GROWING, LEARNING, ACHIEVING TOGETHER Highland Close, Bletchley, Milton Keynes, MK3 7PD. Telephone: (01908) 270377 Headteacher: Christine Ryan MIBiol, CBiol, NPQH, MA, LLE Email: office@coldharbour.milton-keynes.sch.uk Dear Parents and Carers, 17 th April 2018 Values This month we shall continue to focus on the value of forgiveness. At Cold Harbour CE School we believe that God always forgives. We can follow his example by always forgiving those who have done us wrong. A Prayer for Forgiveness Dear Lord, I thank you for the power of forgiveness, and I choose to forgive everyone who has hurt me. Help me set [name anyone who has offended you] free and release them to you [Romans 12:19]. Help me bless those who have hurt me [Romans 12:14]. Help me walk in righteousness, peace, and joy, demonstrating your life here on earth. I choose to be kind and compassionate, forgiving others, just as you forgave me [Ephesians 4:32]. In Jesus name, Amen. Staffing We would like to welcome Miss Ruth Sadi to Cold Harbour School. Ruth will be working with us for the Summer Term in Duckling class working alongside the Early Years team. Governor Elections Thank you for the nominations received. We would like to welcome Andrew Prince and Petra Wagstaff to our Cold Harbour CE Primary school governing board. We are delighted to inform you we now have a full governing body who are all very committed to supporting the school through our improvement journey. Caldecotte Xperience As mentioned in last month s newsletter, the new date for the year 4 Caldecotte Xperience residential visit will be Monday 30 th April to Tuesday 1 st May. Hopefully the weather will be kinder and we will be able to participate in more activities than originally planned. 1

May Day - cancelled We had originally planned to hold our country dancing and maypole dancing festival on Tuesday 1 st May. However, the year 4 residential was postponed due to the snow and been rescheduled for 30 April 1 st May and the inclement weather has not provided us with opportunities to practice. We are regrettably going to cancel this event. However, on Thursday 17 th May at 2.00pm we will be holding a family picnic in celebration of the royal wedding. Further information will be provided. Swimming Swimming is a strand of the National Curriculum in Key Stage 2. All year 3 pupils will now access this area of their curriculum in the Summer Term following the Easter break starting on Monday starting on 23 rd April. A letter has already been sent home, please complete the consent form and return it to school as soon as possible. End of Key Stage 2 assessment The end of Key Stage 2 (Year 6 pupils) will be sitting their Statutory Assessment Tests during the week beginning Monday 14 th May. Key Stage 1 assessment The end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2 pupils) will also be sitting their Statutory Assessment Tests over two weeks starting in the week beginning 7 th May. During these assessment periods it is essential that children attend every day. All children registered at a school are required to sit the end of key stage assessments. If your child is ill on the day of the test: If it is something minor, we would suggest for your child to come in and sit the test, before returning home. It can be arranged for your child to take the tests away from other pupils if this is required. For more serious cases where it is clear the child cannot attend school, we apply to the DfE for your child to sit the test on a different day to their peers. School Nurse Clinic The school nurse team run termly clinics within school and will be available to meet with families to discuss health issues that are impacting on the child s education and general well-being. The clinic is a confidential health clinic which can cover a variety of topics such as bed-wetting, soiling, behavioural issues, poor attendance, sleep disturbances and dietary issues. 2

The next clinic will be on Tuesday 19 th June 2018 during the morning. The nurse will see you by appointment only for a 30 minute slot, so if you would like to meet with the school nurse please let the school office know so that they can book an appointment for you. Safeguarding In accordance with our health and safety procedures, it is essential that we are aware of visitors entering the school. Any visitor entering the school should do so through the main entrance. Unless your child is attending breakfast club from 8.00am, please may we remind you that children should not enter the playground until 8.30am as staff are not able to supervise until then. Children should not be left unattended before this time; parents are responsible for their children until they go into class at 8.45am. When collecting children at the end of the day from Years 3 upwards, please wait on the playground for your child and they will be escorted from the classroom by the teacher. For Upper Key Stage 2 children (years 5 and 6), if you wish your child to walk home, please could you email the school office to give your consent as we are updating our records office@coldharbour.milton-keynes.sch.uk Thanks for your help. Contacting the school There are many ways in which you can contact the school; through dojo message, telephone, email and school facebook page. As with any system there is an agreed code of conduct when contacting staff. The school staff and governors are committed to Cold Harbour School being a place where everyone flourishes through treating everyone with respect and courtesy. We ask that you respectfully use these platforms. Thank you for making it a place where courtesy and politeness are the norm. Admissions for September 2018 National offer day for children starting school for the first time in September 2018 was on Monday 16 th April. Details for the induction programme into school for the new Foundation Stage children will start on June 7 th with weekly playground visits every Thursday and visits to the pre-school and nursery settings. If you have any questions or concerns regarding admissions please contact the school office. School Class Photographs Class photographs will be taking place on Friday 25 th May. 3

Bring a Man to School We look forward to inviting our men into School on Friday 15 th June at 1.30pm. To help us with our catering arrangements, please let the school office know if you will be attending. Thanks for your help. Summer is around the corner! With the prospect of sunshine and increasing temperatures over the summer term, please ensure your child brings a bottle of water to be kept in the classroom to drink during school hours. This should be in a see through, clearly labelled bottle with a sports-type top, to avoid spillages. It should be taken home every night to be washed and refilled. Water is available in school if it needs to be refilled during the day. An additional bottle of water or juice should be available for their lunch time drink. We would also like to remind you that sunscreen should be applied before coming to school, and a sunhat provided for your child. Sun hats are available through our uniform providers www.talk2me.co.uk at a cost of 3.99 for a summer cap or 4.75 for a Legionaires cap. Please provide a named sunscreen if additional applications are required. We are very much looking forward to seeing the children on the school playing field. Yours sincerely Mrs Christine Ryan Headteacher. 4
