SABIS EDUCATIONAL SUMMER CAMP Overview 2017

About the SABIS Educational Summer Camp The 11 th annual SABIS Educational Summer Camp, held at Ashwicke Hall School, continued in its tradition since 2006 of offering camp participants a motivating, inspiring, and exciting opportunity to learn, grow, shine, and have fun in the process! In 2017, over 200 SABIS and non-sabis students from 26 nationalities around the world travelled to Bath, England, where they enjoyed an unforgettable summer packed with cultural, historical and educational experiences, fun activities, and morning academic classes. The 11 th annual SABIS Educational Summer Camp overview is a tribute to this incredible summer and a great way to keep those wonderful memories alive forever. I want to express my sincere gratitude for all your cooperation and assistance during this valuable journey. Your immediate response at all times to solve issues in addition to taking care of my son when he was ill, is remarkable. Every single one of the staff was very prompt and helpful. Aisha Jibreel - Summer Camp Parent from Abu Dhabi, UAE (SIS-YAS) I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you! It is your effort, dedication, and commitment that make this a wonderful, fun-filled learning experience to all the kids! Once again, thank you so much for everything! Robin Diau - Summer Camp Parent from Dubai, UAE (ISC-DIP)

WHY ASHWICKE HALL SCHOOL? Ashwicke Hall School is set in 148 acres of verdant English countryside, just outside the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath. Housed on the stunning Ashwicke Hall Estate, the campus is located approximately 7 miles from the city of Bath in South West England. London and Oxford are just 90 minutes away, and the school is also within easy distance of Shakespeare country making it ideally placed for some of Britain s top destinations. Through the carefully tailored SABIS curriculum, Ashwicke Hall School provides the knowledge, skills, and experiences to gain entry to and excel in the next academic level. As well as all the educational facilities that are required for the academic sessions that take place throughout the camp, spacious classrooms and computer laboratory are equipped with cutting-edge IT tools. Teachers with extensive experience in the SABIS Educational System offer campers a comfortable and smooth transition from classrooms at their home school to classrooms at Ashwicke Hall School. I loved horseback riding, basketball, football, and tennis among other activities. The science club was very beneficial. I also loved all the theme parks we visited. I made friends from India, Jordan, Oman, and Germany whom I will never forget. Sileem Elkhodary - ISC-6 October, Egypt I never wanted the camp to come to an end. Throughout the 9 years I spent at my home school, I have never had such wonderful experiences like the ones I had during my -4week stay at this camp. I will never ever forget it! Ahmad Darkazally, Non-SABIS student from Dubai, UAE

I joined the camp because I wanted to try something new on my own. I learned to make my own bed and keep my room organized and tidy! I also learned to rely on myself. The knowledge I have learned is fascinating. Mariam Al Horoub, ISC-Abu Dhabi, U.A.E. DAILY LIFE AT THE SUMMER CAMP Thank you for everything you have done for my daughter during the last 4 weeks. She enjoyed it very much. Barbara Wagenbach - Summer Camp Parent from Frankfurt, Germany (Internationale Schule Frankfurt Rhein-Main) Since 2006, the SABIS Educational Summer Camp has combined learning, cultural enrichment, and enjoyable on-campus and off-campus activities. In the morning after breakfast, students have classes, and in the afternoon, after lunch, they choose from a wide range of on-campus and off-campus activities tailored carefully to suit all tastes and ages. The academic schedule consists of four hours of lessons from Monday to Friday. Children choose two courses from a wide range of offerings including English, French, Arabic, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, and SAT courses as well as some newly offered courses including Public Speaking, Coding, and a University Orientation Programme. After lunch, campers participate in a wide range of activities carried out by different clubs such as Science, Hiking, and Chess Clubs. Other campers choose to prepare for the talent show. They also enjoy a big variety of on-campus activities such as sports, music, and arts as well as off-campus activities such as horseback riding, hiking, trips, and excursions. BBQ events take place every Friday. As for all-day trips, they take place each Saturday and Sunday.

DORM LIFE During the course of the SABIS Educational Summer Camp, students live in the Ashwicke Hall School campus dorms. Boys and girls live in separate dorms in rooms that are designed to house up to four students. Students are responsible for keeping their rooms clean and tidy under the supervision of a well-trained SABIS staff member called House Parent, who lives in apartments attached to the dorms and is responsible for the wellbeing of all boarding students at all times. Each student has a bed, desk, chair, and lockable wardrobe. Bed linen is changed once a week, and there is a timetable for personal laundry. All the rooms are cleaned daily by school staff, Monday through Friday. Even though I had been to Ashwicke Hall School as a student in the Study Abroad Programme, the summer camp experience was very different. It prepared me for the real life and transformed me into a more mature person. Valeriya Akimova, ISC-Dubai, U.A.E. Each dormitory has a common room, a shared space which is equipped with an LCD television, a DVD player, and recreational facilities such as a pool table, two computers, and a lounge area. The televisions all have access to satellite channels which are controlled centrally to ensure appropriateness. Students and House Parents spend quality time socializing and relaxing in this room. Life in the dorms is an exceptional experience for students. As each day passes, students begin to feel a strong sense of responsibility, discipline, and independence, as well as the capacity to build everlasting friendships. I would like to sincerely thank you for the Summer Camp. We appreciate the care and attention that you have and still are extending to our boys. Fadi Al Faqih - Summer Camp non-sabis Parent from Amman, Jordan (non SABIS school)

ON-CAMPUS ACTIVITIES This was a real adventure. The time I spent here at Ashwicke Hall School were the best weeks in my life. I really wish I could do everything all over again. We visited the most beautiful historical places. It was amazing to meet people from different nationalities. Farah Haidar, ISC-Choueifat, Lebanon Music Art Fun, Games & BBQ Debate Sports Talent Show Science Club

Tuck Shop Cooking Club My daughter enjoyed the camp a lot and gave us very positive feedback on the trip. She learned so many new things and left the camp with nice memories. We would like to thank each and every one of you for your support. There are many wonderful people in the camp who made the trip educational and enjoyable. We will most likely send our daughter and her brother to the camp next year. Abdalla Nouri - Summer Camp Parent from Dubai, UAE (ISC-Dubai) Chess Club Academics Public Speaking Hiking Club Coding
