K-Kids Information & Application Greetings! Big Shanty s Kiwanis Kids Team is ready to kick off the 2017-2018 school year! We are excited to have many opportunities this year that will allow the K-Kids to give back and serve the community, inside and outside the walls of Big Shanty. We will be providing leadership training for K-Kids members to build character and develop conflict management skills, confidence, responsibility, organization and teamwork. We are excited to have many partners on board to help in training. This is an amazing opportunity that most individuals do not receive until high school or college through various student service organizations. Please remember, we are not a student council. We will be working with the school to support the administrators, PTA, students, and teachers to help ensure successful endeavors, under the Kennesaw Kiwanis Chapter s guidance. K-Kid applications will be accepted from interested 4 th and 5 th graders. Completing an application does not guarantee placement on K-Kid Team. Once the due date for applications has passed, the K-Kid sponsors will review the applications and obtain teacher recommendations for each applicant. We may ask to interview or talk to some applicants to help clarify their responses or just to get to know them better. Once the applications have been reviewed, a total of 24 students will become the Big Shanty K-Kid s Team. K-Kid s will meet one Monday each month, from 2:30-3:30 pm. We will have a few off campus field trips to complete community service activities. Parents must provide transportation for their child to attend these events. A one-time $10.00 ASP registration is required for students who participate in K-Kids Team and/or any after school club at a Cobb County School. We will also ask our members to purchase a T-shirt for $10.00; however, no other dues will be required. We encourage our members to participate in any other after school clubs that do not meet on Mondays at BSI. Please use the information in this packet to answer any questions you may have. Feel free to contact any of the K-Kids sponsors to answer more specific questions. It will certainly be a great year for the Big Shanty Kiwanis Kids Team as we help the Big Shanty Community develop a passion for learning and achieve their personal best! **Please keep this form as reference** Big Shanty Kiwanis Kids (K-Kids) is a service organization that develops leadership and responsibility by promoting school spirit, giving students a voice, and providing opportunities to serve in their community. Members will be required to attend meetings, relay information to their assigned classes, and attend various K-Kids events throughout the year. K-Kids will meet once a month after school from 2:30 until 3:30 PM and will have assigned duties during the school day. Please Note: If a K-Kids member does not follow the responsibility guidelines, that member will be asked to step down and their space may or may not be given to another deserving student. We understand that conflicts may arise and other tasks may take priority. It is important to notify a sponsor if a K-Kid member is unable to attend an event or meeting. Kiwanis Kids Team Responsibilities & Expectations Attend meetings. Hold an assigned leadership position (President, Morning greeter, door holder, mail delivery, etc.). Be on time and come prepared. Listen carefully and contribute to ideas and discussions. Take notes in order to report back to assigned classes. Generate and share ideas for projects, activities and events.
