4 OUTSTANDING HEADS Outstanding Heads As Aristotle said: the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. Being part of a community of three Schools provides strength to our educational offering. Each School has a Head, who makes sure that a pupil s life at school is rewarding, successful and enjoyable. The combined experience and expertise of all three Heads, means that we are able to harness an individual s talent to create a learning environment that suits everyone.

OUTSTANDING HEADS 5 Emma Smith Head of Stamford Nursery School and Stamford Junior School (Girls and Boys 3-11) I believe it is essential that from an early age we encourage children to develop a desire for learning and it is through an exciting and engaging curriculum that we can achieve this. We strive to place your child at the centre of everything we do, and provide a stimulating learning environment. Vicky Buckman Head of Stamford High School (Girls 11-18) At Stamford High School we believe that anything is possible; we want our girls to be enthusiastic, hard-working, determined and ready to get involved with everything we offer. We encourage them to think independently, to take ownership of their learning and to aspire to be the very best they can be. Within a sound framework of pastoral care and development, our girls know that they have the skills and attributes to face the future with confidence. Nick Gallop Head of Stamford School (Boys 11-18) Stamford School has been educating boys for over 475 years. Today, we maintain our traditional values but with a very modern outlook. We understand how to build in our pupils a love of learning and develop intellectual curiosity, to instil the values of teamwork and competition on the sports field and through adventure and to fire imaginations through music, art and drama.

6 WELCOME TO HISTORIC STAMFORD Outstanding location Stamford was named the Best Place to Live in Britain in the Sunday Times.

WELCOME TO HISTORIC STAMFORD 7 The Schools are a part of the great heritage of Stamford and a symbol of its vibrancy and evolution. The Schools have been established in Stamford since 1532, undergoing many changes but consistently providing a first-class education for their children. Today the Schools remain interwoven with Stamford life, to which our students, teachers and parents contribute greatly.

8 INTRODUCTION Introduction The school sends out an impressive number of teams and we sensed that virtually everyone who wants to play for a team gets a chance. When asked what was the best thing about the school, sport figured highly. The Good Schools Guide Hockey at SES Hockey is one of the main sports at all three of our schools together with rugby and netball and cricket/tennis in the summer. The girls compete in the Autumn term and the boys programme is predominantly in the spring with pre-season in the Autumn. Coaching continues throughout the whole academic year. The schools aim to allow all students to represent the school so teams can be fielded from G to First XI. There is a very strong fixture list with block fixtures against local and more distant schools. The Head of Hockey will be able to coach boys and girls of all ages and to instigate a development philosophy and a style of play throughout the schools. During these games sessions, where possible, the members of staff who will be taking the team will also be present to support the coaching. This organisation also makes better use of the schools two artificial floodlit pitches. In addition to the games sessions, team train after school. The school recently opened a new Sports Centre which has a modern fitness suite as well as a 25m pool. There are two sports halls, one of which is equipped for indoor hockey which is coached throughout the Autumn Term. A great opportunity exists for the right candidate to create a development pathway and a culture within hockey that supports continuity, participation and excellence within the sport.
