NEGUS SIXTH FORM CENTRE at Plumstead Manor School A High Performing Specialist School Success & harmony

Eighteen-year-old Jade Van Graan, a talented dancer who lives in Abbey Wood, studied biology, chemistry, maths and dance at A-level. She has a place at King s College in London to study medicine, and wants to be a surgeon. I stayed on into the sixth form because the teachers are so good and helpful, especially the science teachers. They are amazing. I have had wonderful opportunities. I ve been able to do other stuff from here because I ve done so well, including sailing and power-boating at the Ahoy Centre in Greenwich as a volunteer. I ll always remember Plumstead Manor and Negus for encouraging us to be confident and use our skills and not to be afraid of teamwork. The teachers are not just after the grades, they really want us to do well. They speak highly of their relationships with staff and the excellent support they receive. OFSTED REPORT

Okonkwo Collins, also 18, has been studying A-level chemistry, maths and biology. He said: I ve applied to study pharmacy at university. I came here from Nigeria and it s been very good, a friendly environment. People here are very nice to you. My family is also supporting me in my wish to be a pharmacist like my sister. She has helped me with work experience during the holidays. The special thing about Negus is the teachers you can pop into them any time and ask them for help, which is very important, I think. I have been very happy here. I will miss it. It has been a great experience for me. An extensive range of academic and vocational opportunities is available. OFSTED REPORT

Jade Flannery studied our level 3 BTEC National Diploma in Performing Arts and BTEC Level 3 Award in Events Management; Jade achieved 4 Distinctions (equivalent to 4 A grade A-levels) I chose to stay on at Negus, as it was one of the few colleges that offered a full time Performing Arts course. I had already built up a trusting, enjoyable relationship with most of the teachers and I felt I would continue to be supported in the sixth form. The course was amazing for me and I learnt an immense amount whilst at the same time having fun and doing what I love- the two years flew by! Jade has gained a place at City Lit to study Advanced Acting for a year before applying to Drama School. Students make excellent progress in their personal development and show an exceptionally mature outlook. OFSTED REPORT

Caitlin White, 18, who lives in Plumstead, hopes to become a doctor. She went to St Ursula s secondary school, Blackheath, and then to sixth form college in Orpington. Caitlin was unhappy there and transferred to Negus. I didn t really like it there so I came here in September. I ve really enjoyed it. Everyone is really helpful and I m sure I ve got an offer from King s thanks to Negus. The science department is really good, the teachers are amazing. Once you get to this level of education, some teachers think you should get on with it yourself. But here they give you so much support and help, and make sure that you get the grades you need. The ethos of the school strongly promotes learning and achievement and effectively encourages a sense of self-belief in its pupils. OFSTED REPORT

Welcome Negus, our lively mixed sixth form at Plumstead Manor has a record of high attainment at all ability levels. This is achieved through a broad offer including expertise in further maths, modern languages and the sciences at A level as well as Level 3 vocational courses in Performing Arts one of our three specialisms. Sue Flanagan Headteacher Negus Sixth Form Centre The Negus Sixth Form Centre may have temporarily lost it s home as we wait for the completion of our building programme at Plumstead Manor, but it s still in top form with a great and much-loved team. We have transferred to the old St Paul s Academy located off Wickham Lane, Abbey Wood, whilst the Building Schools for the Future work is carried out. The curriculum in the sixth form provides a very good range of courses that prepares students effectively for the future. OFSTED REPORT
