INTRODUCTION This brochure has been produced so that children and their parents are aware of the vast range of out of school activities available in the area. It is important that children of all ages have the opportunity to participate in leisure activities. It can help develop social skills, gain confidence, as well as finding pursuits that really excite and stimulate. Often these skills stay with people through their lives and are then passed on to the next generation. We are lucky in Pontardawe and surrounding villages to have a wealth of excellent facilities. Not many towns of our size can claim to have a leisure centre, swimming pool and theatre. And we are indebted to those that give their time, often freely, to help our children in their aims. However, not only are we aiming to encourage children to join the existing clubs and organisations, we are also interested in finding out what you think we lack. Children seem to be under far more stress these days and out of school activities can play a useful diversion from every day pressures. With obesity becoming a modern day problem these activities can also be important in improving physical health. We will be holding an Open Day where you can come and meet a number of the coaches and organisers and decide what you fancy having a go at. We look forward to seeing you there.
