North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University Spring 2017 Commencement Ceremony May 13, 2017 Time and Place of Commencement There will be two commencement ceremonies for spring 2017. Both ceremonies will take place at the Greensboro Coliseum, located at 1921 West Gate City Boulevard, on Saturday, May 13, 2017. The Undergraduate ceremony line-up will be at 8:00 a.m. and the processional will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. The Coliseum doors will open at approximately 7:30 a.m. The Graduate ceremony line up will be at 12:00 p.m. and the processional will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. Directions to the Greensboro Coliseum can be found at: http://www.greensborocoliseum.com/guest_services/directions. Spring applicants must be enrolled in the final courses required to complete their degree. You must participate in the commencement ceremony the semester you complete your degree requirements. Conduct Commencement is a ceremonious and solemn event. The University expects full cooperation from all participants, including graduates and their invited guests. Graduates are required to stay for the entire commencement ceremony. Disorderly or disruptive conduct will not be tolerated and the University reserves the right to remove disruptive individuals from the Commencement Ceremony. Graduate Breakfast A breakfast will be served for all approved degree candidates on Friday, May 12, 2017 in the Alumni- Foundation Event Center. The doors will open at 8:00 a.m. Come enjoy breakfast, giveaways, special performances and much more. The breakfast attire is casual. Students without proper academic regalia will not be allowed to participate.
Women wear dark dresses, dark shoes, no high collars or bows at neck and no corsages or jewelry on the robe. Men wear white shirts, dark tie, dark trousers, socks, and dress shoes. Cap and Gown Regalia ordered and paid for during Grad Fair (March 22, 2017 thru March 23. 2017, 10 a.m. 6 p.m. in the Barnes and Noble University Bookstore) will be available for pick up the same day. Any student, who fails to order during the Grad Fair, may still obtain their cap and gown through the Barnes & Noble University bookstore through Friday, May 12, 2017. Nanoengineering Rehabilitation Counseling and Counselor Education Distribution of Latin Honor Cords to Undergraduates Undergraduate students will receive their Latin Honor cords, if eligible, from the Office of the Registrar starting Monday, May 8, 2017. The qualifying GPAs listed below apply to students entering A&T prior to May 15, 2012 Grade Point Average Honors 3.00 to 3.24 Cum Laude 3.25 to 3.49 Magna Cum Laude 3.50 to 4.00 Summa Cum Laude The qualifying GPAs listed below apply to students entering A&T after May 15, 2012 Grade Point Average Honors 3.25 to 3.49 Cum Laude 3.50 to 3.74 Magna Cum Laude 3.75 to 4.00 Summa Cum Laude All course hours attempted, excluding W (withdrawal grades), are included in the adjusted grade point average computation for honors. For example, if a course was repeated, both grades are used in the adjusted grade point average computation. The honors designation is determined based on the most current adjusted grade point average. Note: For transfer students see the Undergraduate Bulletin for eligibility requirements. Distribution of Commencement Participation Cards Approved undergraduate and graduate degree candidates will receive name cards from the Office of the Registrar starting Monday, May 8, 2017 through Saturday, May 13, 2017 (before line-up). Students without a name card will not be allowed to participate in the commencement ceremony. Duplicate name cards will not be printed. Commencement Participation Policy Commencement programs are scheduled each year, in December for fall and summer graduates and in May for spring graduates. Students must meet the following requirements to be eligible to participate in the ceremony: Have completed degree requirements the semester/session prior to the upcoming commencement ceremony for which they plan to participate; or Be enrolled in the final courses and/or academic activity necessary to complete degree requirements in the semester for which they plan to participate in the respective commencement.
In either scenario, all undergraduate students must submit an application for graduation to the Office of the Registrar, and graduate students to the Graduate School Office prior to the graduation application deadline for either May or December graduation. The student must be "cleared" by the Registrar's/Graduate School Office to be approved to participate in the commencement activities. Fees Fees and fines, including the $60.00 or $80.00 (late) non-refundable graduation application processing fee, must be paid, and library books must be returned to the library. Any delinquent accounts in the Treasurer's Office will cause the diploma to be withheld until the account is cleared. Diplomas Diplomas will be mailed to all graduates who have satisfied their academic and financial obligations to the University within 60 days after commencement. Compliance with the law is essential and will be enforced if necessary. Violations can result in a degree candidate's removal from commencement. Voluntary compliance is the responsible, mature, and preferable conduct to ensure that commencement will be dignified and memorable. It is a distinguishing event in the degree candidate's life and a credit to the University.
