Why Study in Wimbledon? Wimbledon is a safe and prosperous area located 17 minutes by train from central London. It is well connected by trains, buses and trams. Wimbledon is located in London s Fare Zone 3. There are many shops, cafés, restaurants, pubs and cinemas, all within a few minutes walk of Milner School. Wimbledon has 500 hectares of beautiful natural woodland, ideal for walking, horse-riding and golf. The famous Wimbledon Tennis Championships take place in Wimbledon every summer! Living and studying in Wimbledon is less expensive than central London. Milner s homestays live in Wimbledon or nearby, some within walking distance of the school. Students can save money and time on transport.

Plus FREE WEEKLY PRONUNCIATION CLASSES. Students are required to buy a course book on their first day. The average age is 18-25 years, minimum age is 16. Students can choose 15 or 7 hours/week or combine them to study 22 hours/week intensive English. Course length: Minimum enrolment is one week. Long term students can enrol for an Academic Year which is 36 weeks in length. The weekly tuition rate is cheaper. Students can study 22 or 15 hours per week of General English, IELTS / Academic English or Cambridge preparation or a combination of these. All students should complete our online test when they enrol plus a written and spoken test on their first day, to determine their level. Students progress is closely monitored by their teacher and our Director of Studies If necessary, transfers can be made between classes without delay. Students are expected to attend at least 80% of their classes. Students who complete their course satisfactorily receive the Milner School of English Certificate, stating their level of proficiency. Start any Monday. General English 15 hours Mornings 9.30-12.45. Course content: Lessons at all levels focus on grammatical structure, functions, guided conversations, vocabulary, communicative situations, reading, writing, listening and speaking skills, accuracy, fluency and pronunciation. A variety of materials are used including a course book. General English 7 hours Afternoons part-time 13.30-15.15. Course content: Speaking, listening, vocabulary and pronunciation practice, using activities that are relevant to the everyday use of language eg. asking for information, giving advice and understanding English in different situations. General English 22 hours Intensive course combining the 15 and 7 hour courses Studying in both the mornings and afternoons will ensure quicker progress in all skill areas.

IELTS / Academic English Study for 22 or 15 hours per week. A pre-entry test is required prior to acceptance into the class. It is suitable for good intermediate to advanced level students. The focus is on academic writing and reading skills. Tuition fees are the same as for General English. IELTS tests are available twice a month in Wimbledon. Cambridge First & Advanced Study for 22 or 15 hours per week. Internationally recognised general English exams, suitable for Intermediate / B2 to advanced / C1. Flexible course dates and choice of exam dates available. Study for any number of weeks according to your needs. Our experienced teaching team can provide exam support and advice in addition to your course. Add some one-to-one lessons to your course to enhance your level. Private Tuition One-to-one English lessons tailored to the student s individual requirements. Private lessons can be arranged either as an addition to a standard course or on their own. Examples: Business English, writing skills, exam preparation, CV preparation, etc. English + Tennis Programme Suitable for groups or individuals and available all year round. The programme includes: English lessons in the mornings (15 hour course), Monday to Friday, 09.30-12.45. Private tennis lessons in the afternoons, 4 hours per week at Westside Lawn Tennis Club, in Wimbledon. FREE Gym membership. English + Work Experience / English +Volunteering See website for details. Free Pronunciation Classes Weekly classes open to all Milner students who would like to improve their pronunciation for more effective communication.

The Teachers All Milner School s teachers are trained to teach English as a foreign language. They all speak English as a first language and many speak a foreign language too. They have been chosen for their ability to work together as a team and relate well to young adults. Their teaching experience comes from teaching both abroad and in the UK. Accommodation Homestay is where a student lives in the home of a British family. Homestay offers students the opportunity to practise their English and gives insight into the British way of life. Milner School s Homestays are located in Wimbledon and the surrounding areas, often within walking distance to the school. We select Homestays who are friendly, welcoming and have a comfortable home. The term British Homestay Family can encompass different family structures and backgrounds. Some of our Homestay providers are couples, some may have children living in the home, and some are single ladies. Our Homestay providers are a reflection of our society and come from different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Social Programme Our Social Programme Organiser arranges a variety of activities and excursions for students. In addition, the organiser is available to advise and help students on things to do in London and Wimbledon. Every Monday new students are invited to a welcome meeting. Many of Milner School s social activities are free or very cheap. For example: Pub nights: enjoy a drink at the local pub with friends. (Over 18s). London Walk: a guided walk around an undiscovered part of London. Museum/Art Gallery visits. Examples of our paid excursions & activities: Hampton Court Palace visit Henry VIII s favourite residence! Chelsea Football Stadium Tour - home to one of the UK s favourite football teams. Wimbledon Tennis Championships (June/July) for a once-in-a-lifetime experience! Tickets are often available for those who are prepared to queue. Traditional English afternoon tea at the historical Cannizaro House on Wimbledon Common. A trip to the coast: Brighton.
