Sawchuk - Hello Parents/Guardians: With the 2015-16 school year quickly winding down, I would like to share some important points. This year we will graduate the Class of 2016 on Saturday, June 25 th at 1:00 P.M. at Hudson Valley Community College in the McDonough Sports Complex. Parking is free for our parents and guests. Complete details are posted on the web page. As always, I thank you for your continued support. Your Partner in Education, John P. Sawchuk VERY IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: There are no classes on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 due to Common Core Exams. Only students taking exams will report to school. The regular bus schedule will be running. Please refer to page 2 for further details. Please understand at the High School level, opting out for a Common Core Exam or Regents Exam is not an option. The State of New York has made these exams a graduation requirement for all students. By opting out, a student will not be able to graduate. IMPORTANT NOTICE!!! There will be NO student parking at Columbia High School on the last three days of classes: Thursday, June 9 Friday, June 10 Monday, June 13 A location in the lower lot will be designated for student drop-offs by parents in the morning. PAGE 2 C O L UMB IA HIGH SC HO O L COMMON CORE LETTER TO PARENTS/GUARDIANS Dear Parents/Guardians: Classes at Columbia High School will not meet on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 due to the administration of the New York State Common Core Regents exams in Algebra II. Only those students scheduled to take this exam are expected to be present. Your child s teacher has provided specific information about the required exams. If you have any questions about the specific exams your child is scheduled to take, please do not hesitate to contact his or her school counselor or Mathematics teacher. On the morning of June 1, 2016, students enrolled in the following classes should be in the main lobby by 7:30 AM: Mrs. Hladik s Period 2 Algebra II Honors class Mr. Monuteaux s Period 1 Algebra II Regents class Period 2 Algebra II Regents class Period 7 Algebra II Regents class Mrs. Schulz s Period 2 Algebra II Regents class Period 3 Algebra II Regents class Mrs. Thompson s Period 2 Algebra II Honors class Additionally, our math teachers would like to remind you that all students enrolled in these courses should have a TI-83 or TI-84 graphing calculator. The opportunity for your child to be successful on the June exam, and in his or her Algebra II course, is greatly increased with access to his or her own graphing calculator on a daily basis. Please remind your child to bring his or her graphing calculator to the exam. If he or she does not have one, a spare will be provided on the day of the exam. Normal bus routes will transport students to the high school in the morning for this exam. VOLUME 11, ISSUE 5 PAGE 3 Regents Testing Status The EG School District will not be holding summer school. Our Guidance Staff will be contacting you before the end of the school year about your child s individual needs. Varying school districts will be offering summer school programs on a tuition basis. For further information, check the CHS web page at a later date. If you have any questions, please contact your child s guidance counselor. We will be a Regents Testing Site. Regents exams will be given on Wednesday and Thursday, August 17th and 18th, 2016. Review sessions prior to the exams will be provided, with details following at a later date and posted on the District web page. CAFETERIA OPEN TIMES: The CHS Cafeteria will be open on Regents and Midterm Exam Days (June 1, and 14-23) for: June 1st Breakfast 7:00AM-10:00AM June 14-21: Breakfast 7:00AM 8:00AM Light lunch. 11:00AM 12:00PM (pizza, basic sandwiches, salad, soup) PLEASE NOTE: The complete Bus Schedule during Regents/ Mid-Term Exams will be posted on the District Web Page in June. Luckily though, with the help of the internet, today s students have many options to practice tests and review key information. Here is a brief list of some locations where you might find some help. Check with your subject area teacher to see if he/she knows of any other sites that may help you. WWW.WCNY.ORG/ EDUCATION/ REGENTSREVIEW/ You may have seen this show on public television. On this website you can watch these videos and access PowerPoints on each subject. There are other resources available here as well. WWW.REGENTSPREP.ORG This site is one stop shopping for Regents Exam preparation. If you are not yet familiar with this site, you should check it out now. It has practice regents questions, essays, and review material. WWW.BARRONREGENTS.COM This review book company has a website. For $16.99 you get a one year subscription that gives you access to their entire database of New York State Regents prep tests in all regents subject areas. If you get it now you can also use it for next year s classes. In addition, you can do the following: - take complete past New York State Regents exams - select actual Regents questions by date or topic - receive immediate feedback including grades and answers to all questions with full explanations - note that all information is saved on a personal database for future review. WWW.NYSEDREGENTS.ORG The NYS Education Department s site. Here you can locate past Regents exams and curriculum. WWW.STUDYISLAND.COM You have to pay to use this site, but the cost is reasonable and you can use it throughout the school year. It may be something to consider for next school year. REGENTS / LOCAL EXAM TESTING TIMES June 1, and June 14 to June 23, 2016 All students MUST have their Student Identification Badge to enter a Regents or Local Exam. If a student lost or misplaced their Student Identification Badge, they must go to their Assistant Principal s office to receive one.

VOLUME 11, ISSUE 5 PAGE 7 English Regents Exam Review Classes May/June 2016 2:15-3:15 pm Review Classes have been sent out via the English Department. If you have any questions, please contact your student s English Teacher. INFORMATION REGARDING THE ELA COMMON CORE EXAM The English department are offering review classes to assist students in preparing for the two exams being offered for students within English 10H and English 11R classes. Please note that all teachers anticipate reviewing for final exams and the Common Core during class, but these review sessions will be held for additional review. Students are encouraged to attend any and all review classes! Students should bring a blue or black pen to both the ELA and Common Core no pencils are allowed. Please note that all students within English 11R classes will be taking an in-class Vocabulary, Greek & Latin Roots, and Grammar final exam on June 2nd. Students will be assessed on their knowledge and skills of various elements of the English curricula, including vocabulary, grammar, Greek and Latin roots, writing skills and reading comprehension. Students will be provided with review packets prior to the assessments to assist in their review of the materials covered on the exams. INFORMATION REGARDING 9 th and 10 th GRADE IN-CLASS FINAL EXAMS All freshmen and sophomores will be taking their English Language Arts final exams during English class during the week of June 6th. Students will be assessed on their knowledge and skills of various elements of the English curricula, including vocabulary, grammar, Greek and Latin roots, writing skills and reading comprehension. Students will be provided with review packets prior to the assessments to assist in their review of the material covered on the exams. Ms. Hannmann s French 3 reviews take place after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Ms. Zucker is available on Mondays and Tuesdays after school. She is also available on June 20th in the AM Please be sure to check with your foreign language teacher(s) for other review class times.

PAGE 8 C O L UMB IA HIGH SC HO O L Columbia High School East Greenbush, NY 12061 EXAMINATION SCHEDULE: JUNE 2016 June 1 Wednesday 8:00 a.m. Algebra II (Common Core) Gym (210) EXAM GUIDELINES All candidates for Regents/Common Core Exams are to be in the testing area and rooms at 7:30 a.m. for their morning exams and at 11:30 noon for the afternoon exams. Regents/Common Core Exams will begin at 8:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. Students may not leave the testing site before 10:00 and 2:00, respectively. The cafeteria (breakfast) will be open from 7:00am to 10:00am. **ELECTRONICS POLICY-- cell phones are not permitted in any testing site at any time during a Regents examination. If a student is found to be using a cell phone, including simply looking at it during an exam, the cell phone is to be confiscated. The student may be removed from the testing site and the student s test may be destroyed.** 12:00 p.m. Geometry (High School Students) - Gym (190) BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR JUNE 1, 2016 Common Core Exam Day is Wednesday, June 1 st. There will be no classes held at Columbia High School only. The rest of the school district will be in session. Only students taking the exam or Earth Science lab test are to come to CHS that day. Participating students will be notified of test times. Please note that students attending off-site programs must individually consult with their program teachers regarding course attendance. Students attending most VoTec programs are exempt from classes on that day. CHS Transportation for the June 1 st 2016 Common Core testing schedule is as follows: On June 1 st, regular morning buses will be running to get students taking the exam(s) to school There will be an 11:15 dismissal using the six late run buses There will be no VOTEC buses all day TecSmart and New Visions will run regular schedule and those students that do not drive will be taken home after their session There will be a 2:15 shuttle from CHS to Goff to take the regular Goff Dismissal bus home REGENTS Exams are in BOLD School exams are in Italics Final 5/12/2016
