THURSDAY, MAY 11 th - Hours 1 and 2 Finals Only MANDATORY Class Day rehearsal in main gym after 2 nd hour final (9:30am) MANDATORY CLASS DAY REHEARSAL (May 11 th ) - Following the 2 nd hour final (9:30), seniors will report to the main gym for a mandatory Class Day rehearsal. At this time, seniors will be seated in their assigned seats (which will be the same for Graduation) and be led through the sequence of events for the Class Day ceremony that takes place the following morning. Since the seniors have won the Class Competition for 2016-2017, they will attend a party at 68 s Inside Sports. Two Guys and a Grill will cater lunch and multiple activities will be available (dodge ball, obstacle course, flag football, soccer, batting cages (free), etc.). Students will receive their time capsules that they put together their freshmen year if they attended a Blue Valley high school. This event is free to seniors and is funded by BVHS Student Council. Students will be allowed to provide their own transportation. If your student does not drive or you do not feel comfortable with them riding with a friend, we will have a school van available to transport kids. Please contact Mollie McNally in advance if your student will need transportation. Those students needing transportation should meet at the front entrance of the school following the Class Day rehearsal and the van will take them over and bring them back at the conclusion of the event. CLASS DAY (May 12 th ) - Families are HIGHLY encouraged to attend. The ceremony runs from 9:00-11:00 a.m. in the BVHS main gym. All graduating seniors are expected to attend. Seniors should report to the auxiliary gym at 8:15 a.m. in caps and gowns. This will be a great opportunity for you to see where your child will be seated for the graduation ceremony since it will stay the same when we are at Municipal Auditorium. Class Day is a more personal affair than commencement typically tends to be. It will include speeches by students, presentation of memorial scholarships, retirement scholarships, Superintendent s Award, recognition of 4.0+ weighted, presentation of the senior gift, presentation of Class Key to future Tigers, KSHSAA Citizenship Scholarship, performance by the BVHS senior choral members, recognition of the PTO Teacher of The Year, recognition of foreign exchange students, the presentation of the Senior-Faculty Challenge Trophy and, unique to BVHS, the ribbon cutting ceremony (each senior gets a piece of the black and gold ribbon.) *Following Class Day, seniors MUST stay for a brief Graduation Rehearsal. We ask for your patience and understanding in waiting to meet and take pictures with your student until the graduation rehearsal concludes.*

GRADUATION (May 14 th ) - Graduation will be on Sunday, May 14 th, at 1 p.m. at Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, MO. GRADUATION ATTIRE - Graduation is considered a more formal event. Gentleman should wear long slacks, a collared shirt, and a tie. Women should wear either long slacks or an appropriate dress/skirt. Choose your footwear carefully as you will be processing up ramps from the lower level to the main arena and walking up stairs and across the stage to receive your diploma. Wear caps and gowns. - MORTARBOARDS (CAPS) may NOT be decorated in any fashion. - Honor Cords- students may wear honor cords that have been received for commitment and achievement in a school recognized activity. Only cords from nationally recognized honor societies will be noted in the program. SENIOR LETTERS You received a request from our PTO Senior Activities Coordinator to write your senior a letter. These letters will be given to the seniors as they are in the staging room prior to processing out for graduation. This is a very special moment for the seniors as they read the words from the parents and families. IF YOU HAVE NOT SUBMITTED YOUR LETTER, PLEASE DO SO. It is unfortunate when we have students who do not have a letter from a family member. We realize that you may do something prior to graduation similar to this so maybe just send in a simple card or note so that they have something to open. Those letters should be dropped off in the front office ASAP as they were due on April 6 th. TRANSPORTATION/PARKING GRADUATES - Due to parking limitations, ALL graduates will be REQUIRED to ride a ONE WAY schoolprovided bus to the graduation ceremony. Any circumstances that would prevent this should be presented to Mrs. McNally by Wednesday, May 10 th. - Graduates are to meet in the BVHS PAC at 9:45 a.m. the morning of graduation. - Seniors will view the senior class video put together by members of the senior class. - Following the video, Mr. Dalton will dismiss them to buses. Buses will be divided into alpha order for roll call purposes. - The buses will depart at 10:30 a.m. and will not be able to wait for late students. FAMILIES and FRIENDS Parking rates vary depending on location utilized. However, please plan to pay for parking at all downtown locations. Rates will range from $6 to $12 total for three hours of parking in most locations. The Barney Allis Plaza lot; directly across from Municipal Auditorium, currently costs $3 per hour for parking. Additional information and a map of parking near the area is attached to this email.

WHERE GRADUATES WILL MEET BEFORE and AFTER - Graduates will be staged in the Exhibition Hall on the bottom floor of Municipal Auditorium. The processional will begin from there. - The recessional will lead graduates back to the Exhibition Hall where they will receive their diplomas (if all fees are paid). SEATING - Doors will open at Municipal for seating at NOON. - Seating is first come, first serve. - There is plenty of seating at Municipal; therefore, tickets are not required. - Accessible seating for guests will be available on the Loge level. Accessible ramps and elevators are available to access the Loge seating. AFTER THE CEREMONY - All parents are asked to meet the graduates following the ceremony on the top level of Barney Allis Plaza located across 13 th street north of Municipal Auditorium. It is imperative that you do not meet your graduates in the Exhibition Hall or Arena Foyer, as it will cause congestion and difficulty for all families. - A large (Circus Size) tent will be erected on Barney Allis Plaza along with chairs for those who will require seating. - Barney Allis Plaza also features Handicapped Accessibility. - Graduates will head over to Barney Allis Plaza after they have picked up their diploma from the staging room on the bottom level of Municipal. PICTURES - Parents may take photos. - GradImages will be present to photograph all graduates as they cross the stage and when they come off the stage. Get pre-registered to receive the proofs of your graduation pictures. By pre-registering, you will insure that you receive digital proofs within 48 hours of the ceremony. There is no obligation to purchase prints when you pre-register. Without a pre-registered email address, you will only receive your proofs via standard mail within 2-3 weeks of the ceremony. CLICK HERE TO PRE-REGISTER FILMING - Parents may film the graduation from their seats. Harvest Communications will film the graduation and DVDs can be purchased. - Order Forms are attached. -

FEES, FINES, and HOLDS - Graduates with outstanding fees, fines, or holds will not be able to pick up their official diploma following the graduation ceremony. Seniors will be given a Senior Checkout Sheet during Tiger Time on April 20 th which will need to be completed by May 11 th. The possible fines, fees, and holds are as follows: o Textbooks- damaged or not returned o Library books not returned or library accounts with unpaid late fines o Unreturned uniform/equipment for a sport or activity. Those students still participating in a spring sport at the time of graduation will have a hold automatically on their account until the conclusion of the sport when the uniform/equipment is returned. o Negative balances on lunch accounts. o Unpaid academic fees (elective courses mainly) - Parents and students are strongly encouraged to check with the Bookkeeper and on their ParentVue account to see if there are currently any outstanding fees. Holds on uniforms will not be reflected on ParentVue. If your student has finished up a sport/activity that involved a uniform or equipment, you can touch base with the coach/sponsor to determine if your student returned everything. FIRST CLASS TRADITION Blue Valley High School is very proud of its tradition of having a first-class commencement. Our students, staff, and families continuously make Blue Valley High School s commencement one of the most respectful and classy ceremonies across the metro. In order to keep this tradition alive, students are asked not to decorate their mortarboards (caps) and noisemakers are strictly prohibited by students and audience members. Please remember that all families would like to see AND HEAR their senior s name as they cross the stage. Excessive noise for the senior before their child could greatly distract and take away from their senior s moment and is not appropriate. Please be respectful of all of our graduation participants and their families.

Families and Friends of Blue Valley Graduates The Blue Valley School District looks forward to our commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 13 and Sunday, May 14 at the historic Municipal Auditorium located at 301 W 13th St in Kansas City, Missouri. The arena is located in the heart of downtown; to assist you in finding a suitable parking space, we have provided this map. There are a number of other activities taking place downtown during graduation weekend and, depending on the time of day; parking will be at a premium. Please note that parking lots on the map are all marked with a P. Yellow lots are parking garages while blue represents surface lots; each is marked with the number of parking spaces. As you make your weekend plans, we would like to offer the following guidance: 1. Please arrive early. The doors will open one hour before the processional; the only exception being BV Southwest with the doors opening 45-minutes prior to the ceremony due to another graduation earlier in the afternoon. It is imperative that families do not cut their arrival too short. 2. Feel free to drop your passengers off at the auditorium prior to parking your car. 3. Consider carpooling, however, please note many lots have as low as a 6 6 maximum vehicle height for entry. 4. Be prepared to pay with credit card or cash depending on the parking lot; prices range from $8 to $20 for event parking. 5. Consider utilizing valet parking at the area hotels. There are five large hotels within a block of the auditorium that provide valet parking for non-guests. However, understand that these prices are higher than the self-park lots. 6. The reunification point for graduates and their families will be directly north of Municipal Auditorium on the Barney Allis Plaza grounds. Please do not make plans to meet your graduate after the ceremony in the foyer of the auditorium. 7. We understand that parking can be a challenge in the downtown Kansas City area. However, in keeping with Blue Valley s commitment to allow an unlimited number of family members and friends to attend commencement ceremonies, we are using Municipal Auditorium as opposed to our gymnasiums or other facilities located in Johnson County. We appreciate your cooperation and wish you the very best during this important weekend for our graduates and their families. Once again, please plan on arriving downtown as early as possible to ensure the best possible experience.
