All NJ Community Colleges use the College Board Accuplacer Test Students who score 540 on verbal or 530 on math portion of the SAT s or: 235 on the verbal and 250 on the math portion of the HSPA do not have to take the Accuplacer. Prepare the students for the Accuplacer so when they register it at Ocean County College they can enroll in college level l classes.
Meet with the leaders at Ocean County College. Form a consortium of Ocean County school interested in being part of this project Educate the HS faculty on the Accuplacer Identify student going to Ocean County College that did not make college ready scores on the SAT or HSPA
4 Districts in Ocean County take part in the project. 25 Juniors, eligible ibl for the STARS program in each high school take part in the program 32% of the 150 students taking the test did not meet the cut score. During g the summer of 2008 2009 groups of high school and college English and Math faculty met to develop a list of skills needed to assure college readiness as well as modules to help prepare students t for the test.

Schedule seniors who did not pass the test in the same English class. Have English and Math teachers take the Accuplacer Provide training for the English teachers on the Accuplacer Modules Work W k with ih staff to infuse modules into the curriculum Provide additional support for students before retaking the Accuplacer

We gave our students the advantage of taking the test in their home school Results from the test were immediate Support and interventions were provided by their teachers Students were able to strengthen skills prior to taking the test There was a decrease in the number of students placed in remedial courses.
