PARTNERING WITH COMMUNITIES TO SERVE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS (GT) builds diverse, local teacher pipelines by igniting an early and deep love of teaching among young people. In 3.5 years, Generation Teach has grown from one city to four, from 10 fellows to 177, from three seasonal teacher leaders to 39, and from 52 students to 891. We have provided 398 teaching fellowships while reversing summer slide for 1,615 middle-school students and investing in the leadership development of over 70 professional teachers. INVESTING COLLEGE AND COLLEGE-BOUND STUDENTS IN TEACHING Our Teaching Fellows complete two weeks of training in identity, relationships, practices, and content, followed by 45-60 hours of solo teaching experience. They receive daily feedback from professional educators through growth conferences, lesson rehearsals, and department meetings. 95% 94% OF TEACHING FELLOWS SAID THEY GREW AS TEACHERS I ve learned teaching is a learning job. DEVELOPING THE MINDSETS OF FUTURE TEACHERS LEARNERS COLLABORATORS This fellowship pushes you to push yourself, see various perspectives, work with compassionate educators, impact students lives and experiences, and gain skills and connections that are beneficial beyond the fellowship. -2017 TEACHING FELLOW COMMUNITY MEMBERS 99% of fellows believe GT has an atmosphere of enthusiasm and joy 96% of fellows said they grew as leaders as a result of their fellowship 93% of fellows would recommend GT to other students 98% of fellows believe GT has a deep investment in the growth of students

SERVING DIVERSE MIDDLE-SCHOOL STUDENTS 891 STUDENTS BY THE NUMBERS 93% 82% 53% 20% STUDENTS OF COLOR FREE OR REDUCED-PRICE LUNCH MALE HAVE AN IEP OR 504 PLAN Our students were rising fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from Boston, Denver, Holyoke, and Providence district and charter schools. Over 90% of our students were from district schools; we enrolled students on a first-come, first-served basis. I like all the teachers at STEAM Academy because they made me laugh. It was fun every day. I learned a lot of things from STEAM Academy because of them. They made me feel more confident. I don t feel nervous about going to middle school anymore. -2017 GT STEAM ACADEMY STUDENT

REVERSING SUMMER SLIDE FOR MIDDLE-SCHOOL STUDENTS SUMMER LEARNING RESULTS Students without access to summer opportunities experience two months, on average, of learning loss in both math and reading. -2 MONTHS AVERAGE LEARNING LOSS -2 MONTHS AVERAGE LEARNING LOSS 4.8 MONTHS MATH GROWTH* 2.3 MONTHS READING GROWTH* *Renaissance Learning STAR Reading and Math Assessments measured students grade-level equivalence during the first and last weeks of the GT STEAM Academy. The data reflects the average student growth from the 5-week Summer Academy. READING: Our reading fellows shared Piecing Me Together with their students and led discussions about race, community, and intersectionality. MATH: Math fellows created communities of collaborative problem solvers who wrestled with Common Core math problems. Students studied speech & debate, math, social studies, reading, engineering, and fun fitness. They selected two electives ranging from salsa to chess, hip hop dance to origami, and American Sign Language to African history. Special events included visits to local colleges and museums, Academic Triathlon, and Community Celebration.

PARTNERING WITH FAMILIES 94% of families would recommend the GT STEAM to other families. 90% of families believe their child is better prepared for school as a result of GT STEAM. 92% of families are more engaged in their child s education as a result of GT STEAM. I feel that this program motivated students to be themselves. The program also communicated with me very well. I FOSTERING LOCAL TEACHER LEADERSHIP Generation Teach allows you to experience our profession in an entirely different light.
