ST. Rose School Monthly Messenger - We Exist To Bring Our Catholic Faith To Life -.Principal Headliner, February 2018 I have been pondering the rhythms of our school years the rhythms of our lives the seasons. When someone says, and everyone does, Where did the time go? it makes you wonder where DOES the time go? It goes to the seasons, the beginning of school, the first trimester, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, New Year s, Catholic Schools Week, the coming of the season of Lent Rhythms the time goes. Rhythms we are in and out of the regularity of the seasons. These rhythms are what we depend on to guide us day to day, year after year. They are also a confirmation of the choices we make and how we set ourselves to living our lives, living our rhythms. * Everything is a choice. This is life s greatest truth and its hardest lesson. It is a great truth because it reminds us of our power. Not power over others, but the often untapped power to be ourselves and to live the life we have imagined. At this time of the school year, I often remind parents, and students, to take a moment each week and each month take stock of what the calendar holds for your children and for your family. Just as we at school try to hold true to our mission statements (school and class), what are your family s priorities; what is your family s mission? How do you as a family want to experience these months of February through May, spring through the summer, wrapping up this school year and welcoming each next school year? What choices will you make? Stop! It s time to think. It s time to pray. It s time to prepare and plan and enjoy each next moment. Welcome and enjoy the rhythms. *I have drawn some inspiration and thought from Matthew Kelly s, The Rhythm of Life: Living Everyday with Passion and Purpose February 2018 Issue Principal s News Bulletins Friday, February 2, is a minimum day: TK attends classes 8-11:30 am and K - 8th grade attends classes 8-12 noon. Saint Rose Athletic Department To: From: 5 th 8 th Grade Students and Parents Steve & Mary White Athletic Directors Date: February 7, 2018 Subject: 2018 Spring Sports Participation For the 2018 sports season, the Parochial Athletic League (PAL) offers four sports: Co-ed Track, Coed Golf, Boys Volleyball, and Girls Flag Football. Below is some additional information regarding each of the PAL s spring sports. Co-ed Track & Field Head Coach: Alex Leon Co-ed track and field is open to boys and girls in grades 5-8. Practices are typically one or two days per week and practices are conducted at nearby high school or middle school facilities. For the past 2 years, we have practiced at Creek View Middle School on Cook Riolo Road and we plan to conduct practices there again this year. Participants can participate in a variety of track and field events including: 100-meter dash, 800-meter run, 400-meter relay, hurdles, shot put, high jump, and long jump. The PAL typically schedules three meets which take place on Sundays at Jesuit High School. Co-ed Golf Head Coach: Open Co-ed golf is open to boys and girls in grades 5-8. Practices are typically one or two days per week at local golf facilities. For the past few years, we have practiced at Woodcreek Golf Course in Roseville with instruction from one of their teaching professionals. We plan to have similar practice arrangements at Woodcreek Golf Course again this year. The team typically participates in several matches each year including the PAL Golf Championship at the end of the year. Matches are typically restricted to the top seven golfers. However, the team is open to all 5 th -8 th grade students and it provides a great opportunity for our students to learn the basics of the game from local teaching professionals. Boys Volleyball Head Coach: Open Boys volleyball is open to boys in grades 6-8. Practices are typically one or two days per week in the St. Rose Gym. The schedule usually consists of six or seven games against other Sacramento Area Catholic Schools. St. Rose last fielded a boys volleyball team in 2016. However, if there is enough interest, and we have a parent volunteer to coach, we would love to see St. Rose return to the PAL Boys Volleyball circuit! Girls Flag Football Head Coach: Open Girls flag football is open to 6 th -8 th grade girls. Practices are typically one or two days per week in the gully area below the school. The schedule usually consists of four or five games against other Sacramento Area Catholic Schools. St. Rose last fielded at girls flag football team in 2014. If there is enough interest and if we have a parent volunteer to coach, we would love to see our St. Rose girls return to the gridiron!
