On February 25 th, 2017 The Chesapeake Science Point (CSP) Public Charter School s high school math team won the Anne Arundel Community College s (AACC) High School Math Competition s season-long competition for the sixth year in a row! This astounding winning streak is even more impressive considering that this is only the seventh year that CSP has offered high school to Anne Arundel County Public School students. On the other side of the AACC campus, the Middle school teammates were also competing in the MathCOUNTS Annapolis Chapter Regional Competitions and won overall as the First Place Team! Adding, individuals also placed and the team qualifies for the MathCOUNTS State Competitions coming up in April 2017! This marks the 9th year in a row that CSP s Middle School math team has earned the award for being the first place team at this event. This incredible winning streak is a strong testament to the hard work put in by all the students, their coaches, and the strong support the CSP math team receives from the students families and school leadership! At the AACC math competition, CSP senior Anthony Krieger and CSP freshman Oumarr Bah were two of only six students from today s competition to earn a perfect score in the individual round, earning them an apple for the AACC Math Professors that organize this competition. Their score s combined with their teammate, Benjamin Kelm, also a graduating senior, to have CSP in a 3-way tie for first place after the individual round. The team of Anthony, Ben and Oumarr were joined by CSP seniors Matthew Boyer and Nina Smilek in the team round, where they answered three of the six very challenging questions correctly to earn CSP a Second Place finish in the fifth and final competition of the season. The CSP Team s legendary status continues with this 6 th consecutive overall First Place finish in the five-event competition season! As season long individual results were announced, students with top scoring results earn the Donald Wertz Memorial Award, including their choice of an advanced mathematics book to commemorate the award. CSP s Anthony Krieger was the competitions highest scoring individual for the year, correctly answering 29 out of the possible 30 individual round questions over the five competitions in this year AACC High School Math Competition season, a fantastic result considering that the next closest student from any of the fourteen schools competing this season scored 25 correct!
