INTERNATIONAL MODEL UNITED NATIONS CONFERENCE PROSPECTUS

Foreword Dear Principals and Teachers, The 11 th Session of the International Model United Nations Conference (IMUNC) will be held from the 5 th to the 7 th of June 2018, at Anglo-Chinese School (Independent). Organised by the Young Diplomats Society, this annual event is a hallmark conference in Singapore s Model United Nations (MUN) calendar. It gives us great pleasure to invite your students for this year s session of IMUNC. Here at IMUNC, we aim to present every delegate with an experience that will enrich their understanding about global affairs and diplomacy. It simulates the challenges of international cooperation, thereby providing students with the platform to discuss pertinent global issues with like-minded peers. IMUNC is made up of councils that are tailored to a specific experience within the conference. Alongside the usual committees familiar to most MUN delegates, IMUNC's unique Joint Crisis Committee (JCC) experience will allow delegates to participate in a crisis simulation involving multiple stakeholders and developing scenarios. This document contains information about the conference in general and how it will enhance your students understanding of global affairs. You may contact us at secgen@imunc.org should you have any queries regarding the conference. On behalf of the IMUNC 2018 Secretariat, we sincerely hope that your students will be able to join us for this year s session of IMUNC! Best regards, Gabriel See Jiat Akshath Malik Deputy Secretary-General Secretary-General IMUNC 2018 IMUNC 2018

Background The International Model United Nations Conference (IMUNC) is a student-organised simulation of the United Nations (UN) that allows participants to fill the shoes of representatives of the member states of the UN. With adherence to UN procedures and MUN protocol, delegates will engage in fruitful debate and be able to glean useful insights into key global issues. IMUNC brings delegates together to tackle global issues in a welcoming environment and to negotiate disputes in a diplomatic and objective manner. It will also help delegates to develop and hone their public speaking, research and critical thinking skills, as students take on the mantle of delegates in the various UN committees. The committees for this year s session of IMUNC are: 1. General Assembly (GA) 2. World Health Organisation (WHO) 3. Disarmament and International Security Committee (DISEC) 4. Security Council (SC) 5. Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO) 6. Joint Crisis Committees (JCC) This wide variety of committees allows us to offer our delegates a range of incisive topics. We hope that these topics will be able to satiate their appetite for insightful discourse, while also being relevant to their academic disciplines in school. Whether a delegate is placed in the relatively large General Assembly (GA), the focused Security Council (SC), or the fast-paced and challenging Joint Crisis Committee (JCC), we assure you that all delegates will gain valuable experiences from the conference. At IMUNC, we hope to inject the learning environment with elements of fun and engagement as well. Hence, to spice up debate, the IMUNC political actors will continue to play a central role in the conference. Delegates hard work throughout the three days of the conference will culminate in International Night. Held on the last day of the conference it allows delegates to unwind, celebrate their achievements and look back on the memories and new friendships forged.

Our Promise Here at IMUNC, we always challenge ourselves to improve and to provide the best experience for delegates. We promise high standards of academic rigour, a competent chairing staff, and a seamless registration process. Each year, we grow from strength to strength. Our unique take on MUN has allowed IMUNC to receive stellar reviews from both teachers and students alike. We are furthermore pleased to announce that delegate fees for IMUNC has been reduced to a wallet friendly $70 per individual delegate. There will be no additional delegation fees. IMUNC is open to all secondary school students, aged 13 to 17, and international school students from grade 7 to 10. In addition, unique IMUNC merchandise including conference T-shirts will be available for sale during the 3-day conference itself. IMUNC & MES Staff 2016 ACS (Independent)

Delegates who are able to adapt to a myriad of diplomatic situations and show a willingness to seek a compromise if necessary are the delegates who are likely to succeed in IMUNC. The list of awards that delegates are eligible for at IMUNC are as follows: Delegate Awards (all committees including JCC): Best Delegate Outstanding Delegate Honourable Mention Verbal Commendation Best Policy Statement Delegation Awards: Best Delegation Outstanding Delegation Best Newcomer Delegation** The Secretariat reserves all rights to withhold awards, or make amendments to the awards policy without prior notice, especially in cases of misconduct.
