Hammond Park Primary School is an Independent Public School. It opened its doors to 221 students from Kindergarten to Year 6 in February 2014. This inaugural Hammond Park Primary School 2014-2016 Business Plan clearly articulates what we aim to achieve and how we will do this. This Plan has been created in collaboration with the Hammond Park Primary Independent Public School Board, the Parents and Citizens Association and the staff. It outlines our vision for the future, the directions and strategies we will take and our commitment to achieving these objectives. A range of student achievement data has been collected and it is from this that we have selected our priority areas. Our Business Plan will be reviewed annually to ensure that our key performance indicators reflect ongoing commitment and effort that is explicitly focussed on identified areas of need to ensure that all our students continue to be successful. Our School Our school has four teaching and learning blocks including one that is specifically designed for early childhood children, a purpose built visual arts room and music room, a covered assembly area with a fully equipped canteen, a library, an oval, cricket pitch, cricket nets and basketball/tennis courts. Out of school hours care is available on site in the mornings and after school. State-of-the-art ICT infrastructure is in place to ensure all students and staff members make best use of the opportunities to use cutting edge technology in a 21st century learning environment. All administration staff, teachers, education assistants and ancillary staff have been merit selected. Our dedicated, committed and professional team work together to establish a joyful and engaging learning environment where students can be the best they can be. Our Vision, Goals and Commitment Our school logo depicts three figures supported by the leaves of the eucalyptus tree which is prevalent in the local environment. This important logo represents the partnerships that exist between the students, the school and the community and our commitment to the development of a strong culture of collaboration now and in the future. Our Parents and Citizens Association and our School Board provide support and direction to our school. Parents and caregivers are encouraged to become involved in the P&C and the School Board. In addition to this, parent help in classrooms, the library and at various school activities is always welcome and appreciated. At Hammond Park Primary School we have high social and academic expectations of all students. The decisions we make and the structures and processes that we have in place help maintain a safe, respectful, joyful and tolerant learning environment that promotes academic and social rigour for all students. We work together to achieve these goals so that students become lifelong learners. Teachers at Hammond Park Primary School are effective teachers. They engage in professional dialogue, share practice and professional learning that is anchored in their daily work and is part of the culture of our school. School Focus Areas Students, Curriculum and the Learning Environment Value-adding in the Learning Areas of English, Maths, History and Science. Data (both system and school based) is analysed, used to plan programs of work and direct resources to identified areas of need NAPLAN (Year 3 and 5) and On-entry for Pre-Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 Assessment schedule developed across school to track progress Year level targets identified and progress towards them regularly reviewed Whole-school English and Maths blocks are non-negotiable across all year levels K Year 6 Cockburn Central Education Network (CCEN) annual cross-school moderation sessions and Teacher Network meetings held each term Local Teacher Development Schools (Harmony, Beeliar and Success) support understanding of standards in English, Maths and History Whole-school approach to teaching Science focusing on the explicit teaching of inquiry skills. Effective and ongoing implementation of the West Australian Curriculum in K Year 6 and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the National Quality Standards (NQS) in all K Year 2 classrooms. Whole school implementation of the West Australian Curriculum underway and ongoing On-entry assessment data in PP Year 2 is used to inform planning at individual, small group and whole school level Reporting to parents in Semester one and two against the outcomes of the West Australian Curriculum Targeted professional learning for teachers at point of need. 4

A learning environment that is engaging and promotes intellectual rigour. Curriculum differentiation in all classrooms K Year 6. All classrooms are collaborative and engaging Student data is visible and supports goal-setting and progress Curriculum differentiation in Reading, Spelling, Writing and Maths ensures students are working at their instructional level Digital technologies are an integral part of curriculum Teachers and Education Assistants are familiar with and use Classroom Management and Instructional Strategies (CM&IS) Closely monitored case management plans are in place for all students at educational risk. High social and academic expectations of all students each and every day. Morning meetings established in every classroom K Year 6 Morning meetings reviewed and adjusted through an ongoing process of peer observation and feedback. All teachers record behaviour data on SIS and use data to develop plans for individuals as required Classroom Management Strategies are used by all staff An Anti-Bullying Policy has been endorsed by the School Board School Rules are visible and known and understood by all students Student Code of Conduct reflects the school s values and beliefs. Access to a range of specialist teachers and programs. School Psychologist and the Learning Support Coordinator provide advice and assistance to cater for the diverse needs of individual students Primary Extension and Challenge programs are offered for eligible students both in-school, through regional PEAC programs and the local high school s Atwell Zone Extension Program Drama, Visual Arts and Physical Education Specialist teachers provide relevant and engaging programs and opportunities for students, community events and performances. Physical Activity is promoted, valued and enjoyed by all students. Students participate in a minimum of two hours of physical activity per week All students in Year 1 Year 6 work with the Physical Education Specialist teacher each week K, PP and Year 1 students engage in Fundamental Movement Skills (FMS) each week. Students have the opportunity to learn in a safe, respectful and tolerant environment. Behaviour management processes are collaboratively developed across the HPPS collaborative learning community and endorsed by the School Board Consistent approaches to behaviour management are evident both in the classroom and in the playground Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) are used to encourage and enhance student engagement and learning. Portable devices are accessible in each Teaching Block Library resource centre seen as the hub of the school with technology widely available for staff and student use Each class has wireless network access and interactive devices accessible to students New technologies are trialled and used where appropriate ICT Committee is strategic and active in providing opportunities for staff and students to trial new approaches to embed ICT across the curriculum. 5

Leadership and Professional Learning Staff are committed to and engaged with school vision, ethos, policy and procedures. Staff are encouraged and supported to engage in lifelong learning by collaborating and learning with colleagues in-school and across Cockburn Central Education Network (CCEN). All staff engage in ongoing self-reflection to maintain effectiveness and currency of practice. Australian Institute of Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) Standards are used as a self-reflection tool for teachers and school leaders Performance Management is a process designed to support, monitor, develop and embed skill sets in all staff members Observation and feedback opportunities will be introduced across and within classrooms in line with the requirements of the Employee Performance Policy. Enhance and provide leadership opportunities for all staff. Distributed Leadership model in key Learning Areas provides opportunities for staff with leadership aspirations to develop their skills Level 3 aspirant program to be initiated at school level All teachers have the opportunity to be part of Curriculum Committees that meet regularly to support the strategic and operational direction of the school. School-based professional learning opportunities build staff capacity and engagement in the implementation of school initiatives and key focus areas. Collaborative meetings (K/PP, Year 1/ 2, Year 3/4 and Year 5/6), committee meetings (ICT and Waste Wise) and Curriculum Leaders meetings held regularly and at point of need Teachers are committed to meeting each Tuesday afternoon throughout the year to engage in sharing, data analysis, planning and professional learning Teachers present professional learning to colleagues at collaborative meetings and on Tuesday afternoons. 6

Partnerships The school community has an important role to play in school decision-making. School Board members are elected by the community and participate in Department of Education training School community members and the inaugural Steering Committee took part in the establishment of the school vision, values, beliefs, motto and uniform. School/ Community organisations support the school in variety of ways. Hammond Park Primary School P&C Association is established and operational This group of like-minded parents and caregivers works together in the best interests of their children and the school to provide additional opportunities for learning. Partnerships with local schools. Working in partnership with local schools that are part of the Cockburn Central Education Network (CCEN) Working closely with Atwell College to enhance opportunities for student to engage in academic, sporting and Visual Arts events across the CCEN. A whole-school approach to environmental responsibility and sustainability is developed and maintained. All students in K Year 6 engage in learning opportunities that support the mantra Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Green Guardians a group of senior students who are passionate environmentalists who promote environmental and sustainable messages across the school Tree planting is ongoing in-school and across the district. Environmentally responsible behaviours are practised across the school. Waste Wise Committee established and operational Recycling, worm farms, compost bins and annual Waste Wise audits Plastic Free July Zero Waste Lunchboxes Membership to Remida (Creative Re-Use Centre) Playgrounds and play equipment made from recycled materials. We embrace and celebrate the cultural diversity that exists within our community. The diverse range of cultures that exist in our school community is acknowledged and celebrated formally and informally on a daily basis in classrooms and at wholeschool level in a number of ways: Harmony and NAIDOC Days Curriculum integration of national cultural days Artist-in-Residence Grant Incursions and excursions that provide all students with the opportunity to understand and appreciate the traditions of other cultures. Environmental grants and funding are sought. Two successful Waste Wise Grants received City of Cockburn grant. Interagency partnerships are fostered. Partnerships with local businesses, agencies such as the City of Cockburn and the new Cockburn Library have been established The Artist-in-Residence (AIR) Project has been successful for 2015. 7
