Your Columbus State Story Congratulations on choosing Columbus State Community College to complete your degree. Before you depart we would like to invite you to answer a few questions. It s a chance to let us know about any special story regarding your journey while earning a degree. It may be a special professor or instructor, or a staff person at the college. Or it may be a challenge or obstacle you overcame to achieve this goal. If it is something you want to share, let us know. Portions might be used to highlight our graduates during the graduation ceremony or with local media. Dear Prospective Graduate: Congratulations! You are one of the many Columbus State Community College students who are candidates for the upcoming commencement ceremony. The Board of Trustees, President Dr. David Harrison, the faculty and staff join me in looking forward to recognizing your outstanding accomplishments at this special ceremony. The commencement ceremony will take place at Celeste Center 717 East 17 th Avenue at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018. Please arrive at 8:30 a.m. for check-in. Each graduate is invited to attend the commencement ceremony and we want to ensure that the ceremony will be an enjoyable event for you. There is no rehearsal for the ceremony; college staff members will guide you through the ceremony on the morning of graduation. At the Commencement Ceremony only a certificate will be presented to you. Your diploma will be mailed upon completion of your academic degree requirements. PLEASE NOTE: Participation in this ceremony does not mean graduation from Columbus State Community College. Graduation is based upon your completed requirements on the Degree Audit Report. SPRING SEMESTER 2018 COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION MAY 11, 2018 ARRIVE BY 8:30AM Cap, Gown and Tassel Cap, gown and tassel packages are available at the Columbus State Bookstore prior to each graduation. A cap, gown and tassel are the official regalia that must be worn at the Commencement. The cost of the cap, gown and tassel is $32.99. Prior to each graduation, the Columbus State Bookstore will host a Graduation Fair. During the fair, graduates are able to purchase their cap, gown and tassel, diploma frames, and can order graduation announcements or a class ring. Please visit the Columbus State Bookstore website for event information at www.cscc.edu/bookstore or 614-287-2427. Announcements and Diploma Frames Personalized commencement announcements or an official CSCC diploma frame may be purchased online at www.cscc.edu/bookstore. Please click on the red box Order Textbooks & Shop Online. Once you enter the home page of the bookstore s website, on the bottom right select official CSCC Diploma frames or select the Jostens link to order class rings and announcements. For additional information please contact the Columbus State Bookstore at 614-287-2427. FINAL GRADUATE GRADES: Those students who do not meet graduation requirements will be notified by mail. Please check your Degree Audit (DARS) regarding your grades. If you are unsure of how to read the Degree Audit, please contact an advisor for assistance. Diplomas will be mailed to the address on the Petition to Graduate unless you give an alternate address in writing via e-mail to graduation@cscc.edu. Diplomas will be mailed out 6 weeks after the ceremony. Diplomas are not available for pick up. Diplomas are mailed via USPS. Please wait until May 25th to request a final transcript. Your graduation credentials will not be on the transcript if you order before this date. 4

SPRING SEMESTER 2018 COMMENCEMENT INFORMATION MAY 11, 2018 ARRIVE BY 8:30AM Check-in begins at 8:30am and ends at 9:30am. At check-in you will receive a card that you will use to find your position in the processional line. During the ceremony you will give this card to the reader when you reach the stage for your name to be read as you receive your diploma. This card lists: 1. Your program of study and your name exactly as you requested it to appear on your diploma and the way it will be read at commencement. 2. Your current honors status as of the end of AUTUMN SEMESTER 2017 (only if your overall cumulative GPA is 3.5 or higher). Graduates with an honors status will receive a gold cord. College Credit Plus graduates will receive a blue/white cord. Military/Veteran graduates will receive a red/white/blue cord. If you are a graduate who requires accommodations due to a disability, please send an e-mail to: graduation@cscc.edu. Please leave valuables with family or friends, as the assembly area is not secured. CSCC is not responsible for lost or stolen items left behind in the assembly area. To avoid overcrowding and lessen confusion for graduates while lining up, we respectfully request that family and friends not go beyond the check-in area. Tickets are not necessary for guests. We do not hand out diplomas at the ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed to the address you provided on your Petition to Graduate form unless you give an alternate address in writing. If you want your diploma mailed to a different address, please e-mail the new address to graduation@cscc.edu. 5

COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY CHECKLIST COMMENCEMENT PHOTOGRAPHS The college has made arrangements with a professional photographer to take pictures of all graduates after they check-in and as they shake hands with the president on stage. Photos can be ordered online at www.mypicturesnow.com. DISABILITY ACCOMODATIONS Sign language interpreters will be on stage for the ceremony. Accessible seating will be available. If you are a graduate who needs accommodations due to a disability, please send an e-mail to: graduation@cscc.edu. If you have family who requires accommodations due to a disability, there are special seating areas at the venue and you do not need to make arrangements. DIPLOMAS A certificate will be presented to you at the ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed 6 weeks after the ceremony. Diplomas are mailed via USPS to the address you provided on your Petition to Graduate Form. If you want your diploma mailed to a different address please send an e-mail to graduation@cscc.edu. Please include only your name, cougar ID, program of study, graduation semester/year and your new address. PARKING Celeste Center has ample parking space and they do charge a fee of $5.00. HONORS Honors for the ceremony are based upon your overall GPA at the end of the semester before your graduation. Actual graduation honors will be designated on the diplomas and transcripts after the Graduation Staff reviews final grades. FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS All fees and other financial obligations to the college must be paid to receive your official diploma and transcript. 6
