Oak Hill Winter Chess Club and Tournament Training with Sponsored by the Oak Hill PTA Chess club is taught by experienced Silver Knights instructors using a curriculum developed by National Masters. Each weekly session is a mix of learning and play. Playing chess is a great way to develop a child s critical thinking skills, sportsmanship, and patience all while having fun! Chess Club Details: All grades and skill levels welcome. Dates: Club meets every Monday that school is in session, starting on 2/13 and ending on 5/22. Time: 3:40-4:40 PM A multi-program discount is available! All equipment provided. Club does not meet on 2/20, 4/10, and 4/17. Tuition: $183 for 12 weeks. Club meets in the cafeteria. In Tournament Training, every week students play a game against a player close to their skill level. The game is then analyzed in a group setting with a highly-rated chess coach and peers. It s a great next step for students who really love chess club! Beginning tournament players learn how to take chess notation, play with a clock, and the value of game analysis. Intermediate and advanced players get serious games against tough opposition and analysis from master-level coaches. Tournament Training Details: All grades welcome. Students must be able to intentionally checkmate an opponent to be eligible. Tuition: $183 for students also enrolled in the Oak Hill chess club, $225 for all others. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION CONTEST DEADLINE FEBRUARY 17, 2017 The deadline for the last Box Tops for Education submission of the 2016-17 school year is fast approaching. Please get your box tops turned in by February 17. Your box tops should be placed in a sealed plastic bag with the name of your child and teacher. The bags should be placed in the marked box at the school entrance. These box tops provide vital funding for Oak Hill! The class that turns in the most will be announced on WOAK and will get extra recess!!

Rachel Carson Middle School Rising 7th Grade Parent Orientation February 9, 2017 at 7PM Snow Date February 16th Do you have questions about middle school courses? Do you want to know about a typical day for a middle school student? Please join us the Carson staff for an informational night to learn more about the educational curriculum and programs Carson has to offer students. Teachers will share information regarding curriculum and elective programs to help you and your child make an informed decision regarding course selection. We will also showcase other opportunities for students including support programs and our extensive afterschool program. End the evening with a walk around the school to see some classrooms, meet elective teachers and view locker pod areas. 6:15 PM Breakout Session 7:00 PM Main Session Gymnasium Special Education Parent Session Media Center Additional Information Parking will be provided at Open Door Church where a shuttle will be provided. Elementary School Visits Carson MS Counselors are scheduled to visit all direct feeder elementary school to discuss course selection. Please note: This evening is geared for parents. All feeder elementary schools will be bringing students to Carson between February 15th and 17th for a student orientation and tour.
