The Charvil Piggott Primary School Published on: 19 September 2017 N o. 7 9 Charvil Piggott Primary School Park Lane, Charvil, RG10 9TR Telephone: 01189320033 www.piggottschool.org Email: charvil@piggottschool.org Twitter @CharvilPrimary Charvil Chatterings I hope you all managed to have an exciting and fun-filled holiday. Welcome back to a new school year - we are all looking forward to the learning we have planned for this year! A special welcome must go out to the new Foundation children who have settled in so quickly since the start of term and look set to have a great year with Mrs Lines and her team. We would also like to welcome some new members of staff: Mr Hillerton who joins us as deputy head, Mrs Young who joins us as teaching assistant in Year 1; Mrs Downes who will also be working as a teaching assistant in Year 1 and Coco the therapy dog who has had a very successful first week with us. Congratulations to Miss Taylor who got married over the summer and is now known as Mrs Cherrett. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible at the Harvest assembly on Tuesday 26th September at 2:30pm. We will again be collecting donations for Readifood. A list of the non-perishable items that they need has been sent out via SchoolComms. We would be grateful if any donations can be brought to the classrooms or left in reception from 25th to 29th September. Ms L May Deputy Headteacher Charvil Piggott Primary School Bumped Heads! We have introduced a new system to visually identify children who have had an injury to their heads at school. Children will now be issued with an orange wristband in addition to being given a yellow Head Injury slip to bring home, recording the details of the injury.

PAGE 3 CPSA update September 2017 Hello to all the new families who have now joined the school. We hope your children are settling in and making lots of new friends. The CPSA is a registered charity with the sole purpose of raising money for the school. We do this through as many fun ways as possible- cake sales, discos, fayres, fetes and social events to name but a few. Last year we raised an incredible 6,580. For such a small school we think that's pretty amazing! Next month on Friday 13th October we kick off our autumn events with our first ever Wine and Wisdom quiz night. We'll have a licensed bar and a general knowledge quiz. Tables will seat up to 8 and cost 40. A letter will go out via SchoolComms next week with more info. Please support us whenever and wherever you can as any help is always greatly appreciated. The CPSA committee: Holly, Debbie, Sarah, Cathy, Rachel and Lucy. Bookbags No more than ONE small keyring or small dangling item to be attached to bookbags please! Toys and keyrings hanging from bookbags make it very difficult to fit the bags into the trays. Letters, Forms and Reply Slips It is not always practical for the teaching staff to check all of the children s book bags every day, therefore if you have letters, forms or reply slips to hand in please give them directly to the class teacher on the door or put them in the tray in the school office. Thank you! Party Invitations We would not wish to see any child disappointed because a party invitation has been delayed or misplaced in school, therefore please can you arrange for any invitations to be handed out personally at drop off or collection time.

PAGE 4 School Meals Please remember to order lunches in advance. Late or missing orders can cause upset to the children and place a considerable strain on the system as the lunch service is a particularly busy time of day. Please ensure your child either has a home packed lunch, or that a lunch order is placed by 7:30am via www.aspens-services.co.uk/meals. If you miss the 7:30am deadline, please inform the school as soon as possible if your child needs a school lunch that day. For convenience, lunches may be ordered up to a term in advance. If your child is absent for any reason, please cancel their lunch order before 7:30am where possible, otherwise the school will be charged. Thank you for your support.

PAGE 5 Year 3 Success in the Young Writers' Crazy Creatures competition! Last term, every child in Year 3 was asked to write a mini saga as part of their homework tasks and Mr Hamilton sent off all the entries that were received. Out of the 40,000 entries that Young Writers received nationally, both Prayrit and Austin had their stories selected for publication. Well done to both children! If you are interested in purchasing a copy of the book, it is being published on the 30th November and is called Crazy Creatures - Southern Legends. We will be entering further Young Writers' competitions over the course of the year so watch this space! Thank you to all of the children that entered, Mr Hamilton KS2 Team Leader. PAGE 7 Gardening Club Potato Day Last Friday, members of the Charvil Lunchtime Gardening Club were invited to harvest the potatoes they had planted earlier in the year. They unearthed a wonderful selection of potato varieties including Pink Fir Apple, Allouette and the dark purple Salad Blue! Another very successful year of growing! There will be a Gardening Club Produce Sale and Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin after school on Friday 22nd Sept in the playground. Amongst other things you will find: pears, carrots, courgettes and purple potatoes. All proceeds will be put towards expenses for the club this year.
