New graduation requirements for students entering high school 2018-2019 school year from VDOE Subject Math 1 English Science 1 Social Studies/History 1 Total 5 Verified Credits needed 2 (Reading and Writing) Verified credits are earned when a student passes a course and the corresponding Standards of Learning (SOL) test while in high school. Ex: Earth Science and the Earth Science SOL during 9 th grade year High school level courses taken during middle school cannot earn verified credits Verified Credits
Science Minimum Requirements: 3 Credits from 2 disciplines- Standard 4 Credits from 3 disciplines- Advanced 1 Verified (in high school) Chemistry is a prerequisite for college-level science classes. TCC Dual Enrollment courses are offered at TCC for both high school and college credit. There is a fee associated with Dual Enrollment courses. Students may expunge/purge middle school grade for Earth Science. See middle school counselor for requirements. Students who earn a B or higher in 11 th and 12 th grade, in addition to completing 50-hours of voluntary community service are eligible for the Excellence in Civics Education diploma seal.
