Senior Individual Meetings O Counselors are meeting with seniors individually to review their post high school plans O Some students and parents also met with their counselors over the summer O Counselors want to make sure that all students have a post high school plan in place and that they have done what they need to achieve their goal. Taking the Accuplacer O Test coordinator: Susie O Brien Susan_S_Obrien@mcpsmd.org O The Accuplacer is produced by College Board, the makers of the SAT, PSAT and AP exams. OThe Accuplacer is a test widely used throughout the country and in all public Maryland colleges to appropriately place students in college courses.
Why a College Test Now? O By taking the Accuplacer on October 19 th, DHS seniors will have time to work towards improving their placement scores before taking the final Accuplacer in February. O Many students do not realize that not all MC offered courses will translate to college credit.
How Does My Child s Reading Affect Their College Placement? Accuplacer Reading/Writing scores determine if students will take: O O college level classes that will transfer to a 4 year institution, OR developmental classes that do not earn transferable credit - these concentrate on building college level skills.
Accuplacer Plan for Success O Registered seniors will take the Accuplacer here at DHS on October 19. O Results will be used to help student improve where needed. O A final free Accuplacer will be given in February. O Students will know their results in time to register for the appropriate classes for the fall.
CCRCA State of MD legislation that requires all juniors to be tested for college/career readiness: MCPS chose to test on either SAT/ACT/Accuplacer. If students don t test ready, we are providing support and then retesting.
College/Career Ready SAT: 500 on reading and math ACT: 21 Accuplacer: 79 in reading, 90 in sentence skills, 62 in math
CCRCA OIf your senior didn t test last year, he/she will be taking the Accuplacer on 10/19. OIf your senior didn t test ready in English and/or math, he/she took an Accuplacer diagnostic today. O Lunch and after school practice sessions before retesting on 10/19.
