Care for self, others, pets, property, etc. requires time and love, both of which are rare commodities in today s culture of busyness. Mark in his gospel reported Jesus as saying, you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.. You shall love your neighbour as yourself. Mark 12:30-31. Care for, being a subset of love, could therefore be inserted for love in this quote. I have just enjoyed 3 weeks of annual leave in which I was able to care for myself and some of my family. Most of the time was spent travelling around Ireland where I experienced life in a different context. It had been 6 years since my wife and I had taken a clean break from work and stopped to smell the roses and for this opportunity we are most thankful. I therefore appreciate the people who stepped in to take on the roles and responsibilities of the Principal and care for our school. Mrs Meredith Lockery, who is Tyndale s Director of Studies, and Miss Susan Hodgins, our Director of Early Learning jointly carried out the day to day duties. I remain grateful for the fact that I am surrounded by very capable people such as Meredith and Sues and all of the staff who helped them. Miss Lauren DeLaine is our chaplain. The role of chaplain is often misunderstood. Principally Lauren is here to care about your children. Like all staff employed here she is a member of a Christian Church and worships regularly. Lauren is, in fact, very heavily involved in her church s youth programme demonstrating that she is concerned for young people both at school and in the community. Lauren studied for her Bachelor of Applied Social Sciences at Tabor degree while supporting and caring for her two children. We are most thankful for Lauren as she brings a mixture of recent study, life experience and a keen sense of purpose to our school community. Her desire is to serve your children well; to, support a positive culture of healthy minds and bodies. Although employed for two days a week, she comes in from Tuesday to Thursday so that she can mix her parenting and work commitments effectively. Her special piece of scripture is Psalm 23. We trust a pray that Lauren enjoys her vocation here at Tyndale Christian School Murray Bridge and I encourage you to encourage your children to seek her out if they are having difficulty making sense of life issues. Access to the Chaplain is voluntary, i.e. children ask to see Lauren, discuss their issues in confidence and, where necessary, are referred on to other areas of professional help. Where family counselling may help a situation or carers need assistance then Lauren may advise of available services but would not be personally involved as the professional. Rev. GENERAL NEWS FUN RUN & RECONCILIATION RECOGNITION Esther and Katie from Year 11, who will later this year be trekking the Kokoda Trail, participated in the Aboriginal Veterans Commemorative Service. Located on the Torrens Parade Grounds, there our students took part in the recognition of the sacrifices made by Aboriginal soldiers during war-time. Esther and Katie met with dignitaries including Vietnam Veteran and Olympic Champion, John Kinsela. Esther and Katie were also one of our many recognised participants of the Deadly Fun Run. Which is held at Sturt s Reserve. Our students are still raising money to go participate in the Kokoda Trail Trek. You can help show your support by booking a ticket for the Kokoda Cabaret. SCHOOL NEWS Dear Families, The best gift any parent can give a child is the love of books and the joy and benefits of independent reading for fun. Children who read at home, or are read to, have a head start on reading success in school. Our school is participating in Scholastic Book Club this year. Up to twice a term, during the school year, I will send home a Club catalogue with a different selection of books offered for all ages. You ll find award-winning books and bestsellers, as well as old and new favourites. I recommend them because the books span a wide range of children s reading levels and interests and because they are inexpensive (some books cost as little as $2). It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class. You can place your child s order at scholastic.com.au/loop or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play. Owning your own books is something special! I hope that you will encourage your child to order books this year. Each order helps earn free books and teaching materials for our library, however there is never any obligation to order. I know of no better way to encourage reading than to allow children to choose the books they want to read. Sincerely, Mrs Sharron Videon Teacher/Library Coordinator TYNDALE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 136a Adelaide Road Murray Bridge 08 8531 3411 murraybridge@tyndale.sa.edu.au www.tyndale.sa.edu.au 5

SCHOOL NEWS NEW BELL, NEW CHIMES STRATHALBYN VISIT TO MURRAY BRIDGE We are excited to announce our school s new bell, intercom and security system that is currently being installed. This new system will introduce improved emergency communication across our entire campus. The bell will also feature new chimes for school period changes, such as recess and lunch. Information regarding the new chimes will be released soon. Last week the Year 1 class travelled to Tyndale Christian School Murray Bridge at the invitation of their Year 1 class. We were welcomed beautifully by Mrs Jansen and the class and we got to see their classroom. We looked at our uniforms and discussed what was the same and what was different about them. We also played a game of soccer together, led by Mr Snell. It was great fun and the final score was 1 all. After the soccer we shared a sausage sizzle lunch together and then spent playtime on a different playground. We finished off our visit by going for a walk to the Outdoor Classroom, and we saw some veggies, fruit trees, chickens and calves. We had a very enjoyable visit and we hope to return the favour next term, with a games circuit here at Strathalbyn.
