NEWSLETTER 8 th December 2017 Chawton CE Primary School Chawton Alton Hampshire GU34 1SG Tel/Fax: 01420 544381 Email: adminoffice@chawton.hants.sch.uk www.chawton.hants.sch.uk Community Day Autumn Tidy Up! On 2 nd November a very kind band of volunteers governors, parents and children gave up their Saturday to tidy up the outside areas of the school. They swept, weeded, dug, cut hedges and cleaned and we are sure you will all agree that it has made a massive difference! The school now looks clean, tidy and a better place in which to work and play. On behalf of everyone at Chawton we would like to say a huge thank you to all those wonderful people who came along, we are most grateful. There will be another Community Day during the Spring/Summer Term as there are still lots of jobs to so please do come along next time! Christmas Nativity We have tickets left for both performances if anyone requires spares. We still have 1 request slip with no name on, if you requested tickets and they haven t come home with your child please speak to Miss Hooker at the office. Lunch Christmas lunch is Tuesday 19 th December. Please be aware that without a slip your child will not be able to have a school meal as there will be no other meal options available that day and you will have to send a packed lunch in. Christmas Fair! The Christmas fair is only a week away and we have lots of exciting stalls planned. Don't forget you can book your visit to see Father Christmas in the school office for only 1 per child. Oak class are allowed into the fair at 3:00pm, the rest of the school at 3:15, all children must be accompanied by their grownup. Raffle tickets will be on sale next week in the playground during drop off and at the Nativity performances. We would appreciate any cake donations for the refreshment stall, you can bring these into the office on Thursday or Friday. As you will have seen, the Secret Santa Pop up shop has been moved to Monday, this should be a lot of fun for the children taking part! Finally, we will still be accepting donations right up to the morning of the fair for the bottle tombola and pre-loved stalls as well as the sweetie bags that should have come home this afternoon. We really appreciate your support and generosity - we wouldn't be able to run these events for the children without it, so thank you again. See you on the 15th! Notices: Violin assembly Mrs Moore and our violin children will be performing in a special assembly on Wednesday 13 th December at 11:00am. Just a reminder also that Mrs Moore will be taking her PPA on Wednesday 20 th December so there will be no violin lesson that week. Guitar There will be no guitar lessons now until the 19 th January. Mr Franks is taking his PPA next week and unfortunately needs an operation in the new year so will be off for two weeks. We wish him a very speedy recovery! Medication We do understand that it is cold and cough season but children should not be bringing in items such as sore throat lozenges. Medicines can be given at home before school and if needed parents are welcome to pop in during the school day to give a top up. Please may we also remind you that we are only able to administer prescribed medication from a doctor. Personal property Please could you make sure that your children s personal property, such as pencil cases and stationary are clearly named. Thank you.

Our Achievements! We have so many talented children here at Chawton CE Primary School and we would love to share their successes and news from other events and clubs they participate in. If you have something to share and celebrate please send in your good news, preferably by email, to the school office. We are excited to hear all about it! Year 5 Eggars workshop Last week year 5 were invited to Eggars to take part in a Battle of Britain workshop. The children were able to have a go at some relief art work as well as continuing their learning about the Battle of Britain. Relief is a sculptural technique where the sculpted elements remain attached to a solid background of the same material. The children had a fantastic time and are very proud of their artwork Bugsy Malone Congratulations to the cast and crew of Mrs Abbott s Strictly Showtime theatre group for their amazing performances of Bugsy Malone at the Maltings in Alton last week. A special congratulations to the Chawton pupils who took part Alice Carroll, Caitlin Gosden, Lili-Mai Stevenson, Daisy Brice, Tori Waller, Gracie Stevenson, Florence Burbidge and Austin Carroll. They would all like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Abbott for all of her hard work in putting this production together. Alton Schools Sportshall athletics Sonny Wood, Eva Port and Caitlin Gosden represented Chawton school in the Alton Primary Schools Sportshall Athletics competition this week for year 5 and 6 children. All three performed superbly, winning many of the events! The other schools had much bigger teams with several more children competing but Eva, Caitlin and Sonny showed great indomitable spirit and teamwork. They also joined other school teams when there were not enough Chawton children for an event. Thank you for representing our school and a super huge well done!
