Why School Accreditation? All Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Grand Rapids are to be appropriately accredited by policy. First: Assurance of Quality Accreditation certifies and assures that the school meets or exceeds all criteria set out as defining an excellent school. Second: Self Study The procedure for becoming accredited involves a thorough evaluation of all aspects of the school. The evaluation process itself is advantageous to the school. Third: PA 25 Michigan Public Act 25 requires public schools to become accredited. Catholic Schools are to ensure that the formation given in them is, in its academic standards, at least as outstanding as that in other schools in the area. (Canon 806.2) Fourth: Enlightening Experience The accreditation process provides principals and teachers an opportunity to visit other non-public schools as part of an external evaluation team. Participation on a site team evaluation is not only a professional service to colleagues, but also an enlightening experience for the participant.
