Wildcat Nation, Here s the Lawrence North athletics weekly update for the week of April 9, 2018. Lawrence North Athletics Community Partner of the Week: Rita s Italian Ice of Fishers Rita s Italian Ice of Fishers is now open for the 2018 season! Rita s is located at 8910 East 96 th street, just north of the intersection of 96 th and Sargent Road. Garrett Burhenn, Baseball and Taylor Erschen, Softball Senior Garrett Burhenn and sophomore Taylor Erschen are this week s LN student-athletes of the week. Burhenn has been on fire, leading the Cats to a 2-1 record to start the season. He is 2-0 on the mound with 22 strikeouts and an ERA of only 0.636 in 11 innings of work. He also leads the team in hits (6), RBI (5), and batting average (.600). Erschen helped LN to a 9-1 win over Speedway in the opener, picking up the pitching victory with 6 Ks and going 3-4 at the plate with 2 HR s and 4 RBI. As honor roll students, Garrett and Taylor get it done in the classroom as well. Great job, Wildcats!

Baseball: The Wildcats (2-1, 1-1) started off the season going 2-1 las week, beating Franklin Central in the home opener and then splitting games with MIC rival North Central. Garrett Burhenn picked up two pitching victories and leads the team in hitting, batting.600 over the first three games. Maalik Houston (.545) and Riley Hargis (.500) have also been hitting the ball well early in the season. The Cats play two MIC games this week against Warren Central; Tuesday at home and then Wednesday at WC before finishing the week at Perry Meridian for a double header on Saturday. Boys Golf: The golfers have been stuck inside hitting balls in the upstairs gym, but are scratching to get outside. The team is scheduled to play three matches this week; Warren Central on Tuesday, Perry Meridian on Wednesday, and then Heritage Christian on Thursday. Softball: The Wildcats (1-0, 0-0) beat Speedway 9-1 to start the season. Taylor Erschen got the pitching victory, registering 6 strikeouts. The Cats were dominating at the plate, hitting 5 home runs. Hitting bombs for LN were Taylor Erschen (2), Anna Florczak, Cierra Taylor, and Katie Demas. The team will have a busy week. The Wildcats will play at home on Tuesday and Wednesday against Warren Central and Perry Meridian, and then travel to North Central on Friday before finishing the week at Noblesville on Saturday. Girls Tennis: The netters have also been limited due to the weather, but will try to get started this week with matches scheduled at Noblesville on Wednesday, at North Central on Thursday, and at Lawrence Central on Friday. Track & Field: The girls track and field team participated in a three way meet last week, going 1-1. The Cats lost to Bishop Chatard but beat MIC rival Warren Central. Both teams participated in the indoor state meet before spring break. Junior Nathan Stone won the indoor state championship in the pole vault, with a vault of 15 6! The boys team will start their outdoor season with a meet against Marion & Mt. Vernon at home on Wednesday, the distance boys/girls will be running the Flashes Distance Showcase on Friday night, while the girls team will be in action at the Royal Relays at HSE on Saturday.

Kevin Easley Named Indiana All-Star Kevin Easley became the 14 th Lawrence North boys basketball player to be named an Indiana All-Star. He went over 1,000 points for his career and averaged 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots during the 2017-18 season, leading the Wildcats to an 18-7 record. Additionally, Easley was named All-Marion County, All-MIC, IBCA Supreme 15 All-State and was on the Indy Star Super Team. This past weekend, he also participated in the 30 th annual North-South All-Star game. The Indiana All-Stars will play the Kentucky All-Stars on June 8 th at Bellarmine University in Louisville and then on June 9 th at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
