Newsletter October 2017 Carleton Community High School Headteachers Message I would like to thank parents and carers for working with us this term to support our improvements. We have recently experienced an Ofsted monitoring visit, which I am pleased to report was a positive experience. You will find a letter relating to this on the school website. Parents have expressed some concerns relating to school holidays for 2018/19. The PAT will follow the holidays pattern adopted by Wakefield schools for the coming academic year. In a drive towards further improvement we will be remodelling the school website. We recently asked Parents 'Forum members for suggestions relating to what you, as a group, would like to see. Please contact us if you have any suggestions relating to the school website, no matter how small. H Bolton Headteacher Open Evening On Thursday the 21st of September the school held its Open Evening for the new 2018 intake of students. The evening was an enjoyable and well attended one, and the displays and exhibitions by the various departments were excellent. If you were unable to attend and would like to see round the school, please contact the school using the details shown on the home page.

SHINE PROGRAMME 2017 This week saw the launch of this years SHINE programme. On the 16th October 2017 the SHINE programme manager Raj Mann visited the school to launch the programme to the SHINE cohorts at Carleton. SHINE is an initiative set up by the University of York, and aims to support pupils from schools across Yorkshire, the Humber and North East to reach their full potential. SHINE is open to pupils in Year 6 to 11 who have been identified by their school as being high achieving and from a group that is currently under-represented at university. It aims to inspire, motivate and encourage pupils to achieve academic success, and raise their aspirations towards higher education. The programme was launched to the whole of year 7 during an assembly. As a year group they were introduced to higher education and the range of benefits of going to university. The school will now select 30 year 7 students to be part of the SHINE programme whilst they are at Carleton.
