Tidewater Community College s dual enrollment options provide qualifying high school students a unique opportunity to jumpstart their college careers. From business to advanced manufacturing, TCC s dual enrollment program allows you to pursue your passions in college-level classes taught by qualified instructors before you even graduate from high school. You can get started as early as your freshman year with a customizable course load that fits your busy schedule and extracurricular activities. WHY DUAL ENROLLMENT? EARN COLLEGE CREDIT WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL Dual enrollment students have several options. You can take dual credit classes for both college and high school credit, enroll at TCC as a concurrent student and receive only college credit, or choose a combination of the two! GET AHEAD ON YOUR DEGREE As a dual enrollment student, you can graduate high school with over a year of college credits already on your transcript. Whether you take one course or several, you ll be ahead of the curve and that much closer to your degree. SAVE MONEY Earning college credits in high school is a great way to reduce your future college costs. And TCC offers public high school students dual enrollment options at minimal cost to the student, less than one third of our standard rate. AVOID HIGH-STAKES TESTING Unlike Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) credit, which is accepted or rejected depending on a student s final test performance, dual enrollment credits are generally eligible for transfer to another college or university upon completion. IS DUAL ENROLLMENT FOR ME? YES, IF YOU are a junior or senior in a Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake or Virginia Beach public high school or a qualified private or home school program (exceptional freshmen and sophomores may also be eligible with approval) meet college readiness standards You should also be prepared to take on advanced coursework. Collegelevel courses are more demanding and require more work than most courses you take in high school. The grades you receive will become a permanent part of your college academic record.
DUAL ENROLLMENT AT CHESAPEAKE CAMPUS With academic planning beginning in middle school and early high school years, the dual enrollment program at Chesapeake Campus provides pathways for Chesapeake Public Schools students to complete college transfer coursework or work toward an in-demand career while still in high school. Credit earned for the courses taken can be transferred to other public or private colleges in Virginia or applied toward a degree or certificate at TCC. Interested in a career? DUAL ENROLLMENT PATHWAYS Qualifying students within Chesapeake Public Schools can graduate with a high school diploma and a degree or certificate from Tidewater Community College. Degree tracks offered include: Associate of Science in Social Sciences Certificate in General Education Certificate in Information Systems Technology Career Studies Certificate in Collision Repair Technology Career Studies Certificate in Mechatronics Participants can also earn college credits from individual courses like college composition, environmental problems, and microcomputer operating systems.
