Every day in every classroom every student is learning and achieving ADMINISTRATION Principal Lisa Tucker Deputy Principals Taylor Webb Leah Clegg Manager Corporate Services Jennifer Ryan School Officers Sue Hutchinson Leanne Gray DIARY DATES Friday 6 April Interschool swimming carnival Thursday 12 April ANZAC ceremony Friday 13 April 3pm School holidays commence Monday 30 April Term 2 commences Newsletter 6 Monday 9 April 2018 From the Principal Interschool Swimming Carnival 2018 Champions In my last newsletter I spoke about our highly successful faction swimming carnival. This success was continued on Friday with our interschool team winning their first interschool swimming carnival for many, many years. In fact, no one can remember when this last occurred! Congratulations to our students for their efforts, not only on the day, but also in the weeks leading up to this event. Our students achieved this success through hard work and dedicated participation during both swimming training and lessons. They deserve to be congratulated, not only for their swimming achievements but importantly, for the outstanding sportsmanship they displayed throughout the day. As many of you are aware, Duncraig s physical education teacher, Mr Ted Orzel has put in hours of work both organising the swimming carnivals as well as the swimming training. Thank you to those parents who have taken the time to email me your appreciation and to express this directly to Mr Orzel. Both Mr Orzel and Mr Webb are also appreciative that their efforts in transporting and setting up for the event (starting at 6am on Friday) did not go unnoticed by the parents that attended. Although the interschool swimming carnival is an integral part of our annual calendar, the faction carnival was only introduced last year. To ease the pressure on our busy school calendar, and to provide our students with greater diversity in extra curricular activities, many of our events now occur every two years. Please be rest assured (as I know many of you will ask me in the coming weeks), our faction swimming carnival looks like it has earned a place as an annual term 1 event. KidsMatter Supporting the Wellbeing of our Students Throughout this term, you may have read the KidsMatter articles about developing wellbeing in our children. This has included information about starting school, anxiety and protective behaviours. KidsMatter is a mental health and wellbeing framework for primary schools and is an important direction of our current Business Plan 2017 2019. A range of new strategies designed to enhance social and emotional learning, student resilience and wellbeing are currently being developed by a committee consisting or interested parent and school staff. We are interested in your views on how well we are supporting your children at school as well as suggestions as to how we can provide greater assistance for families. A short survey has been developed by this committee and will be emailed to parents early next term. Please look out for this and take the time to respond. We encourage your feedback in ensuring our school is a positive place for all the children in our care. In conclusion, I wish all of our school community a safe April holiday break and look forward to seeing you all next term. Lisa Tucker Principal ANZAC ASSEMBLY Our school ANZAC service will be held this Thursday 12 April from 9.00am. We would ask that all students bring a flower to place at the base of the flagpole during the ceremony. We would like students to wear full school uniform - no faction shirts please. Parents and other community members are invited to attend.

KINDERGARTEN GARDENING NEWS On Friday the 6th of April, the Kindergarten was a buzzing hive of activity with both Kindy groups joining together. We enjoyed a morning outside learning about gardening and the environment participating in hands on activities including planting flowers, seeds, herbs, fruit and vegetables. Students also decorated rocks, investigated worms, played in the mud kitchen and created art out of flowers, nuts and leaves. The morning was concluded with a delicious morning tea shared with the large group of parent volunteers. This special event would not have been possible without the hard work, planning and hands on assistance from our hardworking parents. Special thanks to coordinator Jolean Payne and her team, including Diana Smith from Weeding Women for the seedling donations and Nat Brown for donating the worms and worm farm! We can't wait to sample the produce we are now growing! ALLERGY AWARE information Allergy Aware School We have a number of students in the school with severe life threatening allergies (anaphylaxis reaction) to products, particularly nuts. An anaphylaxis reaction causes shock, suffocation and death within minutes of the allergic reaction commencing if not treated immediately. These life threatening reactions can be generated simply by touching a surface that has had a nut product on it. We request your support in creating a safer environment by:- not providing nut products at school such as peanut paste or Nutella sandwiches or snack bars with nuts. encouraging your child to wash their hands before and after eating. INTERSCHOOL SWIMMING CARNIVAL - PHOTOS After our exciting day at the swimming carnival we realised that we hadn t taken any photos. If anyone some photos of the swimming carnival they would be happy to share with the school please email them to the school address Duncraig.ps@education.wa.edu.au.

CONTRIBUTIONS AND CHARGES We look forward to your support in paying these voluntary contributions Kindergarten to year 7 $60 These funds will be used to provide additional resources for all students. An outline of possible charges for each year level was provided at the end of last year. Please use this to anticipate educational expenses for the year. Payment can be made by cash, cheque or bank deposit (BSB 016 495 3409 48316). We have no EFTPOS facilities. Board Game Club Board games are a great way for children to learn and socially interact with each other. So why not join us for some after school board game fun, it will be held every Monday for 4 week, starting Monday 7th May Term 2. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodation every child due to limited spacing, therefore cut off will be at 30 registrations. We will try to ensure that there is a good spread across the board for all year groups. If your child is interested in attending, or if you have any questions, please contact Nisha Ladhani by email nishalakhman@hotmail.com or phone 0402311367. Cut off for registration is Friday 27th April. We ask that you commit to the full 4 weeks. We ask that all children from years K to 2 are supervised so parents will need to be present for the whole session. N.B. If you are able to volunteer an hour a week, we are looking for parent volunteers to help run the club.
