Course Selection Information

Virtual Education Requirement Every student must take one virtual course at some point during their four years of high school. Students who take the virtual course ON campus, will work in a lab setting at school. Each student is allowed only ONE period in the on campus lab. Students who take the virtual course off campus MUST leave campus for the class period. They will have an online placeholder during the first or last period. Students must have their own daily transportation, or if waiting for a ride, must wait on the benches in front of school. Students cannot go to the Media Center or another teacher s classroom. This is for supervisory and safety purposes.

Advanced Placement Students must meet all expectations of the Advanced Placement (AP) classes, including completing summer work, completing all assignments, participating in classes, and seeking extra help if needed. A Parent Teacher Conference is required to set up a Success Plan to be implemented for a minimum of 2 weeks if a schedule change is requested. Students will not be allowed to drop an AP class until after the FIRST QUARTER, but no later than 1 week after 1 st quarter report cards are distributed.

Dual Enrollment (DE) As 9 th graders students can take DE courses on our campus only DE students must have and maintain a minimum unweighted cumulative 3.0+ GPA Must have qualifying ACT, SAT, or PERT scores PERT testing @ JWMHS will be held on Feb 20 th Cost is $5 and students must take all 3 sections (Reading, Writing, and Math) Must sign up with Mrs. Drury (SSMS Guidance) by Feb 13 th NO EXCEPTIONS!

Dual Enrollment (DE) DE students must maintain a minimum college cumulative 2.0 GPA Failure to maintain this GPA results in high school students being ineligible for DE courses for the remainder of their high school career. Courses we offer: College Algebra & Pre-Calculus with Trigonometry (10 th -12 th ) English Comp 1 & English Comp 2 (11 th -12 th ) American Federal Government (12 th )

Academies at JWMHS Academy for Medical Arts (AMA) Accepts qualified applicants at the end of 9 th grade year Must be a member of HOSA Passing scores on certification exams leads to Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA), Emergency Medical Responder (EMR), & Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Academies at JWMHS Business Technology Academy (BTA) Accepts applicants as 9th graders Can participate in FBLA Three programs: Gaming & Graphic Design Business & Accounting Film & Motion Graphics All programs lead to certifications.

Diploma Options All students MUST meet the requirements of the Standard Diploma to graduate. Merit and Scholar Diploma options EXCEED the Standard Diploma requirements. Please take note of the different testing & course requirements for each designation. The designation is determined during their SENIOR year based on what the student has completed.

Schedule Change Policy Acceptable reasons to change a schedule after school begins: 1. Student already passed course listed on his/her schedule. 2. Student is in a class and has not met the course prerequisite. 3. Student has a "hole" in his/her schedule. **We cannot accommodate teacher requests.
