For your holiday season we have exciting news! Flute teacher, Vivian Bergova and piano instructor, Galina Talis are the new co-directors of the department. More detailed news follows in this newsletter. The academic school year is going great and the students have responded well to our new and improved math department changes. We ve added some fun challenging games and activities in the classrooms and the kids love 1 it! Something new also, is a math survey to be sent to parents to inquire how we may improve your child s future success in mathematics. With our new kiln in the Art Department, our future artists and sculptors have been making stunning creations! Always check the lobby for their display and consider private lessons for this exciting new medium. Remember with the upcoming holiday winter breaks it s an ideal time for your child to brush up on writing and math skills with individual tutoring and small workshop classes. Our new SAT program is beginning classes Saturday, November 19 th which is the start of a nine week tutoring session geared to the SAT test of January 28, 2017. Please call the school if you have a student for this great new program. We also will host an Open House at Learning Tree on Tuesday, November 22 nd at 7 pm where Mr. Chung will talk about the new SAT test, as well as, other standardized tests that high school students are asked to take nowadays. Also, to be covered is what colleges are looking for on an application. This function is free for all Learning Tree families! We will provide refreshments and look forward to your reservation and many questions! ANDREW CHUNG SAT Department Director MATH DEPARTMENT DAVID MENG, DIRECTOR DAVID MENG Math Department Director I am ecstatic to announce new Pre-algebra and Algebra classes for our Learning Tree scholars! These classes are designed to prepare students for higher level mathematics in high school and college. Along with the math foundations, technology will be a major focal point as we prepare for the integration of a math computer lab! Recently, we purchased math games and logic puzzles to help inspire our students. In addition to these items, we will be sending a math survey to inquire how we may better your child s learning experience while tracking and enriching your child s future success in mathematics. With Christmas and the New Year around the corner, we are excited to present national math competitions to help inspire and motivate our students to love mathematics while striving for excellence and logical reasoning in their lives. If your student has the math itch or just needs some individualized tutoring, our math teachers are readily available for private lessons. We can even design a curriculum to suit your child s need for a future career in mathematics. Please contact me for any questions!

ART DEPARTMENT TRISH NEUBRAND, DIRECTOR Our young artists are brimming with creativity and eager to understand art techniques and experience different ways to make art! Ceramics is new to the school and I believe there are few art mediums that rival the experience of working with clay. It develops motor skills, self-esteem, self expression and problem solving skills. Even children who feel they aren t good artists will succeed. A finished piece gives a student a feeling of self worth and pride. Our ceramics program is available to all students who take art classes. We have everything we need on site to make clay pieces including a wonderful new kiln to fire all work. If your child would like to create several different projects, private lessons are available on Wednesdays from: 2:30-3:30, 3:45-4:45, and 5:00-6:00 pm. Please stop by the art room anytime to see what we are up to!

Both of them played several higher ranked participants on their way to the finish and performed extremely well. Red-Riley Rapinan and Lian Lacson also played respectably in this event, advancing to the semifinals before finally being beaten. Rachel Xu In other events, the team received multiple 2 nd through 4 th places. Rachel Xu received another trophy after making it all the way to semifinals of U1650.
