Consultation model We feel that our pupils could and should get more out of their S3 experience. We are looking at ensuring we are meeting the requirements of the National Improvement Framework and Developing Scotland s Young Workforce (DYW) which focus on improving attainment and ensuring positive leaver destinations through skills development.
Differences in models Current model: Study 8 subjects - chance to ensure pace & challenge by giving pupils the opportunity to achieve N4 by the end of S3. Recommend that in S4 the pupils study 6 from the 8 subjects. However: 8 x 3 units = 24 units plus AVU = pressure Not all pupils achieve the N4 in 2 subjects they drop In other 6 subjects N4 is negated by N5 certification Consultation model: Study 8 subjects Pupils must chose 6 from the 8 subjects. N4/5 by end of S4. For the 6 subjects they study for 2 years for N4 /5 - better pace & challenge (no ceiling) through indepth study, achieve full potential. Plus: get a Wider Achievement qualification or added value 2 subjects for 1 year 1 year course, Wider Achievement qualification or added value, possible SQA unit passes
