A NEW FUNDRAISING EVENT FOR MERCY HOUSING CALIFORNIA MARCH 15, 2017 SPONSORSHIP PACKET
Home Is Just the Beginning, a new fundraising event for Mercy Housing California, to be held at the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 will benefit our revitalization of the aging Sunnydale neighborhood in San Francisco s Visitacion Valley. Residents of the Sunnydale public housing campus want the same things as all San Franciscans: good jobs, safe neighborhoods, parks to play in, stores selling fresh food, and neighbors they trust. They want their kids to grow up strong, smart and healthy, ready for college and a career. But it s hard to make dreams come true in Sunnydale. Poverty is endemic, job prospects seem dim, and the school system struggles. A POWERFUL OPPORTUNITY FOR LONG-LASTING CHANGE Imagine replacing the current campus with beautiful new homes, tree-lined streets and vibrant community spaces. Imagine providing services that lead to long-lasting change for the 1,700 people who live there. It can be done, and Mercy Housing is at the forefront today, leading an ambitious multi-year effort to transform Sunnydale. FROM THIS TO THAT Mercy Housing is one of the nation s largest affordable housing developers and has created more than 12,000 new homes in California since the 1980s. We have the experience to make Sunnydale a neighborhood where dreams become reality. But your support is critical.
PROGRAMS THAT INVEST IN PEOPLE What distinguishes Mercy Housing California, even more than the number and quality of our homes, is our commitment to on-site programs that help residents as they strive to achieve more. In partnership with organizations like the Boys and Girls Club, Wu Yee Children s Services and the YMCA, Mercy Housing California is investing in Sunnydale s most precious resource, its people, and in practical services that build hope, trust and opportunity. Home is Just the Beginning will invest in three highly effective service programs. 1. The Mercy Housing Resident Services Program provides on-site staff to work with groups of residents and one-on-one with some 400 of the highest-need families to connect people with services that improve health, school outcomes, job readiness, and community safety. 2. Through the Mercy Housing Community Safety Liaison Program, a neighborhood resident mentors youth to de-escalate conflict and identify jobs that provide an alternative to gangs and street life. This program is making the community safer and more peaceful, and it is changing the trajectory of young lives. 3. Fostering a close community and a spirit of hope, Mercy Housing has organized a highly-prized community garden and helps support a rich array of community events, such as beautification days and a well-attended annual back-to-school celebration. We have seen the remarkable results from programs like these in our communities throughout the country. This practical approach helps open doors and brings permanent change. YOUR SPONSORSHIP WILL HELP BREAK THE CYCLE OF POVERTY Together these programs cost $350,000 per year. Please join us as a sponsor for Home Is Just the Beginning. Together with the people of Sunnydale, we can make this a neighborhood where dreams come true. ANOTHER REASON TO PARTICIPATE The Susan Wang Fund for Mercy Housing has established a Challenge Pool to inspire you to increase your support for Mercy Housing s work in Sunnydale. Your contribution above the ticket cost will be doubled with funds from the Challenge Pool! The Susan Wang Fund for Mercy Housing California honors the memory of Susan Wang, who served on the Mercy Housing California Board of Directors for several years and was a member of the Mercy Housing California Board of Advisors at the time of her passing in March 2016.

Founded in 1981 by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Housing creates stable, vibrant and healthy communities by developing, financing and operating affordable, program-enriched housing for families, seniors and people with special needs who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe housing opportunities. We are working to create a more humane world where poverty is alleviated, communities are healthy and all people can develop their full potential. We believe that affordable housing and supportive programs improve the economic status of residents, transform neighborhoods and stabilize lives.
