Will tag and track movements using acoustic telemetry Will study water quality and environmental cues that may affect these movements Analyze blood parameters for implications regarding osmoregulation and trophic interactions MSc Thesis Research, U of A Leigh Marine Laboratory, 2009/2010 Studied the movement and behavior of the New Zealand eagle ray along the coast of NZ Tagged and tracked the NZ Eagle Ray in an estuarine setting using intramuscular tags attached to tow-buoys equipped with satellite telemetry GPS devices and radio transmitters for location. Designed and constructed tidally alternating tanks to examine its responses to sound, feeding behavior, communication, and overall movements. Writing my thesis and getting it published. Biological Science Research, Shangri La Botanical Gardens and Nature Center, June 2008-June 2009 Research the biological effects of Hurricane Ike on aquatic life of southeast Texas Investigate causes of death of birds, fish, turtles, alligators, crabs, etc. Carry out water quality testing and prepare hard data for writing Analyze data collected and publish paper on own Marine Science Research, UT Marine Science Institute, Summer 2007 Studied the movement and behavior of the Atlantic Stingray in its shallow habitat near Port Aransas, Texas. Captured the Atlantic Stingray, sampled blood and tissues, analyzed salinity affects through various laboratory experiments. Isolated DNA strands from the Atlantic Stingray and the Atlantic Sharpnose Shark for isolation of various steroids and study of their susceptibility to stress factors. Wrote portion of paper that will be published. Exploration Research, Great Barrier Reef, Summer 2005 Explored the coast of Australia learning about the different species. Completed 6 dives along the Great Barrier Reef studying the movement and behavior of several different species of fish, turtles, and elasmobranchs.
