Trinity s Christmas Carol Service. Trinity s annual Christmas Carol Service was held in the school hall on Monday 18 th December. It was a lovely evening and all the students and staff who took part were wonderful! The school choir sang two anthems O Little Town and Hark the Herald Angels Sing. Mr B Williams accompanied them on the guitar, which he also played for the hymns we all sang together. We were treated to a solo performance from Michael Zell-Smith and a group performance from the Ukulele Band who gave a brilliant rendition of We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Many thanks to all the students, Dr Lattimer and Mr Birks-Agnew who gave readings during the service. It was a fantastic way to come together as a community at the end of term. Music Practise Rooms. Students who wish to use the music practise rooms at break or lunch will need to pre-book with Mr Lawrie at the latest by the morning of the day they want the room. Students will write down in their planner which practise room they have been allocated and Mr Lawrie will sign. Students are responsible for keeping these rooms tidy. Thank you. Year 9 Student and Parent Information Evening 11 th January at 5.30pm. Lego League Club, Thursday 3.30pm- 4.30pm in L9. This club is run by two of our students, Carter Ord and Thomas Ayres (supported by Miss Bentley and Mr Burns). The club is great fun and gives students the opportunity to use LEGO Mindstorm to build robots to complete an obstacle map whilst working as a team. We will be entering The Lego League Competition next year (December 2018 approximately) which is very exciting! We have a group of students who attend the club but would very much like to welcome more students. Experience in LEGO Mindstorm is not necessary. For students who would like to be involved but do not want to work with the LEGO mindstorm directly, they can work on the project part of the competition. This is an environmental project which usually involves science to invent solutions to world issues. We are very much looking forward to welcoming more students to this exciting club and project. Articulation Competition (in association with the University of Leeds). This year s competition is now open and we would be delighted to receive some entries from Key Stage 4 students to submit for the competition. Please note students do not need to be studying Art to enter. The aim of the Discover ARTiculation Challenge is to engage Key Stage 4 students in expressing their opinions, thoughts and ideas about art with confidence, and to enjoy researching their chosen piece. Each student is invited to submit (via their school) a 2-3 minute film of themselves speaking about a work of art, an artefact or a piece of architecture of their choice. Judges from the University of Leeds and our partner galleries will view each film, looking at content, structure, delivery and the speaker s original approach and unique potential before choosing entrants to go forward as finalists. If you are interested please speak to Mrs Rayfield. The deadline for entries is Thursday 22 nd March. Previous finalists films can be viewed here, to give you a flavour of what we are looking for (please note these are the extended presentations that the Finalists delivered, not the initial 2-3 minute film): http://rochecourteducationaltrust.co.uk/discoverarticulation-2016-films/ Cookery Club will restart next Wednesday 10th January for Week 2 pupils. We will be making a delicious and healthy Thai Butternut Squash soup and the recipe will be circulated via tutor groups on Monday for those students who are in our Week 2 sessions. Week 1 students will make the same soup at our session on Wednesday 17th January. If any students are not sure which session they attend, please ask Mrs Newbold or Mr Collis, or drop me an email. If any parents would like the recipe before Monday so that they can buy ingredients, please do get in touch via email: bnewbold@trinitysevenoaks.com 3
