Program Introduction The International Summer Program is specially designed by Korea Aerospace University for students with an interest in both Aerospace and Korea. The Program runs every year in June and July. All courses are conducted in English and are taught by renowned professors at KAU and visiting professors in the world. The exclusive KAU s summer program offers international students from all over the world the unique opportunity to combine learning, creative enrichment and action-packed adventure. Along with three week intensive lectures, the program also offers our international students an optional internship opportunity at Korean Air which is one of the biggest airlines in the world. We aim to provide you with a fun, engaging and memorable study abroad experience in an informal and friendly atmosphere. Program Overview Period June 25 - July 20, 2012 Optional Internship at Korean AIR July 23 to August 10, 2012 ISP Courses Morning Session 09AM-11:50AM Aviation Safety and Security (3 Credits 45 Hours) Seth Young(Professor at Ohio State University) This course provides the student with a detailed introduction into aspects of aviation safety and security, with an emphasis on safety management systems and safety assurance practices. The course will also cover all proactive safety programs including flight data monitoring, safety reporting and safety auditing. It does so by examining the main theories proposed by international relations (IR) specialists over the past 100 years. In order to demonstrate how theories can be applied in practice, several case studies will be examined. Finally, the class will look at threats and issues particular to international relations in the 21st century. Afternoon Session 02PM-04:50PM Airport Management (3 Credits 45 Hours) Seth Young (Professor at Ohio State University) This course is a comprehensive study of airport operations and management including role of the airport manager in planning, finance, administration, public relations, socio-political and environmental considerations, and operational requirements and maintenance. Internet Security with Emerging Applications (3 Credits 45 Hours) Chan Yeob Yeun (Professor at Khalifa University, UAE) Foundation of Information Security concepts and technologies. Symmetric and Asymmetric Cryptography Techniques, Identify the main network security threats and vulnerabilities. Cultural Activities and Field Training Period June 16 - July 20 Incheon International Airport Incheon International Airport will be your first look of Korea when you come to our Summer program. Incheon International Airport opened in 2001 and is the 3rd largest terminal in size in the world. The airport has been rated as the best airport for its airport services by the Airports Council International for six consecutive years out of 1700 airports around the world. It was awarded as the World s top commercial airline cargo operation in 2007. It serves 130 cities in 45 countries and its domestic division serves 20 destinations. Due to the highly competitive nature of the program, not all applicants to the ISP internship program will be guaranteed an internship position. During the international summer program, which takes place in the month of June and July, students will be able to enjoy the best that Seoul has to offer. Payment Payment for tuition and other fees can be made by wire transfer to Korea Aerospace University. Attractions near KAU The Hongdae Area is known for its entertainment and clubs. Also, the area is a mecca of young art in Korea. Hongdae is one of the best places to enjoy various art and contemporary culture in South Korea. It takes only 30 minutes from KAU campus by bus. Insa Dong Known as a street of traditional Korean culture, Insadong is home to dozens of galleries, antique shops, traditional restaurants, teashops, and souvenir shops. A walk around Insa-dong and Ssamziegil takes about an hour. All students who withdraw their program before the start of the program (June 25, 2012) will be charged USD 50 for cancellation. All other remaining tuition and fees will be 100% refunded. If a student withdraws during the first week of classes (by June 29th, 2012) only 80% of tuition will be refunded. No refund will be given after July 5th, 2012 under any circumstances.
