Letter from the President Dear Texas Charter Schools, I would like to welcome your participation in Texas only statewide academic & athletic league exclusively serving charter schools. This past year, TCSAAL was honored to serve well over 100 schools and thousands of charter school students through its broad variety of academic & athletic leagues. Having grown from serving 17 charter schools in its inaugural year, and looking forward to its 7 th year of operation, TCSAAL hopes to continue to grow and expand all over the state in order to involve more charter school students in the enriching extracurricular activities that we offer. When I meet with schools considering joining TCSAAL, the question the school always asks me is how participating with the Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League will help their school. Our member schools tell us that they have seen an increase in overall school pride and drastic improvements in behavior as well as grades from participating students. I have also learned that schools that participate in TCSAAL have seen an improvement in parental involvement with the school. As an added benefit to students, TCSAAL awards all-region and all-state teams, which help build students resumes as they apply for colleges and jobs. If your school has participated with us in the past, we look forward to working with you again next school year. If you have yet to participate, I invite you to give TCSAAL a close look and become one of our member schools in the 2013-2014 school year. Thank you, John H. TCSAAL Principles TCSAAL works exclusively with charter schools giving us an unmatched understanding of the needs and challenges facing charter schools. TCSAAL was formed by a charter school graduate who has a comprehensive understanding of charter schools. TCSAAL provides your students the opportunity to compete for a statewide championship against the other top charter schools across the state. By offering a seasonal structure that includes local divisional play with a regional round of playoffs and then followed by a state round. TCSAAL only hires highly trained and certified referees in order to offer your students the most qualified officiating available to schools in the state. TCSAAL utilizes a full time staff unlike many other leagues. Each staff member is assigned different regions across the state so they can build relationships with their schools and be readily available at any time to serve the needs of those schools. TCSAAL keeps you in the know. We utilize a website and publish a weekly sports page (newsletter) which provides information on upcoming events, standings, stats and other relevant information. TCSAAL provides the easiest possible facilitation of extracurricular activities. Our full time staff takes care of all scheduling, divisioning, and assigning, leaving you and your staff more time to focus on what they do best. TCSAAL offers an All-Regional and All- State award program for high school students, enabling qualifying students to improve their college applications and future resumes. TCSAAL generally follows NFHS rules and regulations, providing a more accurate representation of athletics in traditional public schools. TCSAAL takes pride in each of their member campuses, and works with each of them directly and often daily to ensure the most fluid facilitation of extracurricular competition programs. will help improve school pride, students grades, behaviors and overall well-being teamwork and physical activity. It also will enhance your schools ability to recruit Page 3 tudents by providing them a wide variety of extracurricular activities. What is TCSAAL? The Texas Charter School Academic & Athletic League (TCSAAL) is a statewide athletic and academic competition league exclusively serving Texas Charter schools. Founded in 2007, TCSAAL serves students in grades 4 through 12 in four different age categories. The league offers a wide variety of academic & athletic activities including basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer, track & field, chess, science olympiad, spelling bee, math olympiad and arts competitions. Our participation in TCSAAL bridges our academic and extracurricular pursuits in a global way. Membership in TCSAAL has enabled us to meet our commitment to wellness, academic prowess, and metropolitan learning. Roderick Roberts, College Counselor, Pegasus School of Liberal Arts & Sciences, Dallas, TX www.texascharter.org

Who Does TCSAAL Serve? TCSAAL serves any charter school in the state of Texas. We do not serve traditional public schools or private schools. We serve 4th 12th graders in four different age groupings, 4th 6th, 6th 8th, 9th 10th and 11th 12th grade. Individuals can participate up in grade but not down. TCSAAL League Structure When you register for an athletic activity, your team will be placed into a division in their geographical area. All regular season games are played against teams amongst their division. Regular seasons are made up of 8 games. (11th 12th Basketball plays a 10 game season, and Track & Field is 3 meets) The top 2 teams from each division advance to the playoffs. When the state has 3 or more divisions in an activity the top 2 teams from each division will first play into a regional round of the playoffs, with the Regional Champions advancing to the State Playoffs. When there are 2 or less divisions in a sport in the state then there will not be a regional round and the top 2 teams from each division will advance directly to the State Playoffs. ed by TCSAAL Academics & Arts Math Olympiad Chess Spelling Bee Science Olympiad Drama Choir The league has been instrumental in bringing the charter schools in Houston together on a regular basis through organized activities, and as an extra bonus, we have loved having a Statewide playoff system that has helped bring the state together. I love having all of the charter schools participating together. -Ed Socha Administrator Houston Heights, What's Included in your Participation Fees? TCSAAL takes care of scheduling seasons, hiring referees, and organizing playoffs. You will never be charged extra for advancing to the playoffs. In all activities except basketball and volleyball, TCCSAAL will also provide the facilities for your games or competitions. If you need us to book your basketball and volleyball facilities for your home games, we will do that for an additional fee.
