Dallam School LEARNING FOR ALL, LEARNING FOR LIFE

Our son selected Dallam as first choice because the school offers more opportunities, academic and cross curricular. Welcome to Dallam, an 11-19 mixed comprehensive school with state boarding. We are proud of our reputation as a successful International Baccalaureate World School. We have an excellent track record of outstanding examination achievement for all as well as providing fantastic resources for outdoor and adventurous activity. Opportunity underpins a diverse and flexible curriculum. We provide a unique learning environment in which students can choose from a wide range of academic and vocational opportunities. These range from GCSEs, BTECs and A Levels to the highly regarded International Baccalaureate. Practical work, discussion, visits, research and IT-based study are all designed to equip our students with the skills they need to become active, lifelong learners. This is encapsulated within our Dallam Learner Profile, the DLP. Our inclusive ethos also meets both the academic and vocational needs of all our students, from those with exceptional talents to those with special educational needs. Dallam is one of the countries leading providers of outdoor education. The principles of challenge and adventure are embedded across the whole curriculum. At Dallam, we aim to give all of our students a rich and rewarding education, filled with exciting opportunities designed to develop independent learning, teamwork and creativity. Opportunity Dallam is a unique school and an exceptional place for young people to learn and grow William Bancroft, Headteacher

At Dallam, we pride ourselves on providing a 21st century education built on traditional values. Thank you to a school that means so much to all of us Our reputation for academic excellence goes back more than 400 years to our foundation by Edward Wilson in 1613. Since then, we have continued to provide an outstanding education for young people in both the immediate area and from around the world. Our primary school liaison programme means that, on the first day at Dallam, Year 7 students are already familiar with the school and some of the staff. Relationships between students and staff are excellent, and older students take great delight in helping younger students in subjects such as reading, Mathematics, Science and PE. We want all of our students to be happy and to feel valued, and we believe that good communication between home and school is vital to a student s education. Our outstanding pastoral system provides a caring and supportive environment that safeguards the emotional and social needs of all our students, as well as ensuring their personal development and wellbeing. Students have the opportunity to study a wide range of languages. We have an extensive programme of exchange and study visits which help to prepare them for working in an increasingly global economy. This enables students to understand their responsibilities, and to take their place as citizens in the wider world. Identity

Students are keen to learn and as a result they make excellent progress across a broad range of subjects. We are proud of our heritage, but we are also excited about the future. We seek to embrace positive change, and aim to be at the leading edge of developments in learning and teaching. Following a major rebuilding programme, the school also boasts the latest in educational facilities. Excellence is at the heart of all that we do. A strong focus on personal development ensures that students can take part in activities that complement their studies. Among these are the Dallam Diploma and the Duke of Edinburgh s Award, whose range of activities help to widen our students experience. An extensive extra-curricular programme gives our young people the chance to discover new interests or explore their creativity. This includes musical productions, artistic opportunities, instrumental lessons, dance events, and a wealth of lunchtime and after-school sporting clubs, including netball, rugby, cricket, tennis and cross country running. Impartial careers advice helps students to make an informed choice at key points in their educational journey. At 16, students progress to Dallam Sixth Form, into further education, training or employment. The majority of students go on to higher education including Oxford or Cambridge. We are proud of our students and our community and we look forward to welcoming you to our school. Pastoral care is second to none - we are so grateful for the support Dallam staff have provided for our child Parent of Year 11 student Excellence
