Classes will finish at 12:25 pm on this date. We expect students to have all required textbooks by Wednesday September 6. Photos & Wellness Picture Days All students in Grades 7 through 12 will have their school picture taken Wednesday September 13. Immunizations The in-school Hepatitis B / Meningitis C program for the grade 7 students and the HPV Immunization for the grade 8 girls was cancelled in the fall of 2012. Due to provincial cutbacks, the Toronto Public Health will no longer visit small private schools. Grade 12 Grads November 23 and 24 Grade 8 Grads February 6 Students who plan to graduate from grade 12 this year will also have their grad photos taken on Thursday November 23 and Friday November 24. Graduates are to book times for their photo sessions in the library with Shirley Little. There is a sitting fee of approximately $30 for ten poses. Graduates are to wear a white shirt with a collar on that day, and male students must bring a tie. The grade 8s will have their graduation pictures taken on Tuesday February 6. For the grade 8 grads there is a sitting fee of approximately $25 for four poses. Grade 7 Hepatitis B/ Meningitis C Grade 8 HPV Immunization Program (Girls) Students will be required to visit local clinics to receive their immunization shots. Attendance Please remember that if your child is going to be late or absent from school due to sickness or an appointment, we ask that you call the attendance office in the morning to let us know. 416-285-0870 TTC Identification If you are between 13 and 15 years old, you do not need identification to travel. If you are between 16 and 19 years old you will need to carry your high school photo ID (distributed at the end of September after picture day) or Driver s License or the Ontario Photo Card. 2

BACK TO SCHOOL ISSUE PREDATOR PRESS Guidance Reminders Grade 12 Students University Candidates The 2016 Ontario Universities Fair is being held at the Metro Toronto Convention Center on September 22, 23, and 24 between the hours of 10 am to 5 pm. Please see www.ouf.ca for more information. This is a great opportunity for students and parents to meet representatives from Ontario s 21 universities. Students applying to university or college this year must attend our Group Information sessions. Grade 12 students whose last name begins with the letter A to I will have their session Monday September 18, students whose last name begins with J to V will have their session Tuesday September 19, and students whose last name begins with W to Z will have their session on Wednesday September 20. The sessions will take place after school at 3:45 pm in Room 19. Many representatives from the Ontario and Out-of-Province Universities will be visiting our school throughout the fall. Students will be provided with a list of the visiting schools and specific dates and times. SATs and Subject Tests For students interested in writing the SATs this fall, please note that the first test is being offered on Saturday October 7. To write on this test date you must have registered by September 8. Students are to register online at www.collegeboard.com using our school code 826118. The school does not register students for the SATs. This website also offers free practice tests. Students in Grade 11 who are considering going to the United States for their postsecondary education should consider writing one of the tests this year and one early in their Grade 12 year. It is best to write subject tests (if required) in your Grade 12 year. Grade 10 Literacy Test All students who entered Grade 9 in September 2016, and the Grade 11 and 12 students who have not written or been successful with the test, will write on Tuesday April 10, 2018. Testing Dates PSATs Grade 10 and 11 students interested in writing the PSATs on Wednesday October 11 please reserve your test with Sue Dhillon in Guidance by mid-september. SATs and Subject Test Dates Testing dates for are: October 7 December 2 March 10 May 5 June 2 Fall Academic Contests Our students will have the opportunity to compete in various Academic Contests this fall, including: Sun Life Financial Open Math Contest November 2 Beaver Computing Challenge Week of November 12 Canadian Senior and Intermediate Waterloo Math Contests November 22 3

Fall Sports Golf (U20) Athletics Our Physical Education department has a number of activities planned for the upcoming year. Many sports are offered for both male and female students. In addition, there will be opportunities for students to participate in whitewater rafting, indoor rock climbing, skiing and snowboarding. Co-ed Cross Country Running (Grade 7/8 and U20) Co-ed Flag Football Co-ed Ultimate Frisbee (Grade 7/8 and U20) Co-ed Indoor Soccer (Grade 7/8) 4 Boys Volleyball (Grades 7/8 and U20) Girls Basketball (U20) Boys Basketball (U20) Hockey (U20) Indoor Soccer (U20) Team Coaches This year our coaches will be Mark Kucharski, Dominick DeVastey, Joanna Johnson, Eddie Cheung, Jessica Oliveira, Adam Whitehead, Mackenzie Cleveland, Joseph Boyd and Vlad Zeman. They are eager to get the season underway! Team Signups Students interested in participating in our athletic activities and wishing to try out for our sports teams should speak with the coordinator, Mark Kucharski, during the first week of school.

The Tartan Tradition Beginning in September, the nine Metro Prep House Families will assemble and begin competing for championship status, continuing our tartan tradition! All students are placed on a house team and encouraged to get involved in as many after-school activities as they can. Points are awarded based on student participation and are averaged out with their academic scores to create an overall house team score. In June, the House with the highest team average wins the coveted Championship Trophy, individual medals, and most importantly, the distinguished honour of being House Champion.
