Indian Meteorological Society IMS Membership Introduction IMS membership provides members an opportunity to be part of dynamic national and international scientific and industry network to increase one s expertise and to make an impact on one s profession and community. It helps in accelerating professional development by presenting papers, sharing ideas, and networking with professionals at the IMS Annual event TROPMET/INTROMET and other IMS sponsored events and by publishing in IMS Journal and Bulletins. Primary objective of the IMS is to advance meteorology and allied sciences in all aspects. The IMS through its members, programmes and activities has great potential to assist government, research and academic institutions working in the field of meteorology. The IMS needs institutional support for this to happen on sustained basis. The Institutional Membership is intended for those government ministries, departments, research and academic institutions which are primarily working in the field of meteorology and allied sciences. In recent years, Indian manufacturing and marketing companies dealing with hydrometeorological instruments, computer hardware, software and services have witnessed significant growth. These companies are playing important role in supporting meteorological community. World over industry has become integral part of weather enterprise and National Meteorological Societies. The IMS offers Corporate membership for industry as it provides opportunities for public-private interaction and helps in the promotion of both meteorology and industry in the country. To meet aspirations of different sections of the weather community comprising of individuals working and interested in meteorology and allied fields, government departments, academic and research institutions and industry, the IMS offers following categories of memberships : Individual: Annual Member Life member

Foreign Member Student Member Patron Institutional Institutional Patron Institutional Platinum Member Institutional Life Member Institutional Annual Member Corporate Corporate Patron Corporate Platinum Member Corporate Life Member Corporate Annual Member Annual Member Any person associated with research, teaching, application, and promotion of Meteorology (and having a graduate degree in Science, Technology or related field) is eligible to apply for membership after paying requisite amount of admission and membership fees and agree to abide to the Constitution and By-Laws of the society. Fee : Rs 300/- A member will be entitled to the rights and privileges of the Society as follows: (a) To be present and vote in the general body meeting of the Society. (b) To participate in all technical meetings of the Society. (c) To propose names of candidates for the elected Council members and office bearers of the Society and to vote in any election held by the Society. (d To receive bulletins, journals and other publications issued by the Society on such terms and conditions as laid down by the National Council. (e) To be considered for award of Society Fellowships on nomination within the Society procedure.

(f) (g) The council may waive requirements of a degree in special and deserving cases. Membership will be valid till end of the financial year of registration. Life Member Any person eligible to apply for annual membership may choose to apply for being a Life Member after paying the requisite amount of fee. Fee : Rs 3,000/- A Life Member shall be entitled to the same rights and privileges as a member throughout his/her life. In addition he/she will be entitled To receive a Life Membership Certificate To become reciprocal member with American Meteorological Society (AMS) and Canadian Meteorological and Oceanographic Society. To mention Membership of IMS (MIMS) in their Bio-data and use MIMS as affiliation. Foreign Member: Any person who is residing outside India and who is otherwise eligible to become a Member can be enrolled as Foreign member on payment of requisite fee and admission fee. A foreign Member shall have same rights and privileges as a Member except the right to hold elective office. However, the council may at its description co-opt a foreign member into council. Fee : $ 300 Student Member With view to promote meteorology among college/university students and research scholars it is proposed to encourage students to become members of IMS so that they benefit by associating with IMS activities like Seminar, Workshop and can apply for scholarship etc. A Graduate/Post Graduate and Research Student can become Student Member. Membership form to be recommended by Head of the Department/Principal Fee Student membership fee to be Rs 1,000/-.

Conditions Student member will be entitled to all privileges of regular member except that student member will not have the right to vote or to hold elective office in society. Student membership will be valid till the age of 30 or earlier when one starts drawing any salary or emoluments other than scholarship or fellowship. Associate member can become regular member by paying additional amount of life membership fee. Rights and Privileges of the IMS Student Member A Student member will be entitled to the rights and privileges of the Society as follows:. (a) To participate in all technical meetings of the Society. (b) To get discount on Registration Fee of Symposiums and Seminars and books published by IMS. (c) (d) To participate in Research Scholar Seminars To receive bulletins, journals and other publications issued by the Society on such terms and conditions as laid down by the National Council. Patron A person who is interested in the aims and objects of the Society and makes a donation of Rs one Lakh or more the society will, at the discretion of the council, be admitted as a Patron. It is the most prestigious individual membership. Name of Patrons will be listed in IMS brochures, reports and IMS Website Institutional The Institutional Membership is intended for those government ministries, departments, research and academic institutions which are primarily working in the field of meteorology, allied sciences and services. Towards this, the IMS offers following categories of Institutional membership : Institutional Patron : The Institutional Patron Membership is the most prestigious class of IMS membership. Any government, research and academic institute of repute is eligible to become Patron with life time fee of Rs 10 Lakh. Institutional Patron will be listed first in all IMS brochure, reports and publications. The Institutional Member may nominate its representative to exercise the Membership privileges.

Platinum Institutional Member : Any government, research and academic institution which is interested in the aims and object of the Society, is eligible to become an Institutional Member for one time subscription of Rs 5 Lakh. The Institutional Member may nominate its representative to exercise the Membership privileges Institutional Member : Any government, research and academic institution which is interested in the aims and object of the Society, is eligible to become an Institutional Member for a period of Rs 1 Lakh for the period of 15 years or by paying annual subscription of Rs 10,000/-.The Institutional Member may nominate its representative to exercise the Membership privileges Corporate : The IMS offers following categories of Corporate membership. Corporate Patron: The Corporate Patron Membership is intended for those companies that desire recognition as active supporters of the Society. It is the most prestigious class of IMS Corporate Membership and establishes an organization as a leader in the field. A Public Sector Undertaking (PSU), Public Limited Company, Private Limited Company or NGO of repute is eligible to become Patron for a period of 30 years by payingh fee of Rs 10 Lakh. The company shall apply for Membership and shall be notified on acceptance by the Council. The Corporate Member may nominate its representative to exercise the Membership privileges Benefits : Listing under Patron category in IMS publications where IMS lists our Institution and Corporate Members.. A logo created for the exclusive use of our Corporate Patron Members. The logo can be used in promotional copy, for display on World Wide Web homepages, or wherever the member wants to show their affiliation with the IMS in print. One complementary subscription to the Bulletin of the IMS Vayumandal, the official publication of the Society A 25% discount on journal subscriptions and discounted 'member' rates on books, monographs, and other publications. A 25% discounted rate for advertisements in Vayumandal and in any IMS publication where advertising is accepted.

A 10% discount on exhibition stalls at events organized by IMS. Platinum Corporate Member : Any company engaged in manufacturing, supplying, maintaining hydro-meteorological instruments, computer hardware, software, publication of meteorological publications and providing services is eligible to become Corporate Member for a period of 30 years by paying Rs 5 Lakh. The company shall apply for Membership and shall be notified on acceptance by the Council. The Corporate Member may nominate its representative to exercise the Membership privileges. Benefits : Listing under Platinum category in IMS publications where IMS lists our Institution and Corporate Members. A logo created for the use of our Corporate Platinum Members. The logo can be used in promotional copy, for display on World Wide Web homepages, or wherever the member wants to show their affiliation with the IMS in print.
