George Herbert Walker Bush Elementary School [304] Division 2 WHITE FP 2013-14 School Action Plan KEY ACTION PROGRESS REPORT KEY ACTION 1 Ensure staff and community members understand the district s core beliefs and how they support student achievement. School leaders will communicate district core beliefs through Beginning of Year professional development sessions in August 2013 and ongoing throughout the school year. 8/31/13 Staff will communicate the connections to the district core beliefs in all instructional conversations with colleagues, students and parents. August 2013- June 2014. School leaders will include the core beliefs in written and verbal communications addressed to staff, parents and community members from August 2013-June 2014. Core beliefs will be posted in every classroom effective August 26,2013 8/26/13 School leaders will communicate and model district core beliefs in all instructional meetings to include Vertical PLCs, campus PD, data analysis meetings, etc. throughout the year. ( August 2013- June 2014) Teachers will create two SMART goals that support the top priorities of our school based on the data, that are aligned to student achievment goals, support/tied toprofessional learning needs and that are aligned to the core beliefs by October 4, 2013. 9/27/13 School Leaders will engage staff in developing individual SMART Goals aligned to core beliefs and instructional priorities by October 4, 2013 School leaders will include the core beliefs in written and verbal communications addressed to parents and community members from August 2013-June 2014 at school and community events ( PTA meetings, Community Coffee events, Parent Meetings, etc) Team norms will be developed and vetted by the faculty and staff that outline expectations for every team member to be used during all campus meetings. (PLCs, verticals, grade level meetings, etc. 10/4/13 6/16/14

KEY ACTION 2 #REF! Teachers will use student achievement data (2013 achievement data, ACPs The Leadership team will create a Campus Instructional Calendar to assist common and Interim assessment data,) STAAR reporting category standards, Lesson Planning, Common Assessment scheduling, Analyzing Data, Student 9/6/13 Lead4ward Profiles, Blue prints and curriculum planning guides to create a Profiling, Response to Intervention (RTI) and tiered instruction/tutoring. (every prioritized standards list for each content area per six weeks. August 2013- June 4-6weeks) 2014. The Leadership team will provide staff development on RTI, Exceeds, SST, student profiling, Vocabulary Enrichment, STAAR updates and Math TEKS training. (August 2013 and as needed. Additional dates TBD) Teachers will plan, teach and submit weekly lesson plans aligned to the standards electronically every Friday by 8 a.m. The Leadership team will facilitate ongoing training for teachers to unpack the standards prior to the beginning of each six weeks with a focus on the readiness and supporting standards that are to be mastered/reviewed each grading period. ( every six weeks grading period from August 2013- June 2014.) Teachers will create and administer End of Six weeks common assessments and interim assessments aligned to the priority standards list and based on 2013 STAAR/ITBS/Logramos data. (August 2013- June 2014.) The Leadership team will guide and train teachers in aligning the curriculum utilizing the Two Bookends Framework and Purposeful Instructional Timeline. August 2013 and at PLC meetings once per six weeks Building leaders will conduct assessment/curriculum alignment training in August 2013 with reinforcement as needed.( i.e. Sept. 2013, Nov. 2013, Jan. 2014, March 2014) The Leadership team will facilitate data discussions utilizing common assessments once per six weeks October 2013, November 2013, December 2013,February 2014, April 2014, June 2014) The leadership team will facilitate training of all K-5 reading teachers in the use of Istation and Isip to support building reading comprehension and fluency in all tier 2 and tier 3 students The leadership team will coordinate the training of all 3-5 teachers in the use of eduphoria as an instructional tool used to facilitate the creation of meaningful common and interim assessments. September 2013- initial training with follow up sessions TBD) 10/31/13 3/31/14 Teachers will participate in ongoing PD that helps them understand the curriculum (what students are supposed to know and do) in their current and previous grade levels (vertical PLC s held monthly) and alignment of standards/student expectations. August 2013-June 2014. Teachers will facilitate After-School Targeted Instructional Rounds for at-risk students in Oct.-Nov. and Jan.-Apr. Teachers will implement Daily 5 in K-1 and Daily 3 in 2nd-5th grade to support small group skills-based instruction in reading as well as Daily 4 math small groups in K-5th to provide math small group skills-based instruction for ALL students. August 2013- June 2014. Teachers in grades 2-3 will engage in Reasoning Minds program weekly for the required number of minutes to provide targeted math intervention to tier 2 and 3 students. K-5 reading teachers will utilize I-Station for Beginnning, Middle and End of the year reading assessments as well as ISIP to provide targeted fluency and reading comprehension support for all tier 2 students monthly and all tier 3 students biweekly. 4/30/14

All 3-5 teachers will utilize the eduphoria system as a tool to create effective common and interim asessments based on the needs of data. September 2013- June 2014

KEY ACTION 3 Build and sustain strong Professional Learning communities focused on Improving the quality of instruction and increasing the level of rigor via the creation of strong lesson objectives, meaningful Demonstrations of Learning and through the use of Multiple Response Strategies. Provide refresher foundational and ongoing training for staff on Lesson Teachers will develop lesson plans that support MRS, DOLs and comprehension Objectives, MRS and DOL s with initial training occurring in Sept. 2013 and 1/31/14 strategies in Reading, Math and Science. Weekly. August 2013- June 2014. follow up sessions in Nov. 2013, and Jan. 2014. Guide and train teachers in aligning the curriculum utilizing the Two Bookends Framework August 2013 and PLC meetings. Periodic review and connections August 2013- June 2014. Teachers will create lesson plans that support the embedding of writing in all content areas. Weekly. August 2013- June 2014. Administration will provide meaningful instructional feedback to staff via SPOT observations aimed at identifying effective instruction in the classroom and specifically ensuring that meaningful learning activities are purposefully planned, the lesson objective is posted and DOLs are practiced consistently and with fidelity. (minimum of 6 observations per semester) Additional observations may be conducted for new and/or progressing teachers. Septembe 2013- June 2014. Teachers will implement the School-Wide Writing Plan and maintain a campuswide WOW Writing Wall with new samples posted every Six Weeks. September 2013, Nov. 2013, Dec. 2013, Feb. 2014, Apr. 2014, June 2014. ILT Team will conduct staff development on best practices for student-teacher engagement (including how to provide opportunities for individual students to demonstrate learning through a variety of response formats. August 2013 with follow up session dates TBD 10/31/13 Teachers will plan and implement daily instruction that reflects alignment of clear and engaging instructional objectives and rigorous Demonstrations of Learning. This will also be evident in weekly lesson plans that are aligned to the grade level/content area prioritized standards list Campus Instructional coach will provide on-going support to teachers on the MRS, brain- and research-based strategies and hands-on activities via Professional Development and in-class coaching and modeling. September 2013- June 2014. By the start of the 1st six weeks -August 26th an instructional calendar for the 2013-2014 school year will be disseminated to all staff members Teachers will select and use appropriate MRS' that support the lesson objectives and DOL s daily in small group and whole group settings. August 2013-June 2014. Teachers will incorporate more visuals in Math and Science through the use of technology and computer programs such as BrainPop and IXL. August 2013- June 2014. Teachers will engage students in project-based learning to increase level of rigor across all content areas.

Teachers will participate in Administrative, CILT, and District Professional Development and/or Region 10 trainings to improve student-teacher engagement (dates TBD) Teachers use results of assessments to evaluate and redesign teaching procedures and content every six weeks and after each interim assessment. KEY ACTION 4 Facilitate a welcoming school environment characterized by respect and support while ensuring high standards of performance for all staff and students Administration will facilitate monthly meetings where core beliefs are articulated, reinforced and tied to student achievement. August 2013-June 2014 Teachers will actively participate in all staff development / meetings, etc. with a focus on providing insightful feedback and meaningful suggestions. Administrators will incorporate a shared decision making process whereby decisions are made with the participation of teachers as appropriate.august 2013- June 2014. Adminstrators will support the creation of a cohesive community of learners characterized by compassion, mutual respect and success for all via surveys, and informal dialogue with staff through the Dialogue with Dash sessions..august 2013- June 2014. Explore avenues of community cooperation and professional collaboration via partnerships and participation in monthly PTA Board meetings, Quarterly SBDM meetings and monthly parent communication updates. August 2013- June 2014. Administrators will focus on consistent sense-making with staff to address concerns/misconceptions during all meetings via the use of ongoing staff surveys ( weekly August - September 2013; monthly Oct- Dec. 2013 and every six weeks Jan. 2014- June 2014) All staff members will collaboratively work to identify ways in which we can work to improve the climate and collegial community for adults Interactions amongst teachers and staff are caring, responsive, supportive, and respectful. staff will implement campus wide identified Student Culture programs (Class character Monday morning meetings P.R.I.D.E.; H.A.L.L.; CHAMPS and identified Teach Like a Champion moves) with fidelity at every grade level, and in every classroom, common area, etc. and provide incentives such as pencils, ribbons, certificates etc to recognize students academic and behavioral successes. staff will provide representation at monthly FSAC meetings to provide input as well as to address any operational questions, concerns, etc Adminstrators will lead professional development on creating a strong student culture via the use of Teach like a Champion as well as campus wide "guidelines for success" aimed at regulating and supporting a strong culture of respect and courteous behavior and provide incentives such as pencils, ribbons, certificates etc to recognize students academic and behavioral successes. staff members will collaborate via community partnerships as members of the PTA board, SBDM and monthly parent communication updates (newsletters, PTA meetings, etc) Campus leadership will facilitate monthly Faculty/Staff Advisory Committee (FSAC) meetings to address any operational concerns, questions, etc.
