Issue: 20 Date: 10 Feb 2017 I hope that everybody appreciated the way the temperature dropped this week to help Foundation Stage as they investigated the North Pole; that's the sort of detail our teachers go to! Staff have all been working with staff at St John's N20 and Alma school to look at how we can improve writing for children across the school; you might have seen us all heading off for joint staff meetings at Alma. After identifying shared areas for development earlier in the term, staff have been examining how modelling writing can be used to help children with the creative process. Talking about the writing process is something you could do with your children at home, whether it's you or them doing the writing. Congratulations to Mary Ward House who won the house points total this half term! Medicine in school This is often the time of year when antibiotics get prescribed. Please think carefully before sending your child back to school while they are still on these drugs, as they can often have quite a strong effect. We will only administer prescribed medicines which need to be taken four times a day and only when an authorisation form has been completed. We have added this to the "policies" page of the website for you. Please don't send children in with the form and medicine without speaking to Mrs Meehan or one of the office staff in advance. Week commencing 20th February at Sacred Heart Monday 20 February CHILDREN RETURN TO SCHOOL Tuesday 21 February 1A Trip to Pizza Express Wednesday 22 February - Rewards assembly J Side

Children should bring a healthy packed lunch in a disposable bag thanks. All after school clubs will resume as usual the week commencing 20 th February except Debating Club which will start on Monday 27 th February. Year 1 - Date For Your Diary There will be a meeting for Year 1 parents/carers on Weds 8 March at 2.30 regarding phonics and phonics testing. A voucher collection box is in the reception area. Thank you. Music Tuition Summer Term 2017 Bills have gone home via the children. Under borough guidelines we have to ask for payment one term in advance. Payments need to be made by Wednesday 3 March 2017 so that we can confirm our requirements with Barnet Education Arts Trust. We encourage you to pay via Wisepay or alternatively cash or cheque (payable to Sacred Heart School). Parents Forum Meetings We have held 2 Parent Forum meetings recently - on 19 December 2016 and 9 February 2017. Please click here to read about the items that were raised in these meetings. Parents' Association Sadly the PA AGM didn't take place last week however for all those wishing to attend there will be a new date confirmed when we return from half term. Please pencil in Sunday 2nd July for this year's SUMMER FAYRE - we appreciate any help we can get to organise the biggest event of the year and will be discussing this more at the next PA meeting so please come along. Sponsored Sums Your child will have brought home information about the Parents Association s next fundraising event the Sponsored Sums. This event has raised over 26,000 over the past six years and has made an enormous contribution to supporting the school. Your child will have a letter, a list of sums and a sponsorship sheet for them to collect sponsors. The

test will take place on Thursday 23rd February so they will have nearly two weeks to practice and get their sponsors. This year, the sums will be posted to the individual year groups pages along with the sponsorship form on the school website if your child is away or the sheets get mislaid! We re delighted to confirm that the money raised this year will go towards replacement of school windows. I hope you and your children will enjoy supporting this fundraising event. 200 Club Congratulations to the winners of the December and January draws, who are listed below: DECEMBER 1st Prize ( 125) - Angela Tougher 2nd Prize ( 50) - Sheila Maloney 3rd Prize ( 25) - Pinar Aydemir JANUARY 1st Prize ( 125) - Nicola Griffin 2nd Prize ( 50) - John & Paul Shanahan 3rd Prize ( 25) - Karen Nimmo (Cummins) All cheques will be available to pick up from the office after half term.
