getting to know us @ CTR CATHOLIC DIVISION OFFICE human resources
get to know us... Introducing the Human Resources Department at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools Gary Chiste Chief Deputy Superintendent Gary was born and raised in southern Alberta. He grew up on a small farm just outside of Diamond City, Alberta. He was not a very good farmer as he was allergic to most things on the farm. School was very important to his parents and from an early age he knew he would be going to university. After high school in Picture Butte he went off to Calgary where he received a Bachelor of Commerce degree. It was at the University of Calgary that he met his wonderful wife Diane. After one year of being a business man he decided to go back to university to become a teacher. He attained his Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta and then went on to receive his Masters of Arts in Education from San Diego State University. Gary loved being a primary teacher in Edmonton and Devon. There was nothing he enjoyed more than interacting with the young students and seeing them learn how to read and write. He became a vice-principal of a middle school in Devon and had many great experiences with the students in their middle school years. He moved to Okotoks in 1993 with Diane and their two children, Leah and Sarah (the third, Michaela, was on the way). He has been with the division for 22 years (eight years at the division office) holding the roles of Principal, Division Principal, Associate Superintendent and now Deputy Superintendent. He truly enjoys recruiting new teachers and working with them once they are in our schools. He has been involved in hiring over half of the staff presently employed at Christ the Redeemer. Anyone who knows Gary knows how much his family means to him. He loves every moment he spends with Diane and his three girls. He is passionate about golf and travel. So much so that he helps to arrange golf trips for people to Scotland and Ireland. He loves to laugh and really is a cup full kind of guy! gchiste@redeemer.ab.ca 403-938-8795
get to know us... Quinlan Dawn Human Resources Coordinator/ Teaching Recruitment I am an Alberta girl, born and raised. Native Albertans are becoming a rarity in Christ the Redeemer Catholic, so I suppose you could say I m a rare bird. I welcome the migrators though; traveling to the far ends of the country to entice the best teachers to join our district is an exciting element of what I do. I have been working in the human resource office for 19 years and have loved every day of it. In the 2010-11 school year, I took a study leave returning to university and completing my BA at that time. Returning to work enlightened and recharged has enhanced my work and life in the last four years, and I eagerly anticipate working at CTR Catholic for many more. Our HR team is amazing! And speaking of amazing, my husband and I have four sons, all married, and enjoy the time we spend with the boys and their families, including three perfect grandchildren. We all relish hitting the slopes in the winter, and take pleasure in camping/boating in the summer months. Shown here are a few of The Quinlans during our 13th annual New Year s ski trip this year. dquinlan@redeemer.ab.ca 403-938-8072
Lauren Peats Human Resources Coordinator I ve been with CTR Catholic for 14 years now, all of this time working in the Human Resources area. My Monday to Friday responsibilities involve keeping the division staffed, mainly in the support area, but I do dabble in teacher hiring when the opportunity presents. It is truly an honour and a blessing to work in this division and with my great HR team, Gary, Dawn and Janell who make everyday a joy.mostly. My favorite thing to do, work wise is connect with new people my least favorite is to file, so if you have given me anything to place in your file, please follow up with Janell. Outside of work I have many interests. I love to spend time with my family, my husband of 32 years, Al, and our two adult children, Allison and Jennifer. I love to travel, cook, eat, read, golf, laugh, garden, quilt and participate in anything that will allow my competitive nature to take me to new levels of excellence and humiliation (mostly humiliation). lpeats@redeemer.ab.ca 403-938-8562 Janell Ferris Administrative Assistant I have been with Christ the Redeemer since June 2002. First working at the Centre for Learning @HOME, then moving to École Good Shepherd School for 6.5 years as Administrative Assistant, and now in the wonderful HR department! Most people might not know that my mom (Janet Bennett) works at Notre Dame Collegiate! I have lived in the Calgary area all my life, moved to Okotoks in 1992 with my husband. We have two boys one 18 and 14 years old who are very involved in lacrosse and dirt bike racing, along with my husband who also plays and loves to ride. I, on the other hand, only like to ride our street bike. We are quite involved in their sport activities (not that I mind)! I would love to travel somewhere other than to sporting events for our holidays, but might have to wait until they don t want me as the tour guide anymore! I also enjoy snowshoeing, hiking, working out and being with my family and friends. jferris@redeemer.ab.ca 403-995-4827
