The Technology Education Club allows students to apply principles of Physics and Engineering to build an electric car. This year students will be making modifications to a car built during the 2013-2014 school year and build a new electric car. Meetings will begin in November. We try to promote activities that will foster the continued development of our athletic program, by supporting the Athletic Director, the Sports Booster Club, and all respective athletic teams when possible. The Weight Training Club meets beginning in October and continues until June. Members will be taught weight room safety, lifting techniques and different types of physical training. National Technical Honor Society (NTHS) / The NTHS is a service organization for outstanding students in the area of career and technology education (CTE). Students are selected from the CTE departments, School to Career, Business Education, JROTC, Technical Education, and our Criminal Justice program based on their grade point average and teacher recommendations. National World Languages Honor Society/Spanish Club Sponsor : Ms. Dougherty Meeting Time: One time per month TBD, 2:30-4:00, Room 35 The Spanish Club and National World Language Honor Society (NWLHS) is a joint club. The purpose of the society is to recognize high achievement of high school students in the Spanish language and to promote a continuing interest in Spanish studies. We meet to discuss culture and have activities. We also volunteer at the Essex Library. Robotics Club Sponsor: Ms. Gugino Meeting Time & Location: Tues-Thurs, 2:30-4:30, Room 5 The robotics club is designed for students who enjoy problem solving, hands on activities, computer programming, and competition. Each year, we are issued a new challenge. We must read and interpret the game manual in order to design a robot which can most effectively meet the challenge. After solving these problems you will compete with other high schools to determine the best design. School Store Hours: Open 7:20a - 7:40am daily, and during all lunch shifts The school store allows students convenient access to school supplies in order for them to be prepared for classes. It is a school-based enterprise which gives students an opportunity to learn lessons significant to business functions by managing a business while integrating business concepts learned in the classroom. APPlied Club Sponsor: Mr. Patterson Meeting Time & Location: Tuesdays, 2:30-4:00, Room 11 The APPlied Club has been created to bring artists, writers, programmers, actors and musicians together to create interactive game media. Students will learn the process of designing video games, mobile apps, and other software through a team-based, iterative, problem solving approach. Bayhawk Student Council (BSC) Sponsor : Ms. Peterkin & Mr. D Achino Meeting Dates According to Calendar The Student Council links administration with the student body. It is led by a president, vice president, treasurer, and secretary. The BSC is comprised of an Executive Board and Homeroom Representatives. We sponsor Homecoming events such as; pep rally, spirit week, parade, and dance. In addition, we also host an annual Talent Show in the winter and Spring Fair in May. Members also participate in many service projects that directly affect our community. Bible Study Club Sponsors: Ms. Parlette Meeting Time & Location: Sign up in math hallway A.P.4.U is a student-led Christian Club all about promoting the knowledge of the Bible to Chesapeake students. Students work to film, edit, and produce this daily news show at Chesapeake, as well as collect interviews and produce short segments covering events and other exciting things taking place in the CHS community. Chess Club Sponsor: Mr. Lyons Meeting Time & Location: Wednesdays, 2:30-3:30, Room 46 Chess Club is designed to teach chess to new players, and to develop and improve the skills of experienced players. Chess also develops critical thinking and problem solving skills. Game sets will be provided. Chess it s good for your brain. GEM School Coordinator : Ms. Ray and Ms. Dougherty Meeting Time & Location: Two times a month on Tuesdays, Library Girls Empowerment Mission is a program to empower girls who attend CHS by providing them opportunities and growth experiences that will enable them to become independent, selfsufficient and confident young women. GEM meets twice per month and takes 6 overnight retreats each year. This unique program, based only at CHS, is designed to assist collegebound, motivated young ladies with potential to be the best they can be. There is a rigorous application and selection process, and each year, a new group is selected from the current ninth graders, and, once selected, girls remain in the program throughout high school. Model UN Sponsor: Ms. Slone In a partnership with Towson University, tenth graders in AP World History will participate in a Model United Nation program where each student will research and represent an assigned country at the conference. In addition, students will learn to write, and present global resolutions and position papers. National Art Honor Society (NAHS) Sponsor: Mrs. Ehrenreich Meeting Time & Location: Tuesday / Thursday TBD based on Current Projects, 2:30-4:30, Room 48 NAHS is an art scholarship, service and character organization for outstanding art students of Chesapeake High School. This national organization focuses on fostering excellence and a dedicated spirit in the pursuit of art. NAHS members must meet certain requirements for grade point average, community service, school service, and leadership. Members commit to several events each semester. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors can apply. National Honor Society (NHS) Sponsors: Ms. Moore & Ms. Rohde Meeting Time & Location: Monthly on the 3rd Tuesday, 2:30, Room 16 The NHS is a service organization for the outstanding students of Chesapeake High student body. The goal of Drama Club is to allow students to participate in an organized production, which is the product of regular rehearsals and meetings. Students work together as a team to expose the school to a variety of performing arts. Each year, Envirothon provides you with a chance to get up-close-and-personal with North America s natural resources. First Financial Federal Credit Union Meeting Time & Location: Open daily from 11:00-12:30 The Bayhawk Branch of First Financial Credit Union of Maryland allows members to initiate transactions the same way as if they were at one of the other locations. This branch allows students to open accounts and begin building good habits. This student operated branch encourages all to become financially responsible. 3 CSI: Chesapeake Sponsor : Ms. Romanowski Meeting Time & Location: See Ms. Romanowski This club promotes awareness and interest in the many criminal justice fields that are available to students. All CHS students are welcome as members of the club. The club strives to provide opportunities for students to interact with professionals in various criminal justice related fields. In addition, the CHS CSI Team participates in an annual county-wide competition in which students process full-scale mock crime scenes.
