Đề tài : PHƢƠNG PHÁP TẠO HỨNG THÚ HỌC TIẾNG ANH QUA CÁC TRÒ CHƠI KHỞI ĐỘNG I. LÍ DO CHỌN ĐỀ TÀI: Mặc dù đã đƣợc đƣa vào chƣơng trình THPT khá lâu rồi nhƣng tiếng Anh vẫn là một môn học khó và ít đƣợc học sinh chú tâm, đặc biệt là học sinh nông thôn. Tại sao lại nói nhƣ vậy? Bởi vì để học tốt tiếng Anh, yếu tố quan trọng nhất là có môi trƣờng rèn luyện, trong khi đó học sinh nông thôn ít đƣợc tiếp xúc với môi trƣờng ngoại ngữ và chính bản thân các em khi ở trong môi trƣờng ngoại ngữ rồi cũng không nhận ra đƣợc là mình đang trong môi trƣờng đó. Quan trọng tiếp theo đó chính là yếu tố động lực. Khi đã có động lực để học tập thì học sinh không những tích cực học ở trên lớp mà ở nhà các em cũng sẽ chịu khó học tập, tự tìm tòi và tạo môi trƣờng học tiếng Anh cho chính mình. Nhƣ vậy có thể suy ra nhân tố quan trọng nhất trong việc học ngoại ngữ đối với học sinh nông thôn đó chính là động lực. Là một giáo viên ra trƣờng đã 14 năm, tôi rất trăn trở dù rằng trong ngần ấy năm giảng dạy tôi cũng đúc kết rất nhiều kinh nghiệm thực tiễn, tôi luôn cố gắng tìm tòi học hỏi kinh nghiệm từ các đồng nghiệp, đặc biệt là các đồng nghiệp đi trƣớc. Trong đó, kinh nghiệm khởi động cho học sinh và dẫn dắt học sinh vào bài mới luôn là phần tôi chú ý nhất. Đây tuy chỉ là một phần nhỏ và chiếm thời gian không nhiều trong thời lƣợng một bài dạy nhƣng lại có tác dụng rất lớn trong việc tạo hứng thú học tập cho học sinh. Vì vậy, trong bài viết này tôi xin trình bày một số kinh nghiệm áp dụng các trò chơi (xin đƣợc thay bằng từ chuyên ngành Game) vào phần khởi động (xin đƣợc thay bằng từ chuyên ngành Warm-up) cho một số bài học của sách giáo khoa Tiếng Anh 10, 11, 12. II. TỔ CHỨC THỰC HIỆN ĐỀ TÀI: 1. Cơ sở lý luận Không thể phủ nhận đƣợc rằngtiếng Anh so với các môn học khác vẫn còn khá mới mẻ đối với hầu hết các trƣờng THPT ở Việt Nam, tuy nhiên trên thế giới nó đã phát triển từ rất lâu. Do đó có vô số kinh nghiệm mà chúng ta có thể học tập đƣợc từ các nƣớc bạn. Về mặt lý luận, trong giáo học pháp của môn tiếng Anh, phần Warm-up luôn là phần đƣợc coi trọng và hầu nhƣ là không thể thiếu trong bất kỳ một giáo án nào. Thêm vào đó, phƣơng pháp chủ yếu để khởi động học sinh là bằng hệ thống các trò chơi. Vì vậy, bất kỳ giáo viên tiếng Anh nào cũng phải biết ít nhất vài trò chơi để áp dụng vào bài dạy của mình. Đây là đặc trƣng của bộ môn dạy ngôn ngữ.
2. Cơ sở thực tiễn Chúng ta có rất nhiều phƣơng pháp để khởi động (warm up) học sinh vào đầu giờ học. Với những giáo viên có nhiều kinh nghiệm thì việc mở đầu một cách trôi chảy, hợp lý và lôi cuốn đƣợc học sinh vào bài mới sẽ không có nhiều khó khăn. Tuy nhiên, không ít giáo viên cảm thấy việc lựa chọn phƣơng pháp để khởi động học sinh còn khó và mất nhiều thời gian hơn là soạn nội dung chính của bài hoặc giáo viên không thấy hết tầm quan trọng của nó nên bỏ qua. Hiện nay, việc thay mới sách giáo khoa khiến nhiều giáo viên cảm thấy lúng túng, ngay cả với những giáo viên đã có kinh nghiệm. Do đó, việc soạn nội dung chính một giáo án mới đã mất rất nhiều thời gian và tâm huyết, giáo viên không còn chú ý nhiều đến phần Warm-up nữa. Và thế là rất nhiều ngƣời coi việc kiểm tra bài cũ lấy điểm miệng chính là phần Warm-up. Thực tế, việc lạm dụng kiểm tra bài cũ đầu giờ gây rất nhiều áp lực cho học sinh và làm cho không khí giờ học sau đó kém phần sôi nổi. Điều đó có nghĩa là bài học sẽ không thành công. Nó cũng chỉ giống nhƣ việc giáo viên vào lớp và đi luôn vào bài mới mà thôi. Nhiều tài liệu tham khảo về phƣơng pháp dạy học tiếng Anh cũng đã giới thiệu một số trò chơi phổ biến áp dụng đƣợc trong tất cả các phần của một giờ học, tức là chúng ta có thể sử dụng vào phần Warm-up, ví dụ nhƣ Chain game, Guessing Game, Hangman, Lucky Numbers, Noughts and Crosses, Rub out and Remember, Slap the Board.. Những trò chơi này có thể đƣợc coi là những trợ giảng đắc lực cho rất nhiều giáo viên tiếng Anh ở mọi cấp học. Nhóm tiếng Anh trƣờng THPT Long Phƣớc cũng đã tƣơng đối tích cực trong việc sử dụng các trò chơi phổ biến này trong giờ học, ở cả phần Warm-up và trong một số hoạt động khác. 3. Nội dung, biện pháp thực hiện các giải pháp của đề tài Trong quá trình dạy học, dự giờ, học hỏi kinh nghiệm, và nghiên cứu tài liệu sách vở, tôi đã để ý đƣợc rất nhiều dạng trò chơi có thể phù hợp với từng bài cụ thể trong sách giáo khoa Tiếng Anh 10, Tiếng Anh 11 và Tiếng Anh 12. Từ đó, tôi đã mạnh dạn soạn một số tiết có phần warm up bằng các trò chơi thông dụng nhƣ Slap the Board, Hangman, Word Square, Networks, Kim s Game..Qua quá trình thực hiện, có thể thấy rõ ràng là không khí lớp học sôi nổi hơn nhiều, học sinh gác lại hẳn những dƣ âm của môn học trƣớc đó và sẵn sàng vào bài mới trong môi trƣờng mới môi trƣờng tiếng Anh. Kinh nghiệm cho thấy, những bài không có phần Warm-up hợp lý hoặc không có phần Warm-up chắc chắn đã làm giảm phần sôi nổi tích cực của học sinh. Cũng qua quá trình này, tôi đã có thể loại bỏ một số trò chơi không phù hợp khi dẫn dắt vào bài mới.
Để soạn những bài phần Warm-up, ngoài việc vận dụng những kinh nghiệm đã có trong quá trình học ở trƣờng đại học, đọc sách tham khảo liên quan, và học hỏi đồng nghiệp, tôi còn tích cực khai thác thông tin trên mạng. Ở đó có một số website rất hữu ích cho giáo viên dạy tiếng Anh, ví dụ nhƣ englishclub.com, onestopenglish.com, hocngoaingu.net, globaledu.com.vn Dƣới đây, tôi xin trình bày một số trò chơi tôi thƣờng dùng trong phần khởi động ở một số bài học trong sách giáo khoa Tiếng Anh 10,11,12. Mỗi phần sẽ có các bƣớc thực hiện thông thƣờng nói chung và các bƣớc cụ thể khi thực hiện trong một bài dạy cụ thể. Phần trình bày chung về đặc điểm của trò chơi xin đƣợc trình bày bằng tiếng Việt, còn phần cụ thể cho từng bài dạy tôi xin trình bày bằng tiếng Anh. a. Ví dụ, GV có thể chia lớp thành 2 đội và chuẩn bị 2 nhóm từ khác nhau cho 2 đội, đội nào có nhiều đáp án đúng hơn sẽ chiến thắng; hoặc có thể chia lớp thành 4 đội, cho các đội tự chọn từ và đố nhau (Đội 1 đố đội 2, đội 2 đố đội 3, đội 3 đố đội 4, và đội 4 đố đội 1). IV. ĐỀ XUẤT, KHUYẾN NGHỊ KHẢ NĂNG ÁP DỤNG Qua quá trình áp dụng phƣơng pháp dạy học mới vào giảng dạy bộ môn Tiếng Anh, cụ thể là áp dụng những trò chơi ngôn ngữ đã đƣợc các bậc tiền bối trong cùng lĩnh vực sáng tạo nên, tôi rút ra đƣợc một số bài học kinh nghiệm sau: - Cần luôn luôn coi trọng phần Warm-up, nếu nhƣ giáo viên soạn qua loa hoặc bỏ qua chắc chắn sẽ làm giảm chất lƣợng cả buổi học - Trong quá trình áp dụng các trò chơi quen thuộc, cần có những biện pháp thay đổi hoặc cải biến phù hợp với từng bài học và với từng đối tƣợng HS để tránh nhàm chán. - Một số trò chơi ngoài tác dụng khởi động học sinh còn có thể giúp giáo viên kiểm tra bài cũ và cho điểm. Ngoài ra, nếu nhƣ không thể cho điểm nhờ phần warm up này, giáo viên vẫn có thể cho điểm thƣờng xuyên cho học sinh bằng cách đánh giá mức độ tham gia trong suốt giờ học - Cần chuẩn bị kĩ những phƣơng án giải quyết tiếng ồn cho những loại trò chơi có thể gây ra nhiều. Nếu không, dù có thể cho học sinh trở thành trung tâm và chủ thể quá trình học nhƣng giáo viên lại mất quyền kiểm soát giờ học. - Sau mỗi tiết dạy áp dụng các trò chơi ngôn ngữ trên lại có thêm một số kinh nghiệm mới đƣợc rút ra, nhƣng trên đây là bài học kinh nghiệm chủ yếu xin đƣợc chia sẻ từ quí đồng nghiệp. - Rõ ràng không thể phủ nhận những ƣu việt của việc sử dụng những trò chơi ngôn ngữ quen thuộc để khởi động cho học sinh vào bài mới, vì vậy mong rằng các thầy cô bộ môn Tiếng Anh ngày càng chú trọng hơn đến phần này để tạo hứng thú cho học sinh trong việc học tiếng Anh. Để làm tăng tính hiệu quả và phát huy tích cực những ƣu điểm của những trò chơi này, tôi xin có một số khuyến nghị nhƣ sau: a. Trong các buổi sinh hoạt nhóm, giáo viên bộ môn tiếng Anh trao đổi kinh nghiệm sử dụng trò chơi vào phần khởi động; ngoài ra có thể phân công nhiệm vụ cho từng thành viên soạn phần này trong từng bài cụ thể, sau đó chia sẻ với các thành viên khác trong nhóm để tăng hiệu quả phần soạn. b. Nếu có thể, nhà trƣờng giúp đỡ tổ chức một buổi ngoại khóa tiếng Anh trong đó các phần có sử dụng tích cực những trò chơi ngôn ngữ phổ biến để học sinh dần quen với các hình thức này; từ đó các em có thể tự áp dụng các trò chơi này trong môi trƣờng ngoài trƣờng học. c. Một số trò chơi sử dụng trong môn tiếng Anh cũng có tác dụng gần tƣơng tự nhƣ khi áp dụng vào các bộ môn khác, không chỉ trong phần khởi động mà cả trong mọt số hoạt động
trong phần nội dung chính của bài học. Vì vậy, nếu có thể mong thầy cô các bộ môn khác có thể tham khảo những trò chơi của bộ môn tiếng Anh (đã đƣợc in thành sách ở rất nhiều tài liệu cho giáo viên tiếng Anh) để xem xét và có những thay đổi phù hợp vào bộ môn của mình.
