Call to Order- Greg Ransom Greg Ransom led the Athletic Council in a moment of silence for Caval Haylett, a Poughkeepsie basketball player that was killed last week. NYSPHSAA Office Report Robert Zayas Reviewed items for discussion and voting for the May 6, 2016 NYSPHSAA Meeting. The 1 st Cheerleading Championship was conducted in Syracuse, New York. A review of the Tennis Proposal is being discussed. The Strategic Planning Committee driven by the Membership is being planned to meet in April 2016.

Section 5 Athletics has asked NYSPHSAA to review Private School participation in the NYSPHSAA Championships. 8. Combining of Teams Greg Ransom Combining of Teams Amendment reviewed by Tim Bult. Motion by Tim Bult, 2 nd by Toni Woody, to approve discussion by the Athletic Council regarding Time Frame and extending circumstances and hardship issues were discussed. All in favor. Motion carried. Motion by John Landro, 2 nd by Mike Bellarosa. All in favor. Motion carried to approve the following Combining of Teams for 2016. Roscoe/Downsville with Livingston Manor in Girls Golf. Motion by John Landro, 2 nd by Rosario Agostaro, to approve the following Combining of Teams for the Fall of 2016. All in favor. Motion carried. 12. Winter Chair Reports: a. Basketball Boys Fred Ahart Congratulations to the Section IX Champions. Our teams represented Section IX with honor and dignity. b. Basketball Girls Steve Boucher The Girls Committee has requested the following for the 2016-2017 season and will be discussed at the NYSPHSAA Spring Meeting Back to the Leagues. 1. Use of pink and white basketball at anytime. 2. Time out changes (4 full and 2 30 seconds) 3. Spalding balls and the use of them Sections and beyond. If the host school does not use them the Athletic Council could censure, place sanction or place the school on probation. NYSPHSAA could void the contract with the Section. c. Ice Hockey Frank Alessandrino d. Alpine Skiing Janet Carey Congratulations to the Section IX Champions that represented the Section at the NYSPHSAA Championship. e. Nordic Skiing Nick Mancuso f. Boys Swimming Scott Warner Monroe-Woodbury was the OCIAA and Section IX Champion. The 2017 Championship will be held in Long Island. g. Winter Track Mike White Girls Champions Monroe-Woodbury Rondout Valley Boys Champions Monroe-Woodbury Marlboro The 2017 Championship will be held in Staten Island. h. Wrestling Jeff Cuilty Written report to be online. i. Bowling Theresa Eckert and Erena O Brien Section IX teams represented the Section in Buffalo, New York. The 2017 Championship will be held in Rochester, New York. j. Gymnastics Lee Ann Pazoga Written report provided. k. Cheerleading Cherie Ramsey Section IX Championship held at SCCC resulted in the following school districts representing Section IX at the first NYSPHSAA Championship in Syracuse, NY. Monroe-Woodbury, Pine Bush, Goshen, Minisink Valley, and S.S. Seward. The

Cheerleading Committee will be meeting in April to review recommendations for 2017. 13. Spring Chair Reports: a. Baseball - Jeremy Weber and James Ryan The Spring Rules Interpretations Meeting has been held in both Leagues. The Coaches Handbook is online. b. Boys Golf Tom Howe Information online. c. Girls Golf Bill Earl Motion to approve the Coordinator to book hotel rooms for the school district teams participating and have the Section bill back to the school districts. Motion by Toni Woody, 2 nd by Tim Bult. All in favor. Motion carried. Back to the Leagues Should Section IX consider how we would determine a Section IX Team Champion. d. Boys Lacrosse Bob Slate Middletown did not win the bid to host the NYSPHSAA Championship. Boys Lacrosse will have 4 classes for 2017. Seed meeting is May 23, 2016 Section IX Finals is June 1, 2016 Regional championship is June 4, 2016 NYSPHSAA Championship is June 11, 2016 at Middletown High School Request for Section IX to have a Senior All-Star Contest on June 7, 2016. Motion to approve by John Landro, 2 nd by Mike Bellarosa. All in favor. Motion carried. e. Girls Lacrosse Wendy Crandall f. Boys Tennis Urvashi Gupta g. Track & Field Matt Hemmer and Brian Halling Report is online. 2019 NYSPHSAA championship will be at Middletown High School. Sectional entries will be online. If coaches and Athletic Directors have problems or questions please email Matt Hemmer. h. Softball Tom Cassata and Steve Boucher Handbook will be online. A reminder that coaches need helmets. Nonapproved bat lists have been distributed. Athletic Directors should have all students take SAT s in May. Regional dates and sites have been established. 14. Chair Reports: a. Girls & Boys Modified Sports Jeremy Weber and Michelle Henn The Committee meets in April. No report at this time. b. Safety Janet Carey The Committee meets in April. No report at this time.

c. Chemical Health Marco Lanzoni The Committee will meet at the NYSAAA Conference. d. Eligibility Fred Ahart No meeting after the meeting. e. Officials Coordinator Dennis Burkett Negotiations are ongoing. f. Sportsmanship Glen Maisch Survey to be completed by Athletic Directors by April 1, 2016. 15. New Business: Robert Zayas Code of Conduct A discussion by Executive Directors regarding if they are necessary. 1. Tim Bult made a motion, 2 nd by Toni Woody, to approve Greg Ransom as Section IX Executive Director, Assistant Treasurer and Secretary for 2016-2017. All in favor. Motion carried. 2. Pete Ferguson A. NYSPHSAA Hall of Fame Back to the Leagues. The nomination of Tony Martelli. B. Motion by Rosario Agostaro, 2 nd by Sean Michel, to approve the request for Middletown to host the 2017-18-19 NYSPHSAA Championship. A bid will be prepared. All in favor. Motion carried. C. Boys and Girls Soccer All Star Contest previously approved by the Athletic Council with the date of Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Newburgh High School. The contests will be as follows: 10:00 a.m. B/C/D Girls East/West 12:00 Noon B/C/D Boys East/West 2:00 p.m. A/AA Girls North/South 4:00 p.m. A/AA Boys North/South 3. S.S. Seward requesting approval to play above its D classification for 2016-2017 in Boys and Girls Soccer. The request is to play in Class C. Motion to approve by Robbie Greene, 2 nd by Rosario Agostaro. All in favor. Motion carried. 4. Regional Track & Field Hall of Fame. The Athletic Council would like more detail and more questions regarding the concept needs to be answered. Back to the Leagues 5. Greg Ransom discussed the merger question in Modified between Greenwood Lake, Warwick and Chester. NYSPHSAA noted it is not permitted for Greenwood Lake students to choose to play at either Chester or Warwick.

The Superintendent of Greenwood Lake, Dr. Christine Ackerman, requested that Section IX request a waiver of the NYSPHSAA rule. After discussion by the Athletic Council, Robbie Greene made the motion, 2 nd by Mike Bellarosa to ask the NYSPHSAA Handbook Committee to review the rule pertaining to Modified Athletics. 6. Section IX Athletics Start Dates, Meeting Dates and Sites Back to the Leagues Chris Mayo will check on the Orange-Ulster BOCES site, Dennis Burkett will check on the Coleman High School site. Jim Osborne will check on the Monroe- Woodbury and Wallkill sites. 7. Michelle Henn Catskill Zone information will be sent to the Athletic Council and Athletic Directors. 8. Chris Mayo presented Robbie Greene with a plaque for her work on the OCIAA Executive Committee. Congratulations Ms. Greene on your retirement. 16. Old Business None reported. 17.
