, each team may reflect on their practice and consider successes and which activities perhaps didn t meet the expected outcomes. Teaching practices are regularly reflected upon and reviewed during team planning meetings. This reflection is used to improve classroom teaching practices and engage children. It is this strong sense of team; detailed and thorough program planning; and consistency across the school that ensures the high quality of teaching and learning which is occurring in Prep - Year 6. As usual our teachers will be meticulously prepared for Term 2! Stephen Rees Principal 1
