ALAMO HEIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL (revised 10-7-2016) 2016-2017 COACHES, SPONSORS and FACILITATORS FOR STUDENT ACTIVITIES ACADEMIC ORGANIZATIONS Academic Decathlon Marlin Seigman & Christopher Altermatt The Academic Decathlon team competes in the annual United States Academic Decathlon competition, a competition consisting of ten academic categories across the disciplines. National Art Honor Society Megan Church & Kirsten Guerrero The National Art Honor Society (NAHS) is designed specifically for high school students in grades 9 12. The National Art Education Association began the National Art Honor Society program to inspire and recognize students who have shown an outstanding ability and interest in art. Future Business Leaders of America Ron Malasky Future Business Leaders of America is the largest career oriented student organization in the world. The goal of the club is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.

Hoofprint Kristin Cade Students must have sponsor approval to be a member of the class and must have taken Journalism I at AH. Students are responsible for producing and creating eight 16 pages issues (Sept. April) and one 24 page special issue in May all the while meeting deadlines and budgets. Jabberwocky Eric Cruz The Jabberwocky is Alamo Heights High School literary magazine. The Jab highlights student creative poetry, prose, fiction, and art, displaying the diverse range of voices and talent at AHHS. Junior Statesman of America Stephen Tucker & Dean Grey The mission of the Junior State of America and the Junior Statesmen Foundation (JSA) is to strengthen American democracy by educating and preparing high school students for life long involvement and responsible leadership in a democratic society. Latin Club Nicole Lehman & Amy Barnett The Latin Club provides social and co curricular academic opportunities for students who are enrolled in Latin classes. Local and state level Junior Classical League conventions in the spring promote deeper learning of a particular area of study in the Classics while fostering friendships within and beyond our campus. LIFE/Peer Tutors Jennifer Nuckles Peer tutoring offers a unique and rewarding experience for students who wish to have an opportunity for service as an integral part of a communityreference and activity based program, which addresses the needs of our students with different learning essentials, as they prepare to meet the post high school world. These young ladies and gentlemen not only serve as instructional support for their peers, but also as positive role models. Los Amigos Lucinda Salinas Los Amigos Spanish Club is a student run organization for all AHHS students with a common interest in Spanish Language and Culture. We are dedicated to furthering the student s understanding of Hispanic and Latin American cultures through various activities on campus and service learning projects in the community. Mu Alpha Theta Michael Hughes & David Hendrix Mu Alpha Theta is the national math honor society for high schools and junior colleges, focused on the encouragement and celebration of mathematics.

National Honor Society Lanny Hicks, Jan Takac, & Valerie Alvarez The National Honor Society, the nation s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students, is more than just an honor roll. NHS serves to honor those students who demonstrate excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. National Spanish Honor Society Ann Mar & Ellen Reynolds The Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, or National Spanish Honor Society,recognizes outstanding academic achievement in Spanish classes. Members commit to developing their language skills, promoting understanding between peoples and in addition, providing community service. NFL/Debate Mrs. Mindy Perez This club/course provides an introduction to and practice of the art of public speaking, with an emphasis on debate. Students train to compete in tournaments in the events of Lincoln Douglas, Debate, Extemporaneous Speaking, Oral Interpretation, and Congress. Olmos Kristin Cade Students must have sponsor approval to be a member of the class and must have taken Journalism I at AH. Students are responsible for producing the over 400 page all color yearbook and designing it all the while meeting deadlines and budgets. Science Club Ron Malasky The science club provides the opportunity for those that have interests in all disciplines of science to participate in extra curricular activities. Students can attend competitions like Science UIL, Science Bowl, and American Chemical Society events as well as participate in field trips, learn about careers from guest speakers, or design science fair projects. Student Council Emily Brand & Andrew Walton Student Council provides leadership to students and serves the student body, the school, and the community. Students enjoy participating in events like Howdy Night, fund raising for Make A Wish foundation, Red Ribbon Week, Shoes for Kids, blood drives, and much more.
